Primary client goals: a sustainable, low-maintenance house, primarily single-floor living, orientation to views, natural light to interiors, maximization of individual privacy, creation of a formal outdoor space for gardening, incorporation of a workshop for cars, generous indoor and outdoor social space for guests and parties.
The home is be named for the numerous American Hollies scattered across the owner’s ten acres of high Piedmont land sloping dramatically to Lake Hartwell. Holly Hill, a retirement home for an architect and engineer whose hobbies are gardening and restoration of classic cars, is nestled into the site contours to maximize views of the lake and minimize impact on the site.
Holly Hill is comprised of three wings joined by transparent bridges: An architect's wing facing a master garden to the east, an engineer’s wing with workshop and a central activity, living, dining wing. Similar to a radiator, the design increases the amount of exterior wall maximizing opportunities for natural ventilation during temperate months.
Open and screened porches are strategically located to allow pleasant outdoor use at any time of day, particular season or, if necessary, insect challenge. Dramatic cantilevers allow the porches to project into the site’s beautiful mixed hardwood tree canopy.
Guests arrive by vehicle with glimpses of the house and grounds through penetrations in the concrete wall enclosing the formal garden. Once parked they are led through the garden composed of pavers, a fountain, benches, sculpture and plants. Views of the lake can be seen through and below the bridges.

Symphony on the Park: The Story of a New York Residence
This home is more than a residence; it is a symphony of New York living. With Central Park stretching out just beyond the windows and the hum of the city’s culture and music all around, the interiors echo the rhythm of the city itself: bold, modern, sophisticated.
The design captures the duality of Manhattan, energy and serenity, movement and stillness. Rich textures and carefully placed color notes punctuate a palette of refined neutrals, like instruments in an orchestra. Each space is composed with intention: sleek lines balanced by sensual curves, modern forms softened by warm materials, light and shadow choreographed across the rooms.
Here, music is not only heard, but felt in the design’s cadence. Central Park is not only seen, but lives within the atmosphere of the interiors. The result is a space that is sexy, timeless, and deeply New York, a home where culture, design, and lifestyle converge in perfect harmony.

Upper Valley Estate Curb Appeal – El Paso, Texas
This curb appeal transformation was conceived as a deliberate sequence—an arrival experience where architecture, landscape, and lighting work together as one. Every element was designed to honor the home’s stone construction, turreted forms, and Old World character while responding precisely to the Upper Valley climate and lifestyle.
By day, the experience is grounded and composed. Brick-edged concrete drives establish order and permanence, guiding movement through the property with clarity and intention. Natural stone walls and columns anchor the architecture, while layered gravel beds, drought-tolerant plantings, and manicured turf soften transitions and connect the home to its desert setting. Mature trees were preserved and carefully integrated, providing scale, shade, and a sense of continuity.
As afternoon shifts toward sunset, the materials begin to speak differently. Stone warms, textures deepen, and sightlines subtly draw the eye toward the front entry. The landscape narrows the focus, creating a moment of pause before arrival—calm, quiet, and refined.
At night, the design reveals its final layer. Low-voltage lighting is integrated with precision, washing stone surfaces, tracing architectural curves, and uplighting specimen trees to create depth without glare. The drive, walkways, and entry feel safe, legible, and inviting, while the home itself glows with a restrained elegance. Coming home after dark feels intentional—protected, welcoming, and unmistakably yours.
What was created is more than curb appeal. It is a cohesive design-build solution where nothing is ornamental without purpose and nothing is built without intention. A daily experience of arrival that reflects craftsmanship, care, and the enduring character of the Upper Valley.

The design approach focused on updating the kitchen while honoring the home’s original character. Rather than introducing a completely different aesthetic, the goal was to reinterpret the existing warmth, texture, and craftsmanship in a fresh way. A key decision was selecting cabinetry that could reflect the richness of the original bamboo. This led to a custom walnut finish that felt authentic to the home yet elevated in its execution. Eclectic materials were thoughtfully layered to create interest and personality, but carefully balanced so the space felt curated, cohesive, and enduring.
The updated design includes slate flooring, Plato Cabinetry in a custom walnut finish, and 3 cm soapstone countertops that add depth and natural character. High-performance Sub-Zero and Wolf appliances—including a Sub-Zero refrigerator and beverage center, along with a Wolf speed oven and hood—bring modern functionality to this artfully composed space.

Kaleidosculpture is the idea of a kaleidoscope executed in 3 dimensions. Instead of a geometry created by mirrors in 2 dimensions, we present a geometry of replication in 3 dimensions; and just as the movement of a kaleidoscope’s mirrors create infinite variations of shape and color, Kaleidosculpture shows the infinite possibilities of rotating a variety of brightly colored shapes through space. The originality of this concept is even further emphasized by the unique juxtaposition of materials: steel and ceramics, unusual partners in art. This courtyard installation was to be viewed both from the inside of the house and from the pool and hot tub. It evoked its beach city location in the sail-like shapes of the ceramic tiles. By locating it in a corner, we were able to use the movement of the sun to create a secondary art form composed of shadow that tracked the original across the walls. At night, it was dramatically illuminated from below to throw other striking shadows. To progress from one side of the courtyard, through its center, to the other side was to begin with a sparse sprinkling of color, move into a rich and dazzling display of colors and forms, and then to arrive at a mirror image of the starting point. After long days filled with noise, motion, and the weight of the world, our clients envisioned a space that felt like an exhale — a serene escape where time slows and calmness takes hold.
We grounded the room with earthy Riad tiles, their warmth anchoring the space. A Taj Mahal quartzite bench settles into the design with quiet elegance, its delicate veining adding a soft, graceful touch. Together, they compose a tranquil rhythm, turning this bathroom into a sanctuary carved for peace.
