Old World European, Country Cottage. Three separate cottages make up this secluded village over looking a private lake in an old German, English, and French stone villa style. Hand scraped arched trusses, wide width random walnut plank flooring, distressed dark stained raised panel cabinetry, and hand carved moldings make these traditional buildings look like they have been here for 100s of years. Newly built of old materials, and old traditional building methods, including arched planked doors, leathered stone counter tops, stone entry, wrought iron straps, and metal beam straps. The Lake House is the first, a Tudor style cottage with a slate roof, 2 bedrooms, view filled living room open to the dining area, all overlooking the lake. European fantasy cottage with hand hewn beams, exposed curved trusses and scraped walnut floors, carved moldings, steel straps, wrought iron lighting and real stone arched fireplace. Dining area next to kitchen in the English Country Cottage. Handscraped walnut random width floors, curved exposed trusses. Wrought iron hardware. The Carriage Home fills in when the kids come home to visit, and holds the garage for the whole idyllic village. This cottage features 2 bedrooms with on suite baths, a large open kitchen, and an warm, comfortable and inviting great room. All overlooking the lake. The third structure is the Wheel House, running a real wonderful old water wheel, and features a private suite upstairs, and a work space downstairs. All homes are slightly different in materials and color, including a few with old terra cotta roofing. Project Location: Ojai, California. Project designed by Maraya Interior Design. This early-70’s floating home was purchased by a recently returned Santa Barbara native looking for a home that would mesh with his active and creative lifestyle. However, weakened by over 50 years of exposure to a marine environment, the craft needed significant updates to its flotation system, structural framing, walls, and interior.
Inspired by the dwellings of coastal Swedish towns, Archipelago Workshop provided iterative design concepts, structural engineering guidance, technical drawings, and no small amount of moral support as the owner and his father addressed 40-plus years of deferred maintenance.
The fully redesigned two-story dwelling is highly crafted using a ship builder’s mindset. At the center core of the plan’s pinwheel design, a stairwell creates vertical circulation and delineates the long axes that define the highly rectilinear design. Mindfully placed windows enhance both privacy and views and capitalize on prevailing winds. With a first-floor design studio that also houses his surfboard collection, it is now the perfect live-work space for its adventuresome owner and guests.

We relocated the kitchen to create a needed additional bedroom on the first floor. The engendered trust enabled our team to work with the client on all aspects of his home.

The Slow Spin reflects our belief that every space — no matter how utilitarian — deserves intention and a sense of intrigue. Our concept was rooted in contrast: concealment and reveal, historic architecture layered with modern restraint, and function elevated through materiality. The Calacatta Oyster marble was our jumping-off point—we sourced the stone first and let its movement, warmth, and quiet drama set the tone for everything that followed. Staying true to our intuitive approach and refined aesthetic, we were inspired to reframe daily rituals as moments of pause, designing a room that feels thoughtfully explored, curated, and discovered rather than purely installed. Meticulous detailing, disciplined material choices, and close collaboration with our partners allowed us to create a space that is highly functional and emotionally resonant—proving that even the most practical rooms can carry beauty, depth, and personality.

Transitional kitchen in our Denver remodel: a long quartz island with seating anchors the open space, framed by two-tone cabinetry in white oak and deep green with brass fixtures and dome pendants. Design + build by The Curated Room.

A bright, airy entry sets the tone with soaring ceilings, clean lines, and a curated mix of contemporary art. A sculptural Sonneman chandelier and streamlined Liaigre console create a striking first impression, while the long gallery-style corridor draws the eye through the home with effortless elegance.

- Powder Room: Half wall crown molding with black tile design and fixtures.
*Exterior & Landscape*
The planning process also emphasized low-maintenance landscape design, using easy-care plants that enhance the home’s natural feel without demanding constant upkeep. The home is also equipped with a dedicated EV charging station and solar panels, supporting energy efficiency and modern sustainable living.

The inspiration for this complete basement renovation was mid-century modern. Before we began, the basement was an open, empty shell with concrete floors and exposed ceiling.
The layout was extremely important to work with the existing structural columns, HVAC locations and a staircase in the center of the space that acts as a divider between the living space and a home office. A large kitchen with walnut panels reminiscent of the 60’s has plenty of storage and a generous island is perfect for meal prep and entertaining. We opted for no uppers as it would have enclosed the space and feel to dark. Instead, we installed a glossy grid backsplash that helps reflect light throughout the basement making it bright and airy.
We went dark in the foyer with navy blue and pink accents for a bold first impression that offsets what is happening elsewhere. The washroom maximizes storage with built ins and a large shower. Tropical wallpaper brings natural elements in.
White walls keep the space from feeling too dark and dim in the open concept living, dining and kitchen and allows every piece of furniture against it to stand out.

ISPiRI’s vision for the kitchen from the beginning was to open up the spaces and take advantage of the beautiful view from the back windows.
.
The homeowners were hesitant at first to move the kitchen into what was the original formal dining room and living room. After seeing the dramatic concept of the move, the homeowners agreed to remove the walls separating the dining room and living room areas from the kitchen.
.
The result is stunning with the kitchen running from the front to the back of the home with a large 10' island and a new wet bar for entertaining.

We renovated the first floor to allow this family to have more room to grow and enjoy their home.
Through a rear addition, we re-worked the floor plan and created a more open concept space with a large kitchen, and family room. We were also able to add a new powder room to this level, as well as a bar area for entertaining family and friends. The bar area features a unique backsplash tile and the powder room and the kitchen eating area features fun wallpaper.
