Custom cabinetry to add storage to a bedroom that has a small closet
About the project:
Originally a single family home, this four unit apartment building was broken up in a way that each apartment has a different layout. The challenge for Piperbear Designs was how to reimagine each space to conform with the needs of the modern tenant – while also adding design flourishes that will make each unit feel special.
Located on historic West Grace in Richmond, Virginia, the property is surrounded by a mix of attractive single family homes and small historic apartment buildings. Walking distance to the Science Museum of Virginia, Monument Ave, many hip restaurants, this block is a sought after location for young professionals moving to Richmond.
Piperbear wanted to restore this building in a manner that respects the history of the area while also adding a design aesthetic that is in touch with the change happening in Richmond.

This is a rare opportunity for a legal non-conforming duplex that offers two homes on one lot offering a multitude of options in Victoria's Oaklands neighbourhood. Two well-kept cheerful cottages sit side by side on an amazing private & sunny garden lot with the rear yards separated by a friendly wooden fence. Each cottage is a completely self-contained one-level home, newly decorated & freshly painted, with 2 bedrooms and den (or 3rd Bedroom), 4-piece bathroom, in house laundry, fireplace, separate hydro/water meters & sewer lines. The lot is high off the street with each home having its own steps and path through the original stone wall. Both have recent damp proofing in the crawl spaces & extra insulation in the attic. With almost identical floor plans, one unit is renting for $2200 plus hydro (market rent $2200-$2600) & the other is vacant. This kitchen renovation involved a complete overhaul of the look and feel of the existing kitchen, and transforming it into a family-friendly kitchen that conformed to the client's aesthetic: modern, rustic and eclectic. The adjacent mudroom, laundry room and powder room were surveyed to see how much flexibility there was to enhance the kitchen layout while improving upon all of the spaces. The homeowners felt strongly about light painted cabinets and let us guide the rest of the design.
The kitchen features separate and spacious work zones for the cook, bar area, clean-up crew, and diners. Materials with a rustic and industrial feel were selected. The white cabinets have a grey striated glaze which blends well with the heavily textured grey island cabinets and exposed reclaimed wood beams. The Neolith countertop has a unique metallic quality that compliments the hardware and zinc accents on the floating shelves and custom kitchen table. Finishing touches include the custom reclaimed wood pocket doors, a custom steel counter support, and iron light fixtures.

The low budget, family house project posed a challenge of conveniently arranging multiple rooms in small area. Pre-reconstruction edges of the walls were toned down, in order to conform to the new, minimalistic aesthetics and letting two colors prevail in the interior was also the part of the concept.
The white walls and the large mirrors make the space appear sizable. The wooden components of the interior bring an unifying ambience into play. The technical lighting illuminates the rooms without distracting the eye.

Cost-effectively update the look of your kitchen by refinishing your cabinets with Spray-Net!
To provide you with superior durability and a flawless finish, we formulated a polyurethane paint for kitchen cabinets that combines the best of all worlds: the adhesion of a soft alkyd, the flexibility of a urethane and the hardness of a polyurethane. This makes our coating flexible enough to avoid cracking, hard enough to avoid chipping, smooth enough to easily wash and tough enough to block stains. All this in a low-toxicity, water-based formulation that conforms to Kitchen Cabinet Manufacturers’ Association (KMCA) standards.
Our paint for kitchen cabinets is specially formulated for: laminate, melamine, thermofoil/plastic and wood kitchen cabinets.

O artista plástico Ronaldo Cazuza fez a arte a mão-livre.

In a walkable neighborhood near the center of town, a historic masonry and timber frame structure has a new future as a residence containing 10 apartments. The property was originally built by the Elks in 1913 and later became a Masonic lodge, which included a bar, kitchen, meeting rooms and office space.
The new apartments range from studios, 1-bedroom, and 2-bedroom units from 500 square feet to 1000 square feet. In conformance with the municipality’s 20% affordable housing requirements, two of the apartment units will be priced as affordable housing.
The top floor of the existing building is double-height, allowing for mezzanine space. Apartments are designed as loft style, with modern detailing; a “SoHo aesthetic.” The character of the building is being restored and preserved, and where possible original brick, stucco, and wood are exposed and refinished. The exterior gains a new stair and elevator tower addition, along with new window openings where necessary.
A new plaque designed for the building describes its historic roots in Princeton. With the inclusion of a green roof, LEED for Homes certification is being pursued for the project.

In response to their aspirations, we crafted a residence that defies conformity—a departure from cookie-cutter designs while seamlessly blending into its surroundings. Our Dahl House features a distinctive slanted profile, subtly angled towards the sunlit south, optimizing natural light and solar panel efficiency.
With sustainability as our guiding principle, every facet of the design prioritizes eco-consciousness. From superior insulation surpassing code requirements to energy-efficient LED lighting and solar-ready infrastructure, the home epitomizes environmental stewardship without compromising on style or comfort.
Functionality meets charm in the heart of the home—the integrated kitchen, living, and dining areas—which serve as focal points for family interaction and engagement. Additionally, special provisions such as a dedicated study area for children and a whimsical loft enhance the home's livability and charm.
In essence, our design isn't just a structure—it's a canvas for vibrant family life, where innovation meets intimacy, and sustainability coexists with style. Welcome to our Dahl House—a haven designed for interactive living, where every detail fosters connection and coziness.
