2011 NARI CAPITAL COTY MERIT AWARD WINNER; 2012 QUALIFIED REMODELER MASTER DESIGN AWARD
This 1950 brick colonial featured a floor plan typical of homes of that era--small boxy rooms, each separated by four walls. The young couple who owned the home loved its potential, but needed more space.
The main goal of this project was to create a seamless and open floor plan on the first floor, adding a family room and enlarging the kitchen. A master bedroom and bathroom suite were planned to make better use of the second level. To accomplish these goals, a 20’ x 20’ two-story addition was designed by Michael Nash Design, Build & Homes.
The new expanded kitchen and family room features limestone floors, a new gas fireplace surrounded with built-ins and glass stone hearth to complement the kitchen countertops and backsplash. Use of espresso colored cabinetry topped by a light granite countertop with brown veins running through it is one of the decorative touches that make this project stunning. The large middle island which consists of a second sink, wine chiller and seating space is another bonus point of this kitchen. Commercial quality appliances assure gourmet cooking at its finest. Large first floor windows face the home’s new flagstone patio, which can be accessed via a French door.
The second floor consists of the master bedroom with a sitting area , French doors leading into a French balcony facing back yard, double-sided stoned gas fireplace (between the bedroom and master bath) and a cathedral ceiling. The master bathroom features a large steam shower, body sprays and rain shower, a large double person Jacuzzi, tumbled marble floor and wall tiles with accents. The use of wide plank exotic tiger wood has beautified this master suite.
Keeping the homeowners’ contemporary style in mind and achieving their wishes has transformed this old 1950 colonial into a fully functional 21st Century dream home.

The definitive idea behind this project was to create a modest country house that was traditional in outward appearance yet minimalist from within. The harmonious scale, thick wall massing and the attention to architectural detail are reminiscent of the enduring quality and beauty of European homes built long ago.
It features a custom-built Spanish Colonial- inspired house that is characterized by an L-plan, low-pitched mission clay tile roofs, exposed wood rafter tails, broad expanses of thick white-washed stucco walls with recessed-in French patio doors and casement windows; and surrounded by native California oaks, boxwood hedges, French lavender, Mexican bush sage, and rosemary that are often found in Mediterranean landscapes.
An emphasis was placed on visually experiencing the weight of the exposed ceiling timbers and the thick wall massing between the light, airy spaces. A simple and elegant material palette, which consists of white plastered walls, timber beams, wide plank white oak floors, and pale travertine used for wash basins and bath tile flooring, was chosen to articulate the fine balance between clean, simple lines and Old World touches.

A FITTING THAT IS LIKE PRECISION-WORKED CRYSTAL. | Supernova is a fitting of high sculptural quality, with numerous facets and polygonal surfaces, making it reminiscent of precision-worked crystal. The name of the fitting invokes a supernova, the sudden, extreme burst of brilliance that emanates from an exploding star. In Supernova, this radiance manifests itself in diverse, consistently new reflections of its surroundings. It is as if the fitting is reflecting the idea of the architecture as much as the architecture is reflecting the idea of the fitting. The abundance of facets in the fitting is also conveyed to the individual bathroom architecture. It is as if the fitting were designed for an exposed bathroom. | Available at www.shopstudio41.com

This amazing Pondless Water Feature was built and designed by Platinum Ponds & Landscaping in 2017 near Grand Rapids, MI. A total of 3 pumps pumping over 20,000 gallons per hour were needed to power this large water feature, which consisted of large 3'+ size boulders. The Water Feature had over 6' of total head height and a pondless basin holding over 850 gallons of water to pump through the system. 30 Aquatic Plants were installed to promote amazing water quality along with an algae control system. Finally, mulch and accent boulders were added around the water feature. Due to the time of year in Michigan the homeowner elected to wait until the following Spring to install plant material around the borders of the water feature

A Piece of Carpet is a mature carpet with a playful charm, made of 100% wool felt. The shape and size are adaptable to the interior, which gives you the possibility to play around with your interior settings. With this carpet you also create an exciting, safe and soft playground for kids, without having to do concessions in the aesthetics of your interior design.
The puzzle tiles are made in three layers, carefully stitched together by hand in the Netherlands. The top layer is made of a carpet quality wool felt with a Scotchgard treatment which makes it dirt and water repellent. Wool felt also absorbs sound and heat. The bottom layer is made of a foam with anti-slip coating, which keeps the carpet in place and prevents you from slipping. Through this, a comfortable carpet is created.
Each set consists of a series of puzzle tiles in 5 different shapes. For example it is possible to make a square carpet, a rectangular carpet, a cornered layout, or you can leave the sides ‘unfinished’. The possibilities are endless!

Hawthorne real thin stone veneer from the Quarry Mill adds character to the front entrance of this beautiful residential home. Hawthorne is a low height ledgestone real stone veneer in semi-consistent shades of tan. The natural sandstone pieces come from the thinner layers of the quarry. Hawthorne’s pieces have relatively straight and parallel tops and bottoms from the clean slabs cut into the thin veneer. The stone can be installed with or without a mortar joint between the individual pieces. If you are planning to drystack the stone, both the mason’s cost to do the installation as well as the waste factor will increase considerably. Hawthorne is a premium quality thin stone veneer imported from overseas. It is in stock and ready to ship.

This “before” Manhattan kitchen was featured in Traditional Home in 1992 having traditional cherry cabinets and polished-brass hardware. Twenty-three years later it was featured again, having been redesigned by Bilotta designer RitaLuisa Garces, this time as a less ornate space, a more streamlined, cleaner look that is popular today. Rita reconfigured the kitchen using the same space but with a more practical flow and added light. The new “after” kitchen features recessed panel Rutt Handcrafted Cabinetry in a blue finish with materials that have reflective qualities. These materials consist of glass mosaic tile backsplash from Artistic Tile, a Bridge faucet in polished nickel from Barber Wilsons & Co, Franke stainless-steel sink, porcelain floor tiles with a bronze glaze and polished blue granite countertops. When the kitchen was reconfigured they moved the eating niche and added a tinted mirror backsplash to reflect the light as well. Our clients were looking to build an income property for use as a short term rental in their backyard. In order to keep maximize the available space on a limited footprint, we designed the ADU around a spiral staircase leading up to the loft bedroom. The vaulted ceiling gives the small space a much larger appearance.
To provide privacy for both the renters and the homeowners, the ADU was set apart from the house with its own private entrance.
The design of the ADU was done with local Pacific Northwest aesthetics in mind, including green exterior paint and a mixture of woodgrain and metal fixtures for the interior.
Durability was a major concern for the homeowners. In order to minimize potential damages from renters, we selected quartz countertops and waterproof flooring. We also used a high-quality interior paint that will stand the test of time and clean easily.
The end result of this project was exactly what the client was hoping for, and the rental consistently receives 5-star reviews on Airbnb.

Danish Modern is one of the several types of Modern design style. Popularized in Denmark from the 1940s-1970s, Danish modern furniture design was a collaboration between the principles of modern architecture and the high-quality cabinetmaking for which the Danes were known. Simple, elegant, airy, and featuring clean, sweeping lines, the furnishings are inherently warm and beautiful.
This open dining room is a collection of vintage Danish modern furniture dating from the early 1970s. The authentic pieces were located at different auction houses and specialty consigners around the country to create a cohesive look the homeowners were seeking.
The solid teak sideboard features a lighted upper display cabinet (removable) showcasing the homeowners’ collection of art including Nambé, Murano, Vietri sul Mare, and Blenko.
The lower cabinet consists of two sliding doors on either end offering plentiful storage. In between are a bank of five felt-lined drawers for items such as silverware, trays and linens.
With graceful rounded corners and rich, warm teak woodgrain, the dining room table is a perfect match to the sideboard. Two leaves tightly drop in and enable expansion with seating capacity for 14 people.
Mixing up dining chairs adds interest and variety. The curvaceous and timeless Arne Jacobsen (the Danish designer) Series 7 chair in black is the perfect pairing for this dynamic design.
Crowning the space is the airy, translucent classic Nelson bubble lamp, keeping in line with the Modernist theme.
