A DEANE client returned in 2022 for an update to their kitchen remodel project from 2006. This incredible transformation was driven by the desire to create a glamorous space for both cooking and entertaining. The frameless cabinetry with a mitered door and satin brass hardware is deliberately understated to highlight the marble. Dramatic and bold, the continuous, book-matched Panda White marble was used throughout the open footprint, including the fireplace surround, to give the space a cohesive feel. The custom, tapered hood, also covered in Panda White is a commanding centerpiece. The expansive space allowed for two waterfall-edge islands with mitered countertops - one for cooking with black-stained oak cabinets for storage and a prep sink, and the second to seat 6 for dining, which replaced the original informal eating area. A tray ceiling with wallpaper detailing elegantly frames both together.
No detail was overlooked in the design process. A coffee station with retractable doors and beverage drawers was situated to graciously welcome guests. A Wolf 60” range, walnut interiors, customized drawer inserts, unlacquered brass finishes and a Galley Workstation elevate this kitchen into a truly sophisticated space.

Reclaimed wood box beams cover the full ceiling of this bright Scandinavian open concept kitchen in a dramatic coffered grid, their warm reddish-brown tones and aged patina creating a bold contrast against an all-white interior of white cabinetry, marble island, marble backsplash, and dark hardwood flooring. The beams run continuously from the kitchen through to the living room beyond, giving the entire open floor plan a cohesive architectural backbone rooted in the antique charm of old growth hardwood. Sourced from 19th and early 20th century structures and prepared through our process of denailing, kiln drying, and precision milling, every Manomin box beam brings genuine historic character into your home.
Whether you are a homebuilder, a home remodeling contractor, or a homeowner looking to add reclaimed wood box beams to a Scandinavian or contemporary open concept kitchen, Manomin Resawn Timbers has been helping people discover the antique charm of reclaimed wood since 2002. We ship nationwide and are happy to help you find the right pieces from anywhere in the country. Visit our showroom in Hugo, MN or reach out to us with a call or a message to get started.

A steeply sloping site posed considerable challenges for Morpurgo Architects’ expansion and renovation of this front to back split-level house. To provide a gradual transition for the family from their home, situated on a high plateau, to the brook and pool below, we designed numerous patios and decks at multiple levels.
The house features large, divided-light arched windows. Throughout the first floor, we created lit vaulted ceilings that give the living areas a spacious, open quality. A wide central hallway forms the spine of the house, opening onto a dining room, with columns that support a curved yoke-shaped header that is repeated in the entrance gate on the grounds.
Renovations were scheduled in four precisely planned construction phases that allowed the family to continue living in the house during the building process.
This elegant, yet informal home, in its serene setting, is the product of Morpurgo Architects’ seamless union of the house and the site.

The site descends from the street and is privileged with dynamic natural views toward a creek below and beyond. To incorporate the existing landscape into the daily life of the residents, the house steps down to the natural topography. A continuous and jogging retaining wall from outside to inside embeds the structure below natural grade at the front with flush transitions at its rear facade. All indoor spaces open up to a central courtyard which terraces down to the tree canopy, creating a readily visible and occupiable transitional space between man-made and nature.
The courtyard scheme is simplified by two wings representing common and private zones - connected by a glass dining “bridge." This transparent volume also visually connects the front yard to the courtyard, clearing for the prospect view, while maintaining a subdued street presence. The staircase acts as a vertical “knuckle,” mediating shifting wing angles while contrasting the predominant horizontality of the house.
Crips materiality and detailing, deep roof overhangs, and the one-and-half story wall at the rear further enhance the connection between outdoors and indoors, providing nuanced natural lighting throughout and a meaningful framed procession through the property.

his brand-new custom home in Granada Hills, CA was brought to life from the ground up by Dream Construction Inc., with our team overseeing the complete construction process from the initial stages through final finishes.
Designed with a sophisticated modern aesthetic, the home features striking architectural lines, a clean stucco exterior, dramatic black-framed windows and doors, custom exterior lighting, and beautifully integrated hardscape and landscaping. The impressive covered entry creates a warm and inviting arrival while giving the home a distinctive contemporary presence.
Inside, the residence continues the modern design with open, light-filled living spaces, high ceilings, custom cabinetry, premium flooring, contemporary bathrooms, designer lighting, and carefully selected finishes throughout. Large windows and doors bring natural light deep into the home while creating a seamless connection between the interior and exterior spaces.
Beyond the main residence, the existing garage was completely converted into an ADU, adding a separate and highly functional living space to the property. The ADU was designed to complement the main home while maximizing the property's usable square footage and long-term versatility.
Our scope included the complete construction process, including site preparation, foundation and framing, structural work, roofing, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, insulation, drywall, interior and exterior finishes, cabinetry, flooring, tile, fixtures, hardscape, landscaping, and the garage-to-ADU conversion.
The finished property showcases what thoughtful custom construction can achieve: bold modern architecture, warm and comfortable interiors, beautiful craftsmanship, and efficient use of the entire property. From the illuminated exterior at sunset to the smallest interior details, every element was designed and built to create a polished, cohesive home.

The story of Tide’s Ledge began much differently than it ended. It was originally conceived as a transitional home, but one that was distinctly more on the traditional side, so as not to “stick out too much” in its classic coastal Maine environment. As the design team continued to meet with the clients about their desires and the direction of the project, it became apparent that there was a disconnect between the objective and the inspiration imagery they were drawn to. The design was well underway, the foundation going in the ground, when the lead Architect stopped the process short to address the conflicting visions. He pointed out that the clients did in fact have a keen eye for contemporary design and were clearly attracted to something with more of an edge. After mulling it over for a few days, the clients decided to take a leap of faith and truly build the house of their dreams. They then gave Knickerbocker permission to develop a fresh concept, and soon a new home emerged.

A new homeowner of a beautiful Mediterranean style home requested a pool combining a variety of outdoor living amenities. The request included an infinity edge pool and spa that would accommodate an area for a volleyball net, bar top, and fire pit all within a natural environment; and of course, a budget. Needless to say, it was a challenging process combining all of these requests and blending them into a space dedicated for a pool that led us to the aquatic environment seen in these images. The project resulted in building a large free form pool with strong classical lines, shapes, and symmetry. The shape allows the pool to blend within the natural environment as well as continue to be a strong architectural element that compliments the beauty of the Mediterranean home. The infinity edge spa includes 14 waterway jets with the nearest possible equipment location that is more than 100’ away. The pool was not only an aesthetic design challenge but also required mutual respect for the project’s complex hydraulic and construction details. In the process of construction, the homeowner decided the infinity edge basin should also be designed to function as a secondary spa. This secondary basin/spa can be used in large entertaining situations or if the family wants to take advantage of the fire pit while soaking. The glass tile was selected to magnify the beauty of the infinity edge spa and the overall design. The vessel was carefully cleaned and sealed to minimize efflorescence and staining that typically occurs over time. The decorative pedestals and urns seen around the pool edge are equipped for irrigation and drainage to allow for ease of year around maintenance and combine the elegance of the landscape with the hardscape. This Mediterranean inspired project blends some of the best materials available today and is the focal point of the home owner’s new property.

Mevrou, erected in 1922, was a Landmark Structure which over time had seen many additions and renovations. The design process began by peeling away the layers and uncovering the original footprint. The small front staircase located to the north and right off the main entry became an interesting challenge to work through as its location, while original to the structure, was not ideal. The original 1922 structure dictated the scale of the addition, telling the story from the outside and guiding the interior flow. Beginning from the west living room wall, the new design created the dining, kitchen, and family room areas that more naturally lead into the rest of the home. The composition resulted in Mevrou being composed of two volumes: a strong, single form of concrete plastered walls remaining from the original more formal structure, contrasted by the exposed brick form of the new addition. The contrast of original and new structure continues to tell Mevrou’s long story on the interiors as well, displaying beautiful exposed brick and plank boards. The new fireplace mantel was designed based on the original doors Mevrou once sported in 1922 paying homage to the details lost during its lifetime of renovations.

We all have that "stuff" that piles by the door. Give it a place to live so that your entry/exit is organized, attractive, and functional. Room Redefined decluttered the space, and did a lot of space planning to make sure it had good flow for all of the functions. Intentional use of organization products, including shelf-dividers, shelf-labels, colorful bins, wall organization to take advantage of vertical space, and cubby storage maximize functionality. We supported the process through removal of unwanted items, product sourcing and installation. We continue to work with this family to maintain the space as their needs change over time. Working with a professional organizer for your home organization projects ensures a great outcome and removes the stress!
