Description
Lodhra Modern Builders completed this residential construction project with a focus on quality, precision, and long term value. From planning and site preparation through construction and final finishing, every phase was carefully managed to ensure a smooth and efficient building process.
The home was constructed to meet modern living standards while maintaining structural integrity and lasting durability. Attention to detail, quality craftsmanship, and effective project coordination played a key role in delivering a residence that is both functional and visually appealing.
This project reflects our commitment to building homes that combine comfort, reliability, and exceptional construction quality, resulting in a space designed to serve generations to come

Homeowner Rick Whitworth knew he wanted to settle near Puget Sound after becoming enamored with the area during his Naval career, ultimately building his ultra-contemporary home on Marrowstone Island.
The maritime pasts of both the homeowner and the builder Peter Bates of Good Homes Construction influenced the final design and material choices of the Pacific Northwest home. Bates sourced reclaimed wood from a shipyard for the partition in the kitchen. Straight-grain Douglas Fir flooring runs up to the Marvin Ultimate wood windows and up the walls, encasing the interior in warmth.
“The Marvin Ultimate line was great because they are so customizable, and you can talk to the factory, and you can talk to the reps, and they'll work with you to say, ‘What are you trying to accomplish? How can we do this? Is that window too big? Will this work this way?’ That was a real appeal of the Ultimate line is how customizable it is,” said Bates.

The room was dark brown, which was fine for a while ... but for an entranceway and a room without windows, dark was not an appropriate long term choice. There was a feng shui request in this re-decorating project, earth tones were not welcome in this area of the home, black, white, metal and water were preferable colors/elements. The walls are 2 layers of metallic paint, the undercoat is a silver, the top coat is a gunmetal mixed with the silver to create an uneven tone. A wide wallpaper paste brush was used to create a vertical linear pattern. The Larson Juhl gold leaf framed mirror is covered in adhesive car vinyl. The Ikea unit is enveloped in an adhesive mural, printed by muralsyourway.com, the artist is David Bromstad. The chair seats were recovered in a silver vinyl fabric. The rug is from overstock.com. The capiz chandelier is from West Elm. The table base is an Ikea take on the Eero Saarinen tulip table. In the "before" room, there were glass tables cluttered with everyday items and "to do" piles of paper. The goal was to have storage in this room to hide the clutter. There was not an outlet on the wall where the Ikea unit sits, and there was not a budget to have the prewar wall fitted with electricity, so an extension cord crosses the room under a grey cord concealer.

YOUNG ARCHITECTS STUDIO COMPETITION
PROJECT: Clean Water Workshop
PARTICIPANT: Robert Tuñón and Keith Labutta
DESCRIPTION: Pittsburgh’s waterways are not polluted because of our industrial past, but because our antiquated infrastructure causes 16 billion gallons of wastewater to overflow into the city’s rivers every year. The built-up shoreline forces rainwater runoff directly into the waterways, and the lack of green space at the rivers’ edge allows for limited natural filtration. There is increased public access and interaction with the riverfront, but recreationalists lack awareness of the unhealthy state of the rivers. As an intervention, the Clean Water Workshop provides a place where every day recreational activities aid in the filtration of rainwater runoff. Collective individuals and teams power a variety of resistance machines to generate the energy used in the water filtration process. To carry out this mission, the highly visible urban void beneath the Tenth Street Bypass will be utilized, as it is a place where a dense roadway system meets a high volume of pedestrian traffic.
JURY COMMENTS: The jury selected this project because it addresses a real void with a real solution, addressing a need that exists both recreationally and environmentally. We need attention drawn to clean water and the solution engages the community. It achieves everything we want to do on our riverfronts and makes it fun to participate. This space is very bleak from the other side of the river, yet the solution makes all the space useable and beautifully conveys the aesthetic of Pittsburgh’s riverfronts at night. The project has a totally modern sensibility, done simply and practically, as a celebration of health. It is clearly presented and highly inventive. The graphics are superb.
