The idea behind this design was to create a comfortable space the homeowners could enjoy. Designer Brittany Hutt specified Homecrest Cabinetry’s Verano Maple door style in the color Java for the double vanity that features a center tower for additional storage. The vanity was complete with a Granite Countertop and the Lattice Pull in a Chrome Finish from Atlas Hardware. For the flooring, 13x13 Villarreal tile in the color Mocha Latte with variation that correlates with the color tones throughout the rest of the bathroom. The shower floor tile and accent border showcases the Mocha Latte in a 3x3, which creates a pleasant contrast against the Villarreal in Almond Spice shower wall tile.

An academic couple, a renown materials scientist and a respected artist, wanted an outdoor space for entertainment and contemplation in their elegantly designed garden. We determined during the initial meeting that the design goal was “…to give them a reason to use the garden.” After several iterations, we developed the new space as an extension of the existing deck, creating a framed, optimal view of the garden and landscape that was previously de-emphasized. The pavilion can serve both as a stand-alone insect-protected space for a small group, or a covered deck expansion for larger gatherings. The repetition of patterns is a theme throughout the space. The corrugated white metal exterior is conceived as a textural complement to the pale horizontal face brick of the adjacent ranch house. The decking planks become the floor of the pavilion. Wall and ceiling panels align with lights and fixtures. Temporal patterns result from rainwater channelled across the correlated roof surface, as well as scalloped shadows cast onto the deck and wall surfaces. The “light chimney” to the North reflects the house fireplace chimney to the South, and draws south light into the pavilion serving area. All of the pavilion's openings are carefully arranged to frame the existing plant compositions. Since completion, the clients have entertained extensively in the pavilion. It has also become a favorite place for morning coffee, writing, and contemplation, thus fulfilling the initial goal of the project.

The acrylic wine racks reflect the gothic arches of the homes windows and use fiber optic lighting to set a variety of moods. The glass ceiling opens the room for display to a sitting room above and motorized black out shades provide protection for the wine collection.

You can have fun dressing up a bay area from simple to outstanding. Many decorative touches were added to this master bedroom’s bay area. Using a small dot faux silk fabric we added relaxed Roman shades with blackout lining for both light control, and privacy. The rod pocket drapery panels are in a striped faux silk fabric, correlating with the Roman shades. Tassel trim gracefully embellishes the draperies’ leading edge, and the decorative tassel tie backs effectuate the windows’ elegant style. We used short rods with end caps and decorative scroll finials in gold to finish off and accentuate the window treatments. A custom boxed seat cushion in a coordinating damask fabric significantly compliments the window treatment, as well as adding its own distinct beauty to the room.

Large picture windows are a lovely feature to let lots of sunlight into your home, and custom shaped cornices are a genuine becoming element for them. Accompanied by draperies and a sheer vertical wrap this cornice becomes a focal point of this magnificent window treatment. The cornice’s bottom edge is a subtle wave pattern following suit of the sofas’ top edge, further accentuating itself to the room. Using an embroidered faux silk fabric containing a soft blue background, both the cornice and draperies naturally enhance this window. The sheer vertical wrap beneath the cornice and draperies provides the living room with ample light control and privacy. As a finishing touch to correlate with this window treatment, we added throw pillows repeated in the embroidered faux silk fabric to the two sofas. Altogether, this positively harmonizes the room.

With adjacent neighbors within a fairly dense section of Paradise Valley, Arizona, C.P. Drewett sought to provide a tranquil retreat for a new-to-the-Valley surgeon and his family who were seeking the modernism they loved though had never lived in. With a goal of consuming all possible site lines and views while maintaining autonomy, a portion of the house — including the entry, office, and master bedroom wing — is subterranean. This subterranean nature of the home provides interior grandeur for guests but offers a welcoming and humble approach, fully satisfying the clients requests. While the lot has an east-west orientation, the home was designed to capture mainly north and south light which is more desirable and soothing. The architecture’s interior loftiness is created with overlapping, undulating planes of plaster, glass, and steel. The woven nature of horizontal planes throughout the living spaces provides an uplifting sense, inviting a symphony of light to enter the space. The more voluminous public spaces are comprised of stone-clad massing elements which convert into a desert pavilion embracing the outdoor spaces. Every room opens to exterior spaces providing a dramatic embrace of home to natural environment. Grand Award winner for Best Interior Design of a Custom Home The material palette began with a rich, tonal, large-format Quartzite stone cladding. The stone’s tones gaveforth the rest of the material palette including a champagne-colored metal fascia, a tonal stucco system, and ceilings clad with hemlock, a tight-grained but softer wood that was tonally perfect with the rest of the materials. The interior case goods and wood-wrapped openings further contribute to the tonal harmony of architecture and materials. Grand Award Winner for Best Indoor Outdoor Lifestyle for a Home This award-winning project was recognized at the 2020 Gold Nugget Awards with two Grand Awards, one for Best Indoor/Outdoor Lifestyle for a Home, and another for Best Interior Design of a One of a Kind or Custom Home. At the 2020 Design Excellence Awards and Gala presented by ASID AZ North, Ownby Design received five awards for Tonal Harmony. The project was recognized for 1st place – Bathroom; 3rd place – Furniture; 1st place – Kitchen; 1st place – Outdoor Living; and 2nd place – Residence over 6,000 square ft. The homeowners hated the outdated cabinetry, narrow peninsula and overall layout. They wanted a small home office area, but most importantly they wanted a large island with plenty of seating. There was an issue with the width of the kitchen. It was tricky to fit the island in the narrow area without ample space to allow a nice flow around it. However, we never want to disappoint our customers. SOLUTION In order to design a functional layout and give our customers their dream island, we went with shallow pantry units along the kitchen wall. That extra 12” allowed for just enough space for the island. Reworking the layout of the cabinetry on the perimeter of the kitchen opened up a space for a small home office area. We had to work with the existing radiant heated flooring. Replacing it was out of the question because of the additional costs. The choices of cabinetry and color scheme had to correlate with it. Therefore we selected oak cabinets in driftwood oak finish with warm brushed brass hardware. According to our customers we checked all the boxes on their dream kitchen wish list.

This stained glass window was created as part of our signature Aspen Stained Glass line. These windows look beautiful in cottage style or contemporary homes and are a great way for outdoor enthusiasts to celebrate their love of nature. The textured appearance of the glass provides the homeowners with a high level of privacy and comfort.

Together, this combination of bed coverings and window treatments create an astonishing Master Bedroom. The use of solid white textured full length draperies naturally frames the entire window. Using a decorative fluted pole and decorative finials genuinely correlate with the crown moulding. Beneath the draperies is a flat Roman valance in a botanical print fabric, further enhancing this window. As a final accent to this treatment, the decorative tabs with their contrast sleeves repeated from the flat Roman valance, bring a liveliness. The custom upholstered headboard coordinates with both window treatment and bed coverings, becomes and impressive accent to the bed altogether. With the use of a solid dot fabric, the duvet cover not only compliments the window treatment, also allowing it and the decorative pillows and shams to shine. Two sets of decorative shams harmonize the bed coverings with the window treatment. One sham set is repeated in the Roman valance fabric, finished with solid seafoam welt from second sham set. The second sham set is two-sided, one side repeated in duvet fabric, and opposite side in same type fabric as duvet but in seafoam, finished with welt in botanical print. Two yellow Euroshams brighten the space, and the plum sunburst pillow completes the area as whole.
