Beautiful perennial combination for spring color. The Hardy Ice plant continues to bloom thru the summer and into early fall. Both plants are very easy to grow if given full sun and adequate drainage. Very drought tolerant, fast growing, lovely spilling over boulders or edge of wall. Attracts pollinators too. The creeping phlox "Emerald Blue" has lovely green foliage year round. The ice plant will die back somewhat in winter pending the temperature.

Creeping phlox (Phlox subulata) is an evergreen, low growing ground cover that is extremely low maintenance. It is tolerant of a wide range of conditions from sunny to part shady and with very dry to normal soil. This photo was taken just a few months after installation of one-gallon size plants. The fast growth and explosion of spring color is due to providing optimum conditions. We prepared the soil in the area 6" deep rather than planting in hard compacted clay. The client was amazed and delighted that we could turn this problem area into the envy of the neighborhood in just a few months. Location: Cohasset, MA, United States This elegant property has gorgeous views of the harbor, with sweeping stone walls that create a terraced effect. With a narrow driveway and leaning concrete retaining walls, parking was a major challenge at this 1938 brick Tudor on Spokane's South Hill. Crumbling concrete stairs added another layer of difficulty, and after a particularly rough winter, the homeowners were ready for a change. The failing concrete walls were replaced with stacked boulders, which created space for a new, wider driveway. Natural stone steps offer access to the backyard, while the new front stairs and sidewalk provide a safe route to the front door. The original iron railings were preserved and modified to be reused with the new stairs.
