Due to critical lighting upgrades 20+ years later, the curatorial team requested a new look at the lighting within this intimate gallery. Simple angled custom light wells were designed to hide pinspot LEDs at the bottom of the screens to ensure even illumination without distracting from the seamless architecture Ando designed years earlier. WiFi enabled track lighting was installed overhead to allow the curators and installers to change settings from outside the tight case. The effect is even and flexible for future installations and maintains the low 5 footcandle limit required by conservation.

This couple had lived in their home over 20-years, with their handicapped adult daughter. 5 years-ago they added onto the back of their home to accommodate appropriate housing needs for her, such as a wheel-chair lift. However, their home needed wheelchair-accessibility, beginning with transition from daughter’s room on lower level, to main kitchen level, via existing lift. The project was budget-driven so it was critical to utilize practical cost-effective materials, while transforming home’s overall dated-look. My House Design/Build Team Ltd. successfully opened-up the space, increased use-ability for whole family, and provided the ‘wow-factor’. The renewed kitchen is much more efficient providing a practical solution for family.

This lakefront home is located on a small plateau in Forest Beach Estates, high above the lake and beach. The design of the home resulted from the Department of Environmental Qualities Critical Dunes Build-able area requirement. The resulting footprint created a flowing curved surface in plan and a curving perimeter that was covered by a curved roof. The views are spectacular from the three viewing levels of this home and allow the plan to provide multiple point panoramic vistas wherever you are in the spaces. We designed this home to be like a land ship with its ports of call the four seasons. To prevent wandering without "imprisoning" residents, camouflaging exit doors and using unobtrusive or keypad locks. Exit doors can also be placed off to the left, or right of hallways so they are not conveyed as destinations.

Seeing a rising demand for sustainable housing along with rising Carbon emissions leading to global warming, this house strives to show that sensible, good design can create spaces adequate for today’s housing demands while adhering to strict standards. The house was designed to meet the very rigid Passiv House rating system – 90% more efficient than a typical home in the area. The house itself was intended to nestle neatly into the 45 degree sloped site and to take full advantage of the limited solar access and views. The views range from short, highly wooded views to a long corridor out towards the Uinta Mountain range towards the east. The house was designed and built based off Passiv Haus standards, and the framing and ventilation became critical elements to maintain such minimal energy requirements. Zola triple-pane, tilt-and-turn Thermo uPVC windows contribute substantially to the home’s energy efficiency, and takes advantage of the beautiful surrounding of the location, including forrest views from the deck off of the kitchen.
