Shots of our iconic shed "Hanssel or Gretel". A play on words from the famous story, due to the families last name and this being a his or hers (#heshed #sheshed or #theyshed), but not a play on function. This dynamic homeowner crew uses the shed for their private offices, alongside e-learning, meeting, relaxing and to unwind. This 10'x10' are requires no permit and can be completed in less that 3 days (interior excluded). The exterior space is approximately 40'x40', still required no permitting and was done in conjunction with a landscape designer. Inspiration for a mid-sized transitional master ceramic tile and brown floor bedroom remodel in Houston with gray walls

This newly constructed home was in need of an outdoor living space and streetscape in a matching contemporary Northwest style. Our studio composed a landscape with an improved entry sequence, balancing the need for personal privacy alongside a distinctive public face. A steel framed gabion basket wall provides a crisp edge and doubles as retaining for the private patio behind the horizontal board fence. The courtyard oasis with a new deck is enclosed by warm wooden fencing set on top of the contrasting raw texture of a gabion retaining wall that acts as a backdrop to bold streetscape plantings.

Already partially enclosed by an ipe fence and concrete wall, our client had a vision of an outdoor courtyard for entertaining on warm summer evenings since the space would be shaded by the house in the afternoon. He imagined the space with a water feature, lighting and paving surrounded by plants. With our marching orders in place, we drew up a schematic plan quickly and met to review two options for the space. These options quickly coalesced and combined into a single vision for the space. A thick, 60” tall concrete wall would enclose the opening to the street – creating privacy and security, and making a bold statement. We knew the gate had to be interesting enough to stand up to the large concrete walls on either side, so we designed and had custom fabricated by Dennis Schleder (www.dennisschleder.com) a beautiful, visually dynamic metal gate. The gate has become the icing on the cake, all 300 pounds of it! Other touches include drought tolerant planting, bluestone paving with pebble accents, crushed granite paving, LED accent lighting, and outdoor furniture. Both existing trees were retained and are thriving with their new soil. The garden was installed in December and our client is extremely happy with the results – so are we! Example of a trendy white exterior home design in Miami

Dramatic plant textures, modern hardscaping and sharp angles enhanced this mid-century modern bungalow. Soft plants were chosen to contrast with the sharp angles of the pathways and hard edges of the MCM home, while providing all-season interest. Horizontal privacy screens wrap the front porch and create intimate garden spaces – some visible only from the street and some visible only from inside the home. The front yard is relatively small in size, but full of colorful texture.

The more formal ipe veranda, benches and trellis, stained concrete and steel planters transition to a more rustic railroad tie and crushed rock side entrance. Grasses provide a tough, bright contrast to the dark wood along with Chondropetalum and Jade accent plants. Citrus pots frame the entries to the mid terrace above.

The new driveway is designed to be permeable. A cobblestone apron makes a nice transition from public roadway to private drive. The crushed stone drive leads to a parking area paved with permeable concrete paver units.

Inspiration for a modern landscaping in Seattle.

This functional, light-filled home takes full advantage of its bucolic site. With the introduction of the butterfly roof, natural light, ventilation and views are brought into the main gathering spaces. Distance between the private and public zones is created by a shift in geometry where those two meet in plan, to provide a calming and rejuvenating private retreat for the occupants.
