The family purchased the 1950s ranch on Mullet Lake because their daughter dreamed of being married on its shores. The home would be used for the wedding venue and then as a wedding gift to the young couple. We were originally hired in August 2014 to help with a simple renovation of the home that was to be completed well in advance of the August 2015 wedding date. However, thorough investigation revealed significant issues with the original foundation, floor framing and other critical elements of the home’s structure that made that impossible. Based on this information, the family decided to tear down and build again. So now we were tasked with designing a new home that would embody their daughter’s vision of a storybook home – a vision inspired by another one of our projects that she had toured. To capture this aesthetic, traditional cottage materials such as stone and cedar shakes are accentuated by more materials such as reclaimed barn wood siding and corrugated CORTEN steel accent roofs. Inside, interior finishes include hand-hewn timber accents that frame openings and highlight features like the entrance reading nook. Natural materials shine against white walls and simply furnished rooms. While the house has nods to vintage style throughout, the open-plan kitchen and living area allows for both contemporary living and entertaining. Example of an eclectic home design design in Calgary

My clients had outgrown their builder’s basic home and had plenty of room to expand on their 10 acres. Working with a local architect and a talented contractor, we designed an addition to create 3 new bedrooms, a bathroom scaled for all 3 girls, a playroom and a master retreat including 3 fireplaces, sauna, steam shower, office or “creative room”, and large bedroom with folding glass wall to capitalize on their view. The master suite, gym, pool and tennis courts are still under construction, but the girls’ suite and living room space are complete and dust free. Each child’s room was designed around their preference of color scheme and each girl has a unique feature that makes their room truly their own. The oldest daughter has a secret passage hidden behind what looks like built in cabinetry. The youngest daughter wanted to “swing”, so we outfitted her with a hanging bed set in front of a custom mural created by a Spanish artist. The middle daughter is an elite gymnast, so we added monkey bars so she can cruise her room in style. The girls’ bathroom suite has 3 identical “stations” with abundant storage. Cabinetry in black walnut and peacock blue and white quartz counters with white marble backsplash are durable and beautiful. Two shower stalls, designed with a colorful and intricate tile design, prevent bathroom wait times and a custom wall mural brings a little of the outdoors in. The vision for this project in our client’s home located in Westfield, NJ, was to bring a timeless and classic look to their daughter’s nursery. The beauty in deciding to get custom drapes, is that one has the power to decide on every little detail that goes into manufacturing their draperies. Everything custom made, is made and selected with intention, and this project was exactly that. For this nursery room in our client’s home, they really wanted to achieve a very classic and timeless look. They wanted their nursery to be a room in which their daughter could grow and still be able to keep the same aesthetic as the years progress. For this reason, our designer suggested going with a very light and simple fabric. The fabric utilized for the nursery was Evoque / Calm, made of a polyester and cotton blend. This white fabric with a very light sheen gave the room a very open and simple feel, yet elegant look. Along with being intentional with the fabric choice, the height of the drapes were also a small detail that went a long way with decorating this room. THE BEAUTY OF PUDDLED DRAPES These drapes are what we would call “puddled drapes.” This simply means the drapes have a break on the floor of about 2-3 inches. The decision to make the drapes puddle allowed for the look of the room to be exactly what our client desired, which was to have that timeless and classic look. In addition to the fabric choice itself, the hardware used for this project also added to that aesthetic. The choice to go with the designer rod and rings in matte black, allowed for our customers to have flow within their entire house. Other spaces in their home have black accents, so choosing to go with this hardware, they were able to incorporate the same look as the rest of their home. All in all, all the decisions made as far as fabric selection and hardware allowed for our customer to transform their daughter’s nursery to exactly what they desired.
