This home resides in the covert worthy neighborhood of Garthwick. Surrounded by one of Portland’s most prestigious country clubs, beautifully classic homes, and oak trees that tell the stories of generations; it was a dream to breathe new life into this traditional cottage. The clients truly enjoyed the design process from start to finish, commenting regularly at how much fun it was to work through all of the details with the APD team!
Awkwardly located stairs to the basement were reconfigured and an unused chimney was removed adding significant square footage of space and linear footage of storage & countertop to the kitchen. An original window at the back of the kitchen was removed in favor of French doors out to the client’s new terrace making perfect access for alfresco dining with family and friends. Within an existing nook, we created a multi-purpose zone with convenient coffee prep space, wine decanting and buffet serving surface, and even custom storage for baking sheets and trays … perfect for baking cookies with the grandchildren! Custom push-out casement windows behind the sink speak to the home’s original architecture while bringing in an abundance of natural light. Clean lined and elegant fixtures and a custom plaster hood make the space shine!
The new kitchen is at once classic, casual, traditional, and in-keeping with the home’s original character while infused with the modern amenities including custom cabinets, storage accessories, professional appliances, & easily maintained surfaces.

Unassuming Storage building? Guess again. This gorgeous custom wine cellar, designed and built by wine cellar design experts, Vintage Cellars, shows that you can outfit virtually any space to be a one of a kind, perfect place for wine storage.
Here in Laguna Beach, Orange County California, the temperatures stay pretty nice year round. Through the magic of wine cellar vapor barrier and insulation, the design build team at Vintage Cellars was able to properly prepare this outbuilding to store over 1700 collectible wines.
Working closely with the client, we were able to understand that although display is nice - uncompromising long term storage was the overarching goal. Sweeping throughout the room above, individual bottle storage reigns to maximize bottle count. At about chest height, you can see two rows of angled high reveal display. Here, the homeowner placed his prized bottles - just a glimpse of what this incredible collection holds.
Directly in the center of this medium sized wine room lies a small peninsula - a small section jetting out where larger format bottles are kept atop, as well as more space below in individual bottle storage. A small tabletop can be utilized to open wines or to let your favorites decant while you peruse the gems throughout.
Below again is more individual bottle storage, sitting atop gorgeous Mediterranean style tile.
Another unique feature of this wine cellar / wine room / wine storage space / wine closet / wine shed / wine vault / custom wine cellar / custom wine room / custom wood wine cellar / redwood wine cellar is the bridge across the top of the door. Often, this space can be overlooked, but the experts at Vintage Cellars are seasoned in delivering a desired end result. We were able to squeeze in another 100 bottles above the doorframe - and it looks fantastic.
This Raw Redwood wooden wine cellar has a recessed cooling unit in the ceiling, with wood paneling behind the racking to add to the pleasing golden hue of the wine racks themselves.
Traditional Wine Cellars like this wooden wine cellar in Laguna Beach are common in areas such as Dana Point, Laguna Hills, Laguna Niguel, Aliso Viejo, Newport Beach, San Clemente, Irvine, Crystal Cove, Emerald Bay, Coto De Caza, Corona Del Mar, Huntington Beach and more.
With so many different kinds of wine racks / wine racking / wine cellar designs and styles, you can really go in any and every direction in the discovery and design phase of a custom wine cellar project. The Custom wine cellar builder custom wine cellar builders team at Vintage Cellars make the entire process exciting, informative, and smooth from start to finish.

The glass double doors look into the handsome custom wine cellar adjacent to the "Man Cave". The recessed ceiling provides an added dimension to the otherwise square room. A clear coated Mahogany wood was used to build the custom wine cellar. Due to the owners needs to store various wine bottle sizes, many different elements were included in the racking to hold 1100 bottles. A wood louver was built to hide the climate control air handler split system above the door. A high reveal display angle surrounds the room and is lit with rope lighting. The arch in the back of the room includes a front load stemware holder on either side with a stone countertop just above the drawer for decanting. Wood case pullouts allow for easy access to special case wines. Both corners of the room include void bottle bins from floor to ceiling as well as diamond bins to accommodate all bottle sizes.

This glamorous sitting room area is the perfect spot for intimate gatherings. It is a blend of the homeowner's furnishings - the four club chairs and the oriental rug - with a variety of new pieces.
I spiced things up by introducing a deep leaf green color in the opulent faux silk roman shades, as well as in the custom designed throw pillows. A bold zebra print and leather circular ottoman together with gold metal nesting tables and bar cart have been added.
Above the bar cart, black and white classic photography gives the space a chic and retro feel. The crowning glory is the organic branches chandelier, which casts a beautiful warm glow in the evenings, adding to the inviting mood of the space.

Custom wooden wine racking comprised the entire residential wine cellar design.

This photo shows the elegant lattice arch with a tabletop in this North Dallas home wine cellar. This area provides a place for decanting and serving the wines.
We added a stemware rack on both sides of the arch for easy access of the wine glasses. The artwork complements the design of the wine room.

This unique custom wine cellar was installed in the La Costa / San Elijo Hills area in San Diego. Offset a few miles from the beach, this gorgeous area has the advantage of a constant sea breeze, keeping the surrounding microclimate some ten plus degrees cooler than just over the hill a bit further inland.
This sleek and contemporary looking furniture piece, nestled up against the far wall within the temperature and humidity controlled wine room, acts as the main focus within the space. This style of racking fitted into the wine cabinet is the vintage view wall series. The wine cabinet also includes space for grouped bottles as well as wine case storage.
The client's idea for the space was to have a gorgeous showpiece wall of wines, coupled with a small and intimate area to enjoy the bottles with friends.
The small open space centered between the racking in this large wine cellar can also be utilized as a perfect spot to decant wine.
The label forward design of this contemporary wine racking system is becoming the hottest new trend in wine storage design!

This project has two tiers of wine cellar space for entertaining and enjoyment. The wine room, which houses the collection, has a tall ceiling height allowing for an arched barrel ceiling and use of a rolling library ladder for easy access to bottles stored in upper rows. Steps away, the tasting room includes ample room for stemware, decanters, dishwasher and beverage fridge. Mahogany wine racking, millwork, stone work and the decorative arched door create an inviting environment.
