This client has been a client with EdenLA since 2010, and this is one of the projects we have done with them through the years. We are in planning phases now of a historical Spanish stunner in Hancock Park, but more on that later. This home reflected our awesome clients' affinity for the modern. A slight sprucing turned into a full renovation complete with additions of this mid century modern house that was more fitting for their growing family. Working with this client is always truly collaborative and we enjoy the end results immensely. The custom gallery wall in this house was super fun to create and we love the faith our clients place in us.

Elongated glass tiles create the backsplash for this modern butler’s pantry. Hues of amber, ivory and deep brown effortlessly marry the off-white cabinets to the honed black granite countertop. A gold and mirrored tray proudly displays an assortment of crystal decanters and complements the cabinets’ Rocky Mountain hardware.

This home resides in the covert worthy neighborhood of Garthwick. Surrounded by one of Portland’s most prestigious country clubs, beautifully classic homes, and oak trees that tell the stories of generations; it was a dream to breathe new life into this traditional cottage. The clients truly enjoyed the design process from start to finish, commenting regularly at how much fun it was to work through all of the details with the APD team!
Awkwardly located stairs to the basement were reconfigured and an unused chimney was removed adding significant square footage of space and linear footage of storage & countertop to the kitchen. An original window at the back of the kitchen was removed in favor of French doors out to the client’s new terrace making perfect access for alfresco dining with family and friends. Within an existing nook, we created a multi-purpose zone with convenient coffee prep space, wine decanting and buffet serving surface, and even custom storage for baking sheets and trays … perfect for baking cookies with the grandchildren! Custom push-out casement windows behind the sink speak to the home’s original architecture while bringing in an abundance of natural light. Clean lined and elegant fixtures and a custom plaster hood make the space shine!
The new kitchen is at once classic, casual, traditional, and in-keeping with the home’s original character while infused with the modern amenities including custom cabinets, storage accessories, professional appliances, & easily maintained surfaces.

This incredible construction and engineering feat of a custom wine cellar involved the homeowner completely digging out the space by hand under the ground of their garage. The space was then excavated and re-covered and sealed to appear as if nothing had ever happened.
Inside the house, A stone archway and corridor, covering a rustic and ornate staircase leads down into the underground custom wine cellar. The stairs also have a counterweight feature in which they completely lift vertically half way down the staircase to reveal another small storage space. Not for wine, but what a cool feature!
Upon entering this large walk in wine cellar, stone archways welcome you into a dimly lit social space, surrounded by thousands of incredible bottles of burgundy, bordaux, napa vally cabernets and the like. Stone surrounds the custom designed wine racking arches. On the left side of the entrance, there is a gorgeous mosaic of wine grapes and leaves in a somewhat abstract fashion. The gorgeous marble countertop underneath with a Rogar wine bottle opener remains as a perfect place to open and decant wine to let breathe.
The main room in the rustic wine cellar features individual and double bottle storage, stone and unfinished walnut archways, and high reveal display rows wrapping throughout. The stone walls, torch-like lighting fixtures and the stunning old world style chandelier creates a true feeling that this Huntington Beach / Newport Beach wine cellar is actually inside of an old castle.
Upon turning the corner into the next wine storage space, you are greeted by walls of library style, floor to ceiling, double deep wine racking with a high reveal display row at waist level. This section of the vintage rustic wine cellar also has a library ladder, ensuring that every bottle can be reached with ease.
The homeowners intelligently collaborated with Vintage Cellars to create a smart wine cellar design with room for social gatherings, as well as a back corridor featuring their most prized wines and champagnes. The unique underground location of this medieval farmhouse style wine cellar also assists greatly in maintaining a constant cool temperature and humidity.
The homeowners could not have been more pleased with their new wine cellar, and they were truly incredible people and a pleasure working with as well.

A wine room strategically placed on second floor next to bar with a focus to be viewed as well from ground floor. The wine racking was designed to be as light as possible with thin lacquered metal framing and almost rest of elements in acrylic and low iron glass. A display counter and glass holder also placed and room for decorative decanters. The bottom of the racks allow for added storage and special wine crates. The LED lighting provide a glow that gives it the WOW effect the client was looking for.

The custom wine cellar door is the initial invitation to enter this spacious cellar that accommodates over 1300 bottles of wine. A combination of individual bottle bins, solid diamond bins, magnum bins and pull out case storage shelves and solid cabinet shelving provides a home for the various sized bottles. Front load stemware holders are tucked within the sides of arch and the reclaimed wine barrel "cooperage" table top provides a perfect place to decant the wines. Two LED lit display alcoves, as well as a row of high reveal angle displays surround the room to showcase those special labels.
