This home enjoys stunning views of Sweeney Lake from almost anywhere in the home; however it was in need of repair and a significant reorganization of the plan to take full advantage of site. The project is about the complete restoration and rethinking of this vintage 1965 mid-century gem. The house is deceivingly large with a full finished lower level and an indoor pool room; however it lived cramped and broken up. The entry was uninviting and small, the poolroom unused and poorly heated, the kitchen undersized, and the bedrooms and baths poorly accessed. Our task was to open up the home through the rethinking of the floor plan and the introduction of a new central axis connecting and organizing the homes functions and spaces around view corridors and existing or new focal points. The home had beautiful features to build upon; the central brick fireplace, the raised roofs over the living and pool rooms, and the view to the lake itself. A fully redone exterior and interior preserve the homes proportion and scale, while at the same time bring greater connection to the site and a much needed clarity to the homes organization. The Dove White Glaze is one of our most popular traditional style cabinets for those searching for white cabinets with a glaze. The door style is a raised panel beautified with a hand drawn dark brown glaze. Similar to our White and Grey Shaker, what makes this line unique is the door is made from a one piece solid wood which means not only does it look clean and sleek; it is not prone to the issue white colored cabinets suffer from shrinkage and expansion. The most common issue for white cabinets with a five piece construction is when there is shrinkage or expansion, the lines from the joint or seams will be distorted and noticeable, but this does not happen in our Dove White Glaze cabinets due to the door being a one piece construction. Alone, the cabinets look gorgeous, but when combined with crown molding, decorative fillers, and other accessories, you must see it to believe how magnificent they truly look. Other great ideas to spruce up your kitchen with traditional style cabinets include: a high low or staggered height wall cabinet, decorative doors, different array of islands with pillars/columns, or even adding the cabinets in your bathroom and laundry room. The quality does not just stop at the door. If we dive deeper into this cabinet line, we will see that the cabinet comes with soft close hinges and drawer glides, dovetailed full extension drawers, a full piece plywood back panel, and 5/8” plywood box. For the interiors, Axis Mundi typically decided not to play by the rules. Instead of de rigeur nautical artifacts, floppy sofas and wicker furniture, the firm responded to Makoid’s all-white interior envelope by injecting rooms with comfortable modern elegance that’s more contemporary Cap Ferrat than Eastern Long Island. Clean furniture silhouettes—from Cassina, Poltrona Frau and B&B Italia—a Massimo Vitali beach scene, a Moooi chandelier and industrial finishes (such as the steel of the fireplace surround and the anodized aluminum of a sleek Bulthaup kitchen) spark a creative tension between indoors and out. The gray palette provides a quiet backdrop for the nature outside, except for the master suite, where custom oak panels and blue shades create a reassuring warmth conducive to sleep. Looks can be deceiving. While these raised-panel Amarr Heritage doors feature the aesthetics of a wood door, they are in fact heavy-gauge steel doors that are durable and require little maintenance. The dual direction woodgrain in "Golden Oak" creates a traditional look, which is completed with the addition of handles and hinges.

The open space plan on the main level of the Prairie Style home is deceiving of the actual separation of spaces. This home packs a punch with a private hot tub, craft room, library, and even a theater. The interior of the home features the same attention to place, as the natural world is evident in the use of granite, basalt, walnut, poplar, and natural river rock throughout. Floor to ceiling windows in strategic locations eliminates the sense of compression on the interior, while the overall window design promotes natural daylighting and cross-ventilation in nearly every space of the home. Glo’s A5 Series in double pane was selected for the high performance values and clean, minimal frame profiles. High performance spacers, double pane glass, multiple air seals, and a larger continuous thermal break combine to reduce convection and eliminate condensation, ultimately providing energy efficiency and thermal performance unheard of in traditional aluminum windows.
