For this primary bedroom redesign, the client envisioned a retreat that would provide a sense of escape and tranquility. The room was designed with a moody atmosphere, blending deep, rich colors that envelop the space in a cocoon of comfort. Color drenching was used on the walls, creating a seamless flow of hues that added depth and warmth. A stunning mural wallpaper became a focal point, its intricate design bringing an artistic, yet serene element to the room. To elevate the ambiance, a statement light fixture was carefully selected, adding a touch of luxury and drawing attention upward. Every element was thoughtfully curated to transform the space into a peaceful sanctuary, offering both beauty and relaxation in equal measure.

This man cave incorporates masculine design elements–and wine storage–to create a well-appointed retreat for the refined man.

Moody Elegance: A Warm and Inviting Forest Green Kitchen & Mudroom
Step into a home that perfectly blends elegance and functionality with a sophisticated palette. Forest green cabinetry sets the stage for a space that feels both moody and welcoming, while thoughtfully placed accents infuse it with a touch of transitional charm.
Key Features:
Forest Green Cabinetry: Deep, rich forest green cabinets create an eye-catching focal point that exudes elegance and depth. This timeless color adds a sense of sophistication while being versatile enough to suit a transitional style.
Warm and Inviting Details: Natural wood accents, like a wood butcher block in the kitchen, built-in bench or floating shelves, balance the deep green and bring warmth to the space. This combination creates an inviting atmosphere perfect for busy comings and goings.
Pops of Color: Accents like decorative pillows, a vase of fresh flowers, or colorful storage baskets add subtle splashes of color to contrast with the cabinetry and liven up the space. These touches make the mudroom feel more personalized and engaging.
Elegant Hardware: Brass or matte gold hardware lends an upscale touch, elevating the design and enhancing the warmth of the forest green cabinetry.
Functional and Stylish Flooring: Rich walnut wood floor in to add visual interest and a sense of luxury, without overpowering the cabinetry.
Lighting That Glows: Layered lighting, such as a statement pendant light or recessed LED strips, casts a warm glow throughout the space, enhancing its welcoming feel while maintaining a moody, elegant ambiance.
This moody yet warm design is perfectly balanced sophistication with practicality. With its elegant forest green cabinetry, pops of color, and transitional elements, it becomes more than just a functional space—it becomes an extension of your home’s refined style.

Nestled in the rolling hills of Jamul, this small rural home exudes the quiet charm and tranquility of the surrounding California landscape. Designed as a peaceful retreat from the day-to-day, it reflects its owner’s deep connection to nature and her beloved menagerie of horses, chickens, sheep, ducks, and dogs. Warm, rich materials and handcrafted details define the home’s aesthetic and bring a sense of enduring comfort. The kitchen features handcrafted Hallmark cabinetry in warm-stained alder paired with ivory-painted finishes, creating a timeless and inviting palette. Quartz countertops offer easy maintenance, their golden veining harmonizing with buttery yellow Pratt & Larson handcrafted tile, where delicate bees and dragonfly relief provide a playful nod to the farm’s natural beauty. Copper accents add artisanal warmth, including a Stoll copper range hood with a custom patina finish and copper tin inlay at the island. These same materials and craftsmanship extend to the home’s fireplace surrounds. The warm-stained alder continues here, enriched with traditional dentil molding just below the mantel. Surrounding the fireboxes, artisan ceramic tile appears in a deep, rich burgundy hue, while small glass mosaic introduces a subtle interplay of soft yellows, rich browns, and creams to weave the home’s cohesive palette together. Every finish, tone, and texture — from cabinetry to fireplace — speaks a unified language of warmth and handcrafted detail. Functionality and lifestyle are equally prioritized. Now, upon entering through the new Dutch door — a favorite perch for the dogs — guests are greeted by an open, welcoming space. By removing a wall and raising a dropped ceiling, the vaulted plank and beam detailing now spans the entire space, creating a light filled, open plan that naturally connects the kitchen and living room. New high-end appliances and thoughtful features like a pull-out pantry enable the homeowner to cook and entertain with ease. Given the home’s rural setting, fire-resistant materials and durable wood-look tile flooring were selected to ensure long-term resilience, accommodating the daily rhythms of animals and outdoor living while maintaining the refined yet cozy aesthetic of a true country haven. Ultimately, this project captures the spirit of California’s rolling landscape — warm, enduring, and full of heart — creating a home that is both a sanctuary and a celebration of the life lived within and beyond its walls.
