Environmental Consciousness - Why does Houzz promote bottled water (lower shelf in photo of pantry)? Do you not realize how bad it is for our environment? Not to mention the water shortage, esp in the state of CA? Please be more aware. Thank you.

Please give me a break about bottled water! Are you seriously complaining about this. That is ridiculous. I love this photo and Houzz. I agree with the other comment about political correctness. I mean really. It's just a picture. Now it's wrong to show bottled water in a picture! Really! Get a grip! You don't have to put bottled water in your pantry, if you have one. Or maybe there is a problem with having that too. I hate people who need to complain about every little thing. I think you have too much time on your hands. I have bottled water and filtered water in my fridge also. If you are going to start complaining about the items I guess you should complain about he food too then, like it's not gluten free or oh no there are nuts and sugar! I guess you don't like real fur either. I love my furs. They keep me very warm in the winter and they look gorgeous too! And by the way Merry Christmas! I'm saying that because I can. Do you have problems with Christmas trees in public places too?

Holy jeezus. Seriously. I’m behind a 3 years on this comment but get a freaking life. Do you drive a car? Do you wear clothes? I’m sure I can stick the political correctness up a dark hole and come up with reason as to why nothing should be showed on Houzz so that they don’t offend anyone. Get off your self righteous horse and move to mars.

I like that the floor is free of clutter, keeping it easy to clean. I'm planning to use some of these great ideas for my new home. I think the pantry is somewhat similar in design, and this photo has really helped me. Thanks!

Hi, Mrs. Robin,

You could use it for a sewing room, small home office, storage room, play room, or you could build a closet for that room and use it for a guest room.

If you have a bedroom next to it, you can remodel and either make it one

room or put a closet between the two. There is so many ways to do it. Hope this helps you to think what you would like to do. Sonja

Hi! Every kitchen is different depending on space and what you have. I typically store my client' spices in a cabinet near the stove on a tiered shelf so that they are all easily visible. If you have more drawer space than cabinet space, that is an option too. Where are you located? Perhaps one of our NEAT girls can help you!

My builder is planning to install a spice rack inside the pantry door, which otherwise would be unused space.

Both are good for freshness. We tend to use the plastic for our client's with children who may also be using those items like cereal.

Plastic is safer for children, that's true, but provides the same level of freshness as glass. And you can recycle plastics, so it's okay for the environment, too.

Hi, Drawers like this are great to store lunch boxes, they also make a great bread drawer or can be used for baking supplies like cookie cutters etc.
If drawers are not an option, baskets can act like drawers.

I don't call organization OCD. Love the look. Something to aspire to in stages. I'd would like my pantry to look like and be this organized, but realistically I'm not willing to put out all the money for the matching containers or spend the time figuring out how much I have of each thing that's going into the containers!!

No a rainbow of cream and eggshell earth tones and whites with exciting changeable colors that fit your mood home and make the beautiful browns of the wood feel even more majestic than pictured on a flat scheme that lacks depth but not purity.

What Houzz contributors are saying:

Laura Gaskill added this to How to Stage Your Kitchen for a Home Sale
7. Organize the pantry. Pare back the contents of your pantry until you have some open space on each shelf. Organize what’s left into a set of matching food storage containers or open baskets. This may mean removing a bunch of food — just remember that a staged kitchen is not necessarily a practical kitchen! As with items from your cupboards, keep extra pantry goods in a box out of sight during showings if you must.Get It Done: How to Clean Out the Pantry
Amber Hopman added this to The Most Popular Kitchen Storage Ideas of 2014
1. Walk-in pantry. Clear food storage containers, such as glass jars, and cookbooks organized by color helped make this pantry the most popular photo of 2014. Almost 120,000 users have saved this photo.Katie Koentje, an independent organizing professional at Neat Method San Diego, says she created this pantry with kids in mind. “The client wanted her pantry to be kid friendly and also easy for her children to make healthy snack options,” she says. “We used kid-friendly containers so the kids could easily and safely access the food, and made sure that healthy snacks like raisins and other dried fruit were low enough for the children to reach.”Koentje opted mostly for kid-friendly plastic containers, but she included glass jars for baking products and baskets for bagged items, like chips and bread.

35. Organization and color coordination are key in this meticulous San Diego pantry, created by Neat Method San Diego.
Erin Carlyle added this to Houzz Call: Guys, Where Do You Feel Most at Home?
An organized pantry can make the epicure’s heart sing. Or perhaps a well-run kitchen makes you feel most yourself, because you’re the one keeping the pans sizzling. Whether you’re gratified by the organization factor or the simple presence of fine cooking ingredients, we’d love to see food spaces if that’s where you feel most at ease.Share your photos: Upload your inspiring kitchen and pantry photos in the Comments section and tell us why that’s your happy spot.Read more about storage solutions for the pantry
Samantha van Egmond added this to 5 Home Cooking Tips From the Experts
After taking stock of what you have in the refrigerator and writing a shopping list, focus on timing and food prep for a smooth week in the kitchen. Merivale executive chef Christopher Hogarth says the right food storage containers are the key to quick and easy planning. He recommends buying stackable and transparent containers so you can see what’s inside.
Tailorly, Professional Home Organizing added this to Whip Your Baking Center Into Shape
4. Invest in Airtight Storage ContainersTo maximize the freshness of your ingredients, minimize air contact. Investing in airtight containers can save you money in the long run by extending the shelf life of your ingredients. Choose containers that stack and line up well together, keeping in mind that square or rectangular ones may create more usable space than round ones. Select containers large enough to hold the typical amount of ingredient you purchase, so you don’t always have half a bag of something sitting around. I recommend grouping small and random items — cookie cutters, cupcake liners, bottles of food coloring, small appliance parts — into containers to keep them organized. Clear containers or clearly labeled opaque ones will make organizing and finding items easier. Before you buy, be sure to measure your space to ensure the containers will fit well.Browse kitchen storage containers
