Our staff has suggested a large double door entrance to enter this master suite, new lighting throughout, eliminating columns and partition walls and adding coffer ceiling, built ins surrounding new fireplace and marble hearts. The old window was replaced, a much bigger eyebrow picture window and couple casement side flange given a magnificent view of scenic backyard The old bathroom was totally gutted, opened closed shower area to a large walk in stall with built in bench and frameless glass, state of art shower system all part of new amenities An upscale free-standing tub surrounded with marble floors and walls. To create their individual spaces, now they have high end vanities with built ins, framed mirrors and marble counter tops, His and hers custom closet system have lots of organized space, and new wood floors to match rest of master suite space. Picture perfect is what this sanctuary spa feels like for couple and they can't be any happier to retire to this space at the end of each busy day.

2013 CHRYSALIS AWARD NATIONAL WINNER, KITCHEN REMODEL $50,000 TO $75,000 “Crowded and disturbing” is how the woman of the house described this kitchen. A big peninsula with a huge range hood blocked the kitchen off from the breakfast room, a chimney style wall blocked off another side of the space and the doorways were too narrow. The result was a cramped feel with no traffic flow and a lack of usable storage. To remedy these issues, the remodeling plan called for regrouping all tall kitchen elements into a low visibility wall, eliminating the peninsula and then creating a natural path through the space using a middle island. Relocating the stove against the room’s back wall allowed the installation of a beautiful wood mantel hood and improved the work triangle. The side walls house beautiful custom white cabinets; one side housing the pantry, refrigerator and double wall ovens, the other the kitchen sink and dishwasher. The center island features a mahogany wood countertop and provides plenty of workspace above and storage below. Contrasting with the glazed cabinets, the woodwork is a highlight of the project and a key part of delivering on the homeowner’s desire for a bright, clean kitchen. They installed exotic mahogany floors to complement center wood Island. The floors also had created a casual ambiance, especially against the soft lemon chiffon wall paint. The ultimate French country style kitchen was completed by furnishing the old breakfast area with casual seating rather than a formal table.

This kitchen was part of a new addition to a small midcentury home in Ann Arbor. The homeowners wanted a space that felt warm and inviting, with a nod to midcentury design but without being overly faithful to the era. They described their vision as “midcentury modest,” and the finished kitchen captures that balance with clean lines, natural wood tones, and simple, approachable details. A unique design challenge shaped the layout. Because of a child’s medical condition, all food storage needed to be separate and able to lock. The refrigerator, pantry, and even the trash are located in a connected butler’s pantry behind a pocket door that keeps everything secure yet easy to reach when needed. Warm wood cabinetry, quartz countertops, and globe pendants feel right at home in the kitchen. Open shelves and vintage-inspired hardware add subtle references to midcentury design while keeping the space light and functional. Casually luxurious describes this patio design of ours. We created an outdoor dining area for when family and guests want to spend quality time in the gorgeous California outdoors as well as an outdoor seating area. Equipped with soft textiles, chandelier lighting, and plenty of table space, this outdoor design is functional, beautiful, comfortable, and aesthetically pleasing.

This challenging kitchen came our way at the same time as another similarly located Centennial kitchen. It was apparent that both houses had been built by the same builder: tight space, low ceilings, awkward arrangement, and poor building materials. Our client here is a single mother of three boys with an incredibly demanding work life. Once finally home at the end of a busy day, our client was virtually unable to use her kitchen. Cabinet doors were falling off, limited storage and workspace offered her little opportunity to cook and prep for her children, and the dark and low ceiling created an atmosphere that can only be described as depressing. Our client is also from Louisiana and has always dreamed of a kitchen that reminds her of home warmth and hospitality. Our goal was not only to expand functional storage and workspace, but bring in the southern NOLA appeal that reminds our client so much of home. To do this, we removed the wall between the formal dining room and kitchen to create an extended kitchen that runs the full length of both spaces. The back wall of what used to be the dining room is now the cooking zone for our client: we've relocated her range and microwave, and have created an island full of storage where her children can sit and socialize. We've also lifted up the low ceiling to create a tray ceiling that we have finished with ghostwood. The cabinetry is an off-white color with a hazelnut glaze that offers a more traditional, warm appearance. The island and mini work nook feature dramatic, handmade tin ceiling tiles for a dramatic texture and color. We've finished the space with functional quartz countertops and an arabesque two-toned marble backspalsh. The sinks, faucets and hardware are all in a matte black finish that offer a dramatic pop throughout the space. Little touches of Parisian flair add to this Cajun-French aesthetic and we are so thrilled with the final result!

Built on the site of an abandoned fish packing plant, McKinley Burkart designed and built this mixed-use, multi-family complex that backs onto a waterfront dock. Surfer Chic would be the appropriate way to describe this laid-back residence that features materials like heavy timber and stone throughout the units. Besides luxury condos, the complex also features an oyster bar, spa and a coffee shop amongst tourism offices and other retail shops.

2011 NARI CAPITAL COTY MERIT AWARD WINNER This couple lived in their colonial home in Burke, Virginia, for more than 20 years. Now that their children were grown and gone, it was time for them to pay more attention to their home. First on their list was to renovate their master bathroom. Tight and dysfunctional is how they described the existing space. The homeowners always dreamed of having a whirlpool, a large steam shower and a private toilet area. Importantly, they wanted to use the latest products and materials to bring the bathroom into the 21st Century. Starting with exotic granite and porcelain tile from floor to ceiling, the new design does just that. Then, a highly sophisticated steam shower using granite benches, a heavy glass enclosure, chrome faucets and a rain shower head was installed. Modern body spray heads are embedded in the wall tiles. The shower is complemented by a bubble, jetted whirlpool tub with granite surrounds. A modern double vanity with vessel sinks, a granite countertop, high end cabinets and stylish faucets rest along one wall. Custom-built, recessed mirrored medicine cabinets provide storage for necessities. In the end, the homeowners are thrilled with the outcome and never imagined that their old and dark looking small bath could ever be transformed into such beautiful bathroom.
