One functional challenge was that the home did not have a pantry. MCM closets were historically smaller than the walk-in closets and pantries of today. So, we printed out the home’s floorplan and began sketching ideas. The breakfast area was quite large, and it backed up to the primary bath on one side and it also adjoined the main hallway. We decided to reconfigure the large breakfast area by making part of it into a new walk-in pantry. This gave us the extra space we needed to create a new main hallway, enough space for a spacious walk-in pantry, and finally, we had enough space remaining in the breakfast area to add a cozy built-in walnut dining bench. Above the new dining bench, we designed and incorporated a geometric walnut accent wall to add warmth and texture.

The curved wall in the window side of this dining area creates a large and wide look. While the windows allow natural light to enter and fill the place with brightness and warmth in daytime, and the fireplace and chandelier offers comfort and radiance in a cold night.

White built-ins and traditional wallpaper chosen by the architect is counterpoint to rustic elements. Earthy and elemental materials are selected for the home that reference the barn without directly mimicking it. Wooden members found inside the barn and from other barns bridge ceilings and are used in floors along with rustic slate adding to a sense of simplicity to the farmhouse design.

Inspiration for a mid-sized contemporary brown floor great room remodel in San Francisco with white walls

A bright dining room with lots of natural light in a mountain modern house in Asheville. The room has high windows with great panoramic views. The owners are geologists and have an extensive mineral collection. Creating display cabinets that are integrated into the rooms and highlight the beauty of the minerals was a priority. These minerals and their cabinetry became a driving factor in our design and decision making process and in many cases were a focal point of the architecture and interior design.

Scrolling up to the hero image of this blog post, you were greeted with another view of this stunning formal dining room. This home exudes a style that truly needs to be seen to be appreciated.

Designed with an open floor plan and layered outdoor spaces, the Onaway is a perfect cottage for narrow lakefront lots. The exterior features elements from both the Shingle and Craftsman architectural movements, creating a warm cottage feel. An open main level skillfully disguises this narrow home by using furniture arrangements and low built-ins to define each spaces’ perimeter. Every room has a view to each other as well as a view of the lake. The cottage feel of this home’s exterior is carried inside with a neutral, crisp white, and blue nautical themed palette. The kitchen features natural wood cabinetry and a long island capped by a pub height table with chairs. Above the garage, and separate from the main house, is a series of spaces for plenty of guests to spend the night. The symmetrical bunk room features custom staircases to the top bunks with drawers built in. The best views of the lakefront are found on the master bedrooms private deck, to the rear of the main house. The open floor plan continues downstairs with two large gathering spaces opening up to an outdoor covered patio complete with custom grill pit.

Calligaris' distinctive table designs and dynamic extension systems have the ability to transform a simple table into a striking piece of design. The Omnia table is an excellent example of style and ingenuity. With a very thin, almost fluctuating top and distinctively shaped legs, this table fuses modern appeal with traditional craftsmanship. This versatile table is available in different sizes and combinations. Choose from a wood or ceramic glass table top, as well as fixed or extendible versions.
The Bess Chair pairs perfectly with the Omnia Dining Table, featuring wooden legs, a padded shell, and your choice of either leather or fabric upholstery.
