As I drive from job to job is never ceases to amaze me how uninspiring and even downright unappealing the decks are in new development neighborhoods.
While doing a finish carpentry job in the formal living and dining rooms the homeowner asked me to come outside to get my opinion on his deck. The previous owner of the property invested a great deal of money on a well designed deck but because it was completely close in under the deck the decking had deteriorated. We removed the decking and surround and power-washed the framing, then allowed it to dry completely before installing the new decking. We were careful when removing the decking and were able to save the white vinyl hand railing.
Before installing the new decking we checked and corrected all of the framing for level, plumed all of the posts, and replace all of the rotten stair stringer. We then installed all of the blocking for the new decking perimeter boards and partitions. The decking went on smoothly with a new pneumatic hidden fastener nailer which drives 3" screws into the framing. The stair risers and rim board are in white paint grade vinyl (PGV) to compliment the dark wood tone decking. The overall look of the deck exceeded the homeowners hopes and the price was below budget.
95% of each composite decking board contents recycled and reclaimed plastic and wood fibers. 70% of all the plastic bags recycled in the U.S. are part of an in-store collection program used by TREX.

This color is called 1/4" Dark Granite which features 3 colors of grey + white/black. The floor is finished with a high solids polyaspartic finish to provide a more durable and more slip resistant finish than epoxy. Notice the outside "apron" finished in a solid grey. Flakes installed outside the door will deteriorate in the sun. We use solid polyaspartics on this outdoor apron area.

The owners of a lovely traditional New England home needed to replace an old brick patio that was deteriorating, in part because the roots of a magnificent maple tree were nudging the bricks out of place. They decided to take the opportunity to install a new terrace and garden that would unify their indoor and outdoor spaces while addressing the problem of the tree roots.
Home Outside designer Samantha Anderson created a design for a curving terrace that wraps around the back of the house with two areas for different times of day; the sunny morning terrace has seating that faces outward for coffee and garden viewing, while the evening terrace has a table for summer dining under the shade of the maple tree. Samantha recommended replacing the brick—which didn't complement the red siding—with Goshen stone, which beautifully reflects light and brightens up the whole patio. She enlarged the thresholds to the kitchen and greenhouse and sited the grill right outside the French doors to the dining room.
A large circular bed around the maple gives its roots some breathing room, and the circle is neatly edged with cobble stones. The bed is planted with tough, shade-loving plants such as epimediums, hostas, Aster 'October Skies,' hellebores, evergreen Christmas fern, Carex 'Ice Dance,' ajuga, and variegated Solomon's Seal.

This impressive cedar shake shingle roof, prized for its beauty and sustainability, is located in Shoreline, Washington. Over time, the old cedar shake shingle roof had deteriorated, birds had begun to peck holes in it, and little critters had started to burrow and build nests in the wood. We removed the old cedar shake shingle roof, recycled it, and installed a premium three-quarter hand split cedar shake shingle roof. It’s a beautiful and environmentally friendly wood that comes with a 50-year CCA-treated warranty. The CCA treatment for longevity means the wood is injected with a treatment that prevents insects from growing into the wood which is a very important step. This treatment step is often omitted much of the time on lower quality wood leading to a very short life span of the cedar shake itself.
Three Tree Roofing uses quality wood that will last a very long time. When we install cedar shake shingles, it’s important to use stainless steel fasteners. The reason we use steel fasteners is that the CCA treatment will eat through all other metal fasteners. We use stainless steel so that doesn’t happen. We have an expert roofing crew that specializes in cedar shake shingle installs. It’s a skill that our highly dedicated crew uses every day. If you have any questions about residential or commercial roofing, feel free to contact us for your new roof or give us a call at 206-312-7663 (ROOF)!

When a potential customer takes that first glimpse at a storefront, an initial impression is being formed and expectations are being set. Our work brings the added value that businesses require in order to showcase their products and increase their sales. The striking designs, that we are known for, are specifically created not only to be aesthetically pleasing, but to lure shoppers into your place of business.
Many individual business owners are unaware of the fact that creating the design that a potential customer sees from the street is an exact science when displaying products and constructing an eye catching visual presentation. We also understand that each business that we work with is unique when it comes to the way potential customers perceive that store. If a storefronts appearance is not constructed correctly, a potential customer may immediately dismiss that particular store as “unprofessional” or worse, they might not even register the presence of that store at all when it just blends into the background!
This is the main reason why we pride ourselves so highly on the work that we do for our clients. The professionals at our company understand the complex guidelines that dictate what attracts buyers with a perfect visual approach to a particular design. But, of course, the quality will also need to be superior so that fading and overall deterioration of that design will not become a detriment to the goals of a business owner. This is why we utilize only the best materials and exact construction standards that will allow a store owner’s exterior presentation to be visually pleasing to the eye for years to come.
Whether you need our assistance just to keep your store front from closing improperly or more extensive construction, we’re here to help you with all your business needs when it comes to the visual perception of your store.

The siding on this house was deteriorating, the color was drab, and they had little to no insulation. We completely took off all of the siding, added insulation, and put new siding up. We gave it a fresh coat of white paint with black trim to really make it pop.

The salty sea air and strong winds on the bluff are incredibly hard on the exterior elements of this home. Durability and simple beauty were the main goals for this amazing seaside house and deck!
We replaced the rotting cedar shake roof with a pure zinc standing seam metal roof made by Rheinzink. The deteriorating cedar siding was removed, and after extensive air sealing, was replaced with FSC-certified Ipé siding set on a rainscreen or more Rheinzink in the case of a kitchen bump-out. After the old siding and roofing were replaced we moved on to the replacing the decks and railings with more of the FSC-certified Ipé.
The final result is stunning! With the new beautiful and durable Ipé and zinc surfaces the owners are excited to enjoy their home and deck with little maintenance for years to come.

This project involved refreshing the exterior of this magnificent 100 year plus building smack in the University of Texas area. Columns which were deteriorated were brought back to new condition, refresher coat of Sherwin Williams premium paint and repair and refinish of deck, entry door, wooden side doors, wood railings.

This project involved the removal of an aging wood shower enclosure and surrounding fencing, which had begun to deteriorate and contribute to poor drainage conditions. The existing area retained moisture, creating a muddy, unstable surface that impacted both usability and long-term durability.
The redesigned space introduces a fully upgraded outdoor shower system positioned discreetly behind a new white privacy enclosure. The structure was selected for its clean architectural lines, low-maintenance material, and ability to brighten and modernize the space while maintaining privacy.
A primary focus of the project was drainage correction. The ground plane was regraded and rebuilt using a permeable system consisting of oversized stone slabs set within polished black river rock. This layout allows water to move efficiently through the surface while maintaining a stable, clean, and visually refined finish. The contrast between the large-format slabs and the dark stone creates a structured, intentional foundation that elevates the overall design.
Planting was incorporated with both aesthetic and functional intent. Lavender was installed and trained along the enclosure to soften the structure and introduce seasonal fragrance. In addition to its visual contribution, it serves as a natural pest deterrent, helping to reduce mosquito activity and improve comfort within the space. Supporting plant material was kept minimal and scaled appropriately to maintain a clean, uncluttered environment.
The result is a fully integrated outdoor feature that transforms a previously underperforming area into a functional, durable, and visually cohesive extension of the home. The space now supports consistent use while delivering a refined, spa-like experience aligned with the surrounding landscape.

Nestled on a steep, hard-to-access lot, this home and pool presented unique challenges. The aging pool had tilted more than four inches downhill, and with limited backyard access and a tight budget, a full replacement wasn’t an option. Instead, a creative design solution—one of our specialties—allowed for a seamless repair, featuring a new concrete coping and a vibrant tile accent that revitalized the space.
The outdoor transformation didn’t stop there. The deteriorating decks required a complete rebuild, and the homeowners envisioned a detached art studio tucked into their nature-filled backyard. By embracing the site’s complexities, we crafted a design that connected the elevated outdoor living areas to the pool and studio, creating a cohesive, functional retreat.
Every detail was executed with precision. Linear decking and cable rail demanded meticulous planning, while IPE wood was chosen for its natural beauty and durability. Thoughtful design elements—like the IPE wood cap that unifies the pool’s edge and art studio wall and a horizontal privacy fence that visually expands the space—elevate the project beyond a renovation. This is a space built not just for beauty, but for lasting enjoyment.

This exterior painting project in Bolton, MA focused on revitalizing the home’s appearance while improving long-term protection against the elements. The existing exterior showed signs of wear, including faded paint and minor surface deterioration.
The project included full surface preparation, including cleaning, scraping, sanding, and priming, followed by the application of high-quality exterior paint. Trim, siding, and architectural details were carefully finished to ensure a clean and cohesive look.
Our team maintained a clean and organized work environment throughout the process, delivering a consistent and professional result. The finished exterior provides a fresh, updated appearance with improved curb appeal and long-lasting durability suited for New England weather conditions.

Our client needed help with a safe, simple backyard patio design. The previous deck and landscaping had deteriorated and a new low maintenance style/design was needed. A simple stone patio with a retaining wall to allow for the hilly grade of the property was designed. Lighting, a fire pit and a sail shade make this new space so very inviting and cozy.

Removed rusted / severely deteriorated steel lintels from a vintage multi unit apartment building and installed new steel, flashing and stainless steel drip edge.

The owners hired our real estate business to assist them with the sale of this property. The clients were concerned about getting the right price for their home, so they contacted LB LounsBury Group to begin interior and minor exterior renovations to the property in order to increase its value.
When LB LounsBury Group arrived at the Highfield location, the interior had lathe and plaster throughout, knob-tube wiring and old mechanical systems. The flooring was of original hardwood, the back deck was rotting and the front porch and walkway were deteriorating. After removal of all outdated materials and features, walls were reframed and new electrical systems were added. The original heating method for this property was the use of outdated radiators. We then installed new completely new HVAC system throughout the entire home. We added new sub-flooring, hardwood flooring, baseboard and trim. New glass railings were installed to the staircase and to the front of the house, and we built a new deck in the rear of the property. To give it a fresher look, we poured a new walkway and front steps to the house and completed minor landscaping of the front yard. This project was completed in 45 days, from initial meeting to offer date. Upon completion, the property increased in value by 35%.
