Don't let the name fool you. We took this once drab front yard into the envy of the row home block. We only had a week to complete this front yard project prior to starting a rather large project but finished it all with a bit of Chicago style. This row homes block, consisted of the exact same lot sizes and layout for all the homes. So we were determined to create something a little different so to stand out form the rest of the pack. This project contains a custom designed floating ipe bench wrapped around one of our stand alone self watering planters. inlay Italian porcelain tile surrounded by Mexican pebbles shows the distinct pattern with defining colors and made this Chi-town hustle project a fun one. We also enjoyed collaboration with the homeowners as this space will be enjoyed for many years to come.

We furnished the entire downstairs of our Anne Arundel County client's waterfront home with white plantation shutters - including the sliding patio doors. Shutters are available in different louver sizes. The size of the louver will determine the amount of light, ventilation, and privacy that a room receives, as well as how much of a view you have when your louvers are open at 90 degrees

In this renovation project, in addition to the interior design, we developed the interior architecture and managed the construction process. We changed entrances, altered ceilings, moved walls and determined all interior materials and patterns. Our goal was to replace the dated, “cookie-cutter,” builder-grade condo with the charming architecture of a beach cottage.

Classic Oak Elegance. Arden provides a timeless template with which to define your space. We designed the grain pattern to have just a hint of rustic, but it is still clean enough that you can convincingly use it in a modern setting.
The most important specification for determining the durability of vinyl flooring is the thickness of the wear-layer. The best wear-layers are made of thick, clear virgin PVC, which covers the paper print-film that gives the floor its unique appearance. Once the wear-layer wears through, the paper is damaged and the floor will need replacement.
Most vinyl floors come with a 8-12 mil wear-layer (0.2-3 mm). The top commercial specs in the industry are higher, at 20-22 mil (0.5 mm). A select few manufacturers offer a “super” commercial spec of 28 mil (0.7 mm).
For Modin, we decided to set a new standard: 40 mil (1.0 mm) of premium virgin PVC. This allows us to offer an industry-leading 20 year Commercial Warranty (Lifetime Residential), compared to nearly all other commercial vinyl floors’ 10 year Commercial Warranty.
Beyond our superior wear-layer, we also use a patented click mechanism for superior hold, and a ceramic-bead coating.
SIZE MATTERS
Wider and longer planks create a sense of space and luxury. Most vinyl floors come in 6” or 7” widths, and 36” or 48” lengths.
For Modin, we designed our planks to be 9” wide, and 60” long. This extra large size allows our gorgeous designs to be fully expressed.
DETAILS THAT COUNT
We made sure to get all the details right. Real texture, to create the feel of wire-brushed wood. Low sheen level, to ensure a natural look that wears well over time. 4-sided bevels, to more accurately emulate the look of real planks. When added together they help create the unique look that is Modin.
DESIGNS THAT INSPIRE
We spent nearly a year just focusing on our designs, to ensure they provide the right mix of color and depth. Focusing on timeless wire-brush and European Oak styles, as well as more contemporary modern washes, our collection offers truly beautiful design that is both functional and inspiring.

The client asked us to come up with a plan for the landscaping which included determining the overall grade of the property due to some low areas that did not drain well, as well as some other unique conditions. We constructed a landscape that included bringing in fill to set property grade, brick sidewalks, water feature, firepit/seating area and dry creekbed

Unable to find a bed that suited their taste and the space, the homeowners turned to the design build team to fashion a custom bed and headboard. During construction, the contractor created several sets of mock-ups to help the homeowners visualize how their furniture selections would fit in the space, as well as to determine the desired size and shape of lighting fixtures.

Retired and "vertically-challenged" client required some re-organization to help her access items in her closets. After determining the need to create shorter hanging spaces that were more reachable, we installed the ELFA system in the client's bedroom closet. Due to its adjustability and custom installation, it was the best fit for this space.

This 27 square foot powder room is by far the smallest space in this 3,200 square foot home in Nicasio CA. Where some might restrain themselves from highlighting such a utilitarian space, we elevated this tiny room to one of the most unique spaces in the home. The powder room sits behind a board-formed concrete wall adjacent to the front door of the home. In conjunction with our structural engineer and a master-mason, we developed a way to embed ¾” planks of acrylic into the South facing concrete wall. During the day, the acrylic captures the intense sun (while the concrete keeps the space temperate) creating a vibrant and entirely unexpected light show when one opens the powder room door. From the outside though, the acrylic planks appear simply as dark striations in the concrete. At night though, a timed light inside the bathroom illuminates the backside of the wall and creates a glowing nightlight at the front door.
The constraints of board-formed concrete and the sequencing of this type of construction determined a pattern that could both retain the material integrity of the concrete while pushing its limits. In addition, the requirements for the vertical members of rebar created a staggered pattern that suggests a sense of movement; a theme that is carried throughout the project. After several experimental concrete pours, the final detail turned a typical powder room into a design feature that pushes the limits of material and construction and jolts our preconceptions of what lies behind a simple bathroom door. The wall appears to transform -- from solid to penetrable, from tame to wild, from utilitarian to spectacle, from dark and stoic to light-filled and poetic.

This magnificent home's garden extends beautifully into the front yard. Landscaping ideas such as carefully manicured boxwood hedges, red decomposed granite pathways and surfaces, and bluestone slabs are carried through to the formal entry for a consistently elegant look.
The geometric lines and the proportions determined in the expansive rear and side gardens are established in front yard landscaping, setting the tone from the moment visitors approach the home.
Traditional formal garden elements, including a stone sculpture and spiral-pruned arborvitae, give the front yard landscape its own personality. Photo by Linda Oyama Bryan.
