A young family moving from NYC tackled a lightning fast makeover of their new colonial revival home before the arrival of their second child. The kitchen area was quite spacious but needed a facelift and new layout. Painted cabinetry matched to Benjamin Moore’s Light Pewter is balanced by grey glazed rift oak cabinetry on the island. Shiplap paneling on the island and cabinet lend a slightly contemporary edge. White bronze hardware by Schaub & Co. in a contemporary bar shape offer clean lines with some texture in a warm metallic tone. White Marble countertops in “Alpine Mist” create a harmonious color palette while the pale blue/grey Waterworks backsplash adds a touch of color. For this project we were hired to design the residential interiors and common spaces of this new development in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. This project consists of two small sister buildings located on the same lot; both buildings together have 25,000 s.f of residential space which is divided into 13 large condos. The apartment interiors were given a loft-like feel with an industrial edge by keeping exposed concrete ceilings, wide plank oak flooring, and large open living/kitchen spaces. All hardware, plumbing fixtures and cabinetry are black adding a dramatic accent to the otherwise mostly white spaces; the spaces still feel light and airy due to their ceiling heights and large expansive windows. All of the apartments have some outdoor space, large terraces on the second floor units, balconies on the middle floors and roof decks at the penthouse level. In the lobby we accentuated the overall industrial theme of the building by keeping raw concrete floors; tiling the walls in a concrete-like large vertical tile, cladding the mailroom in Shou Sugi Ban, Japanese charred wood, and using a large blackened steel chandelier to accent the space.

Bedroom - contemporary bedroom idea in Miami

This stunning 4,500 sq/ft one-level penthouse was purchased as a retirement home for a young at heart couple who enjoys featuring their art with the backdrop of the beautiful city skyline. The kitchen and bathrooms were personalized with this client’s taste of clean and modern surfaces, while a third bedroom was converted into a full-size walk-in closet for wardrobe items to be clearly displayed. The specialized art lighting highlights the eclectic art made up of both sculpture and wall pieces. A gorgeous home with an amazing view right in the heart of the city.

Recently winning Gold for 'Best Flooring' at the 2017 House Beautiful Awards, Kährs' Lux collection includes nine one-strip plank format designs in an array of natural colours, which are mirrored in Lumen's three-strip designs. The new surface treatment applied to the designs is non reflective; enhancing the colour and beauty of real wood, whilst giving a silky, yet strong shield against wear and tear. Emanuel Lidberg, Head of Design at Kährs Group, says, “Lux and Lumen have been developed for design-led interiors, with abundant natural light, for example with floor-to-ceiling glazing. Traditional lacquer finishes reflect light which distracts from the floor’s appearance. Our new, ultra-matt finish minimizes reflections so that the wood’s natural grain and tone can be appreciated to the full." The contemporary Lux Collection features nine floors spanning from the milky white "Ash Air" to the earthy, deep-smoked "Oak Terra". Kährs' Lumen Collection offers mirrored three strip and two-strip designs to complement Lux, or offer an alternative interior look. All designs feature a brushed effect, accentuating the natural grain of the wood. All floors feature Kährs' multi-layered construction, with a surface layer of oak or ash. This engineered format is eco-friendly, whilst also making the floors more stable, and ideal for use with underfloor heating systems. Matching accessories, including mouldings, skirting and handmade stairnosing are also available for the new designs.

The design goal of this highly contemporary home was to leave a small footprint and to be 100% lit by natural daylight. 12’ ceilings with wall to wall glass give the illusion of additional space, but made it a challenge when it came to solar heat gain. Integrity’s combination of glazing options and Ultrex pultruded fiberglass helped the home meet the rigorous requirements of LEED Platinum status.
