Shingle Style Overlooking the Beach The site is a prominent one, on a corner lot overlooking the popular Pear Tree Point beach, so privacy was key to designing a comfortable residence for this young family: a home that provided private yard-spaces while retaining lovely water views. A Shingle-Style house with front, side and upper porches and interior spaces that invite leisure was a natural choice for this beachside site. By designing a series of outbuildings – a pool house with guest quarters, a garage and shed – that parallel the road, the pool and backyard entertaining spaces are nicely secluded. Separating the spaces transforms this 5,900 square-foot residence into an intimate and informal home. The buildings are of varying visual textures; the main house is clad in cedar shingle while the vertical board-and-batten of the 900 square-foot garage evokes a barn. The 730 square-foot pool/guest house, constructed of thin ashlar stone layup, matches the stone used throughout the project. ChiChi Ubina Photo

Inspiration for a contemporary beige two-story flat roof remodel in Los Angeles

This is an example of a small rustic screened-in porch design in Atlanta with a roof extension and decking.

The program consists of a detached Guest House with full Kitchen, Living and Dining amenities, Carport and Office Building with attached Main house and Master Bedroom wing. The arrangement of buildings was dictated by the numerous majestic oaks and organized as a procession of spaces leading from the Entry arbor up to the front door. Large covered terraces and arbors were used to extend the interior living spaces out onto the site. All the buildings are clad in Texas limestone with accent bands of Leuders limestone to mimic the local limestone cliffs in the area. Steel was used on the arbors and fences and left to rust. Vertical grain Douglas fir was used on the interior while flagstone and stained concrete floors were used throughout. The flagstone floors extend from the exterior entry arbors into the interior of the Main Living space and out onto the Main house terraces.

Stepping into this bright modern home in Seattle we hope you get a bit of that mid century feel. The kitchen and baths have a flat panel cabinet design to achieve a clean look. Throughout the home we have oak flooring and casing for the windows. Some focal points we are excited for you to see; organic wrought iron custom floating staircase, floating bathroom cabinets, herb garden and grow wall, outdoor pool/hot tub and an elevator for this 3 story home. Design & Supply: Astro Design Centre, Ottawa Canada Photo: JVL Photography We opted for using luxurious materials to add the warmth and glamour synonymous with a more traditional interior. Walnut, marble, brushed nickel and glass were all used to offset simple ivory lacquer cabinetry in the open concept living room. A massive slab of Taj Mahal Quartzite dictated the size of the kitchen island which we kept free of major utilities so that the room would bleed seamlessly into the adjacent living room. The base of the island is natural American walnut. The perimeter of the kitchen houses an industrial range and massive steel hood; which is juxtaposed on a backsplash of mosaic tile. The mosaic is delicate lattice work pattern gently nodding towards the traditional. To add additional depth and dimension to the space we made all the upper cabinetry open glass. The interiors of the glass cabinetry are in the same natural walnut as the island. This unexpected detail is the perfect backdrop to white dishes and crystal stemware. Ultimately the room is elegant and serene.
