The island was designed as a found old table with turned legs and drawers then modified in scope to blend a cupboard, wine rack and open shelves as part of the whole “new” island. Designs such as this derive from the custom cabinetmaker designer at Jaeger & Ernst. Years of building furniture, cabinets and specialty work provide the resources and imagination to move beyond the simple block approach dictated by today’s factory cabinets. To step out of the box, one has to know there are possibilities beyond the box.

The name says it all. This lot was so close to Camelback mountain in Paradise Valley, AZ, that the views would, in essence, be from the front yard. So to capture the views from the interior of the home, we did a "twist" and designed a home where entry was from the back of the lot. The owners had a great interest in European architecture which dictated the old-world style. While the style of the home may speak of centuries past, this home reflects modern Arizona living with spectacular outdoor living spaces and breathtaking views from the pool. Architect: C.P. The clients’ desire was to expand the existing 6-foot deep deck as much as possible. We were able to double the depth to 12 feet. The roof starts to drop away beyond the 12-foot mark and there is a chimney on the other side of the fence that dictated the expansion size. We reused the existing concrete pavers, but installed contrasting darker pavers. Re-mounted existing steel railing, but attached cedar fence to it for privacy from a nearby high-rise building. Installed a direct gas line to the grill. Mounted a rack on the brick wall with an outlet below for a future TV installation HDBros

This space was full of angles, wood, tile, and hard flooring. We needed to add a soft touch to the rooms while incorporating a bright spot and a touch of color. This fabric was the perfect material to create these beautiful draperies from. The deep blue on white pagoda pattern hinted at the homes innate craftsman style, yet subtly whispers a contemporary breath throughout the main floor. We had plenty of wall space above several of the windows where we could have hung the rods quite a bit higher, but opted to hang them at 87" as we wanted all the rods at the same height and the beams above the windows on either side to the fireplace dictated what height that would be.

2016 was an exceptional year for the design team! We were honored to participate in the 2016 DC Design House alongside other notable designers from the area. With a full space to work within the living room, our studio was able to bring modern elements into a traditional home. We didn't let the living room's traditional appeal dictate a conservative design. Instead, we added modern elements, including a 1950s Swedish rug from Doris Leslie Blau and white-lacquered, 1940s-era benches upholstered in a cut-velvet geometric by Schumacher. Simple & Elegant Wall Unit built in Espresso Rift cut Oak, Maple and polished chrome. Rift cut Oak has a very linear grain that telegraphs through a stained finish. I introduced the smooth surface of the Maple to give the eye a rest and the chrome base to accentuate a floating feeling by reflecting the floor. The A/V cabinets are framed in with a continual beveled top that dictates the angles of the floating shelves and crisp crown top. The reveals separating the doors and drawers are repeated and evenly placed in the large TV panel. They playfully mark the placement of the flat TV and echo the matching bar we built a few feet away on the adjacent wall.

Earth, fire, wind and water are elemental to our existence. When asked to create an outdoor shower for a former woodshop-turned-residence, we looked to the elements of nature to construct a bathing space that respects its environment and crafts an experience. We turned to the forest, the boundary upon which the shower is placed, and allowed nature to dictate our material palette. Using wood in many forms, we created a cedar wind and privacy screen, a board formed concrete wall, and tied it all together with a custom-steel framed cordwood. The result is an immersive, sensorial bathing experience within nature.

We were excited by the Maxim Articulating Lamp at Jonathan Adler which acted as an impetus for this room design.
