The program consists of a detached Guest House with full Kitchen, Living and Dining amenities, Carport and Office Building with attached Main house and Master Bedroom wing. The arrangement of buildings was dictated by the numerous majestic oaks and organized as a procession of spaces leading from the Entry arbor up to the front door. Large covered terraces and arbors were used to extend the interior living spaces out onto the site. All the buildings are clad in Texas limestone with accent bands of Leuders limestone to mimic the local limestone cliffs in the area. Steel was used on the arbors and fences and left to rust. Vertical grain Douglas fir was used on the interior while flagstone and stained concrete floors were used throughout. The flagstone floors extend from the exterior entry arbors into the interior of the Main Living space and out onto the Main house terraces.

This space defines the hub of the garden, I placed it in the corner so it is central to the ADU and the dining area/access from the house. The BBQ is now part of the social space. The raised planter and walls all are functions of design but also reflect my solution for the many grading levels on the neighboring perimeter spaces as well as grading within the former space and act to create floating bench and BBQ moments I programmed in. The concrete plinth is for extra seating/food or plant displays.

The Designers for Hope Showcase, which was held on May 14-17, 2015, is a fundraising event to help support the program and mission of House of Hope. Local designers were chosen to transform a riverfront home in De Pere, with the help of DeLeers Construction. The home was then opened up to the public for the unique opportunity to view a distinctively new environment.

Our clients wanted to create a backyard that would grow with their young family as well as with their extended family and friends. Entertaining was a huge priority! This family-focused backyard was designed to equally accommodate play and outdoor living/entertaining. The outdoor living spaces needed to accommodate a large number of people – adults and kids. Urban Oasis designed a deck off the back door so that the kitchen could be 36” height, with a bar along the outside edge at 42” for overflow seating. The interior space is approximate 600 sf and accommodates both a large dining table and a comfortable couch and chair set. The fire pit patio includes a seat wall for overflow seating around the fire feature (which doubles as a retaining wall) with ample room for chairs. The artificial turf lawn is spacious enough to accommodate a trampoline and other childhood favorites. Down the road, this area could be used for bocce or other lawn games. The concept is to leave all spaces large enough to be programmed in different ways as the family’s needs change. A steep slope presents itself to the yard and is a focal point. Planting a variety of colors and textures mixed among a few key existing trees changed this eyesore into a beautifully planted amenity for the property. Jimmy White Photography

Seeking the collective dream of a multigenerational family, this universally designed home responds to the similarities and differences inherent between generations. Sited on the Southeastern shore of Magician Lake, a sand-bottomed pristine lake in southwestern Michigan, this home responds to the owner’s program by creating levels and wings around a central gathering place where panoramic views are enhanced by the homes diagonal orientation engaging multiple views of the water. Hall ON or Hall OFF would turn on and off the Hallway lights. The button “Late Night” however could be programmed to do any number of things (including in this case: Lighting a path to the Kitchen for a Late Night Snack!).

Solid steel wishbone leg This leg is another one from our series of legs cut out of a solid slab of steel on our water jet cnc machine (a big machine that we program on a computer graphics program and then it cuts it according to that plan). We can make it in pretty much any size, flatten out the Y if you want a smaller arch, or make a taller more cathedral looking arch - tons of different metals and finishes to pick from.
