BEFORE
The homeowners waited a long time to renovate their kitchen. They were overwhelmed by all the choices and decisions they had to make. After our meeting we put their worries to rest. We reassured them that we would do our best to create their dream kitchen.
The original 1990’s kitchen desperately needed to be brought into the 21st century.
The homeowners hated the outdated cabinetry, narrow peninsula and overall layout. They wanted a small home office area, but most importantly they wanted a large island with plenty of seating. There was an issue with the width of the kitchen. It was tricky to fit the island in the narrow area without ample space to allow a nice flow around it.
However, we never want to disappoint our customers.
SOLUTION
In order to design a functional layout and give our customers their dream island, we went with shallow pantry units along the kitchen wall. That extra 12” allowed for just enough space for the island. Reworking the layout of the cabinetry on the perimeter of the kitchen opened up a space for a small home office area.
We had to work with the existing radiant heated flooring. Replacing it was out of the question because of the additional costs. The choices of cabinetry and color scheme had to correlate with it. Therefore we selected oak cabinets in driftwood oak finish with warm brushed brass hardware.
According to our customers we checked all the boxes on their dream kitchen wish list.

This master bath remodel is a major lifestyle enhancement for a disabled client. The newly constructed shower was created with numerous Universal Design and Aging in Place features for all three people who use the shower, the client, her husband and the caregiver. Small slip-resistant tiles were selected for the floor and the bench gives the option to sit or stand, to help prevent back strain. The floating bench is also designed for the husband, for present and future use as he grows older.
Non-institutional looking decorative grab bars and shampoo niches are strategically placed at sitting and standing heights for easy reach. A beautiful bay window ledge holds shower supplies and decorative accessories.
The spacious roll-in shower allows the woman to enter on her scooter. Her caregiver can safely transfer her to the shower chair, remove the original scooter from the wet area, and then have the necessary room to maneuver all around the client for comfortable and safe bathing.
A stationary shower head was included, as well as a handheld shower head on a slide bar with it’s own temperature control. The main shower head control is positioned at the front entrance to warm up the water before entering, preventing cold water shock. A heat / vent / light was also added to aid in air quality control.

When clients in Williamsburg, Va. Purchased a brick ranch, built in the late 80’s They knew they were in for a total gut rehab. The kitchen had been updated but consisted of reddish stained oak cabinets, Corian counters, and soffits galore. The room was separated by a peninsula with a cook top, creating a U-shaped configuration. It was not only dated but separated the room from the breakfast area. One wall consisted of wall ovens, a pantry, and a built-in desk space. Although, we were constrained to a tight budget, they specifically requested the house not have a traditional colonial vibe, common to the locality. Once we convinced the husband that it was paramount to remove walls, we were able to reimagine the space. The wall ovens were replaced with a single range, the refrigerator was placed on the same wall as the sink and the soffits were removed. With a tight budget, custom cabinets were not an option. Instead, they purchased stock cabinets that were painted a cool gray and the new island is stained in a natural finish .
Typically, I don’t recycle products amongst clients, but these pendants have proven otherwise. After installing them in my own kitchen, I’ve had 3 other client requests for the same pair. Obviously, they don’t disappoint as they are the crown jewels of the kitchen.

A client from the village of Heytesbury contacted me to see whether we could improve the look of her Victorian tiled hallway floor. It turns out that a competitor had previously cleaned and sealed it two years prior but she was disappointed with the result once she realised that the floor still had dirt ingrained in the tile. As per our normal practice we ran a test clean and she booked us in immediately.
We started by wetting the floor using a strong solution of Tile Doctor Pro-Clean and left it dwell for ten minutes. We then attached a black stripping pad to a rotary machine and slowly covered the whole area to remove ingrained dirt and any existing seals that may be evident. The dirty slurry was then removed with a wet vacuum and then floor rinsed with the aid of a deck brush and a wet vacuum.
Next we used a heavy duty scraper to remove paint splashes around the edges from years of decorating. Once we were satisfied we’d removed all evident dirt, seal and paint we rinsed the floor thoroughly several times to make sure all contaminants are removed again using the wet vacuum to remove the water.
We returned five days later to let the floor dry out thoroughly. Upon our return we tested with a damp meter which tested fine so we proceeded to seal the floor using six coats of Tile Doctor Seal & Go to provide protection and add a nice sheen to the floor which I think you will agree now looks amazing.

Believe it or not, this was one of the cleanest the job was in a long time. The cabin was pretty tiny so not much room left when it was stocked with all of our materaisl that needed cover. But underneath it all, you can see the minimalistic pine bench. I loved how our 2 step finish made all of the grain and color pop without being shiny. Price of steel skyrocketed just before this but still wasn't too bad, especially compared to the stone I had planned before.
Installed the steel plate hearth for the wood stove. Took some hunting but found a minimalistic modern wood stove. Was a little worried when client insisted on wood stove because most are so traditional and dated looking. Love the square edges, straight lines. Wood stove disappears into the black background. Originally I had planned a massive stone gas fireplace and surround and was disappointed when client wanted woodstove. But after redeisign was pretty happy how it turned out. Got that minimal streamlined rustic farmhouse look I was going for.
The cubby holes are for firewood storage. 2 step finish method. 1st coat makes grain and color pop (you should have seen how bland it looked before) and final coat for protection.
