This project is located up on the hillside of Paradise Valley and was built with great view of the valley in mind. We built the home with many floor-to-ceilings and negative-edge pool to capitalize on its great hillside location.
It was a challenging home build because it was located on rock. We used specialized equipment so it would appear the home had settled there naturally without leaving a disruption around the home.

The Challenge
Our client discovered Varenza Design Build at a Home & Remodeling Show. They had been considering a bathroom upgrade for some time, but felt hesitant about the process itself — worried about the disruption and “intrusion” that can come with inviting a remodeling crew into their home. After talking through our process and seeing our work firsthand, they left the show with a clear sense of what to expect and the confidence to move forward. That conversation set the tone for the entire project: a transformation delivered with minimal disruption and maximum care.
The Transformation
We reimagined the space from the studs out, turning a builder-grade bathroom into a true retreat. Key elements of the remodel included:
• A luxurious shower system with body sprays and a rainfall showerhead, setting the tone for the space's spa-like feel
• A striking mix of light and dark tile, adding contrast, depth, and timeless style
• A custom tiled ledge for built-in storage
• A frameless glass shower door to open up and expand the sense of space
• Wood-toned, shaker-style cabinetry paired with modern fixtures
• New vanity mirrors and updated lighting to complete the look

Located in Church Hill, Richmond’s oldest neighborhood, this very early 1900s Victorian had tons of historical details, but the house itself had been neglected (badly!). The home had two major renovation periods – one in 1950’s, and then again in the 1980s’s, which covered over or disrupted the original aesthetics of the house (think open ductwork, framing and drywall obscuring the beautiful mantels and moldings, and the hot water heater taking up valuable kitchen space). Here are some before and after pictures of a kitchen that the customer wanted us to refinish the existing cabinets. We removed the doors and drawers and finished them in our shop while painting all of the cabinets boxes in place. This is a far less disruptive method of refinishing a room and speeds up the time involved in the project not having to install the cabinet boxes.

This project is a great example of how the addition of a well-designed and considered balustrade can vastly improve an existing staircase and landing, without the need to replace or damage any of the already in-situ finishes.
The clients already had a firm idea of the aesthetic they wanted and engaged us to come up with a method to achieve it without creating any disruption to an already finished and painted staircase.
After a detailed survey and studying the structural plans of the building, we were able to fully manufacture and powder-coat everything off-site, and simply bolt on to the existing staircase and landing structure in a single visit. This managed to leave no damage or disruption to the property, meaning no remedial work for our clients after we had finished.
The balustrade itself was manufactured from a mild steel flat bar and welded to a steel channel, which we bolted to the staircase, and a steel angle bracket, which we fixed to the landing. It was all tied together with a continuous thin round steel bar that was drilled through the top of each upright for rigidity, as well as a flat steel handrail to match the uprights. It was then powder-coated matte white to help it blend in with the walls and ceilings.

A partial renovation involved eliminating wall cabinets and replacing them with custom floating shelves to display an impressive collection of cookware and to create a space for a collection of brown liquor. Base cabinets and granite counters were retained to minimize cost and disruption.
