Inspiration for a mid-sized timeless carpeted and beige floor hallway remodel in DC Metro with beige walls

The existing home was deconstructed and salvageable material was reclaimed and donated for reuse. In its place, a custom 4-bedroom, 4.5-bath home was built. The new home incorporates many unique features including the “drive through” two-car garage that allows the homeowners access to the converging streets. The massive first-floor master bedroom suite encompasses a marble surround fireplace, 2 sizeable walk-in-closets as well as his and her luxurious master bathrooms. Two home offices provide the homeowners with ample room to take care of business. An elevator was installed to enable the homeowners and elderly guests to easily and safely access the second floor. Abundant storage areas throughout the home, including the cavernous full basement, offer plenty of space to stow extra belongings.

My oldest daughter, Grace, is a "tween" and asked for her room to be redecorated. Previously it was bright colors of teal, pink and purple walls (which she picked when she was 4....now she is 12). I agreed that it needed a fresh start. Grace wanted her room to be less cluttered and more grown-up. First, she sorted, threw out and donated. Extra items that remained went in new under-the-bed storage containers. Second, I decided to work from her furniture colors. The pieces were purchased in the Netherlands during our time living in Germany. Gradations of "blush" were used throughout the room and in various textures. Next, Grace and I collaborated on selecting draperies, a rug and bedding. A complentary neutral paint color was then chosen. Finishing touches were placed in specific places to provide balance, such as the canvas artwork, which also adds a touch of shimmer. Glass lamps add harmony to the design. Grace is thrilled with her new room! (And with some smart shopping, cost-effecient!)

We met Sawyer Greenfield recently and were getting ready to announce him and his two brothers, Carter Wayne & Peter, as the Savvy Giving by Design - Ozarks (based in Bentonville, Arkansas) next recipient family any day. He's a little fighter and has already had to fight since December of 2018 when he was diagnosed with HLH, a rare severe systemic inflammatory syndrome. Treatment involved chemo (although HLH isn't cancer) and steroids over several months. He was finally given the thumbs up in May to finish treatment and be considered in remission. Then, while not feeling well at the end of June 2019, a routine check of how his blood work was looking turned into a diagnosis of Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. The prior HLH he had been treated for was actually masking the leukemia and when treatment ended it allowed the leukemia to spread quickly. He's now AGAIN facing treatment to fight harder than ever and his family is reeling with the news. There are no words to say how we feel for this amazing family right now!! Our aching hearts are holding on to the fact that Sawyer will be able to enjoy his new room while he goes through all that lies ahead of at least 2 years of treatment. Sawyer loves legos & minecraft so we are busy creating a design plan that blends those hobbies in a room he can grow with. After their Niwot, Colorado, home was inundated with floodwater and mud in the historic 2013 flood, the owners brought their “glass is half full” zest for life to the process of restarting their lives in a modest budget-conscious home. It wouldn’t have been possible without the goodwill of neighbors, friends, strangers, donated services, and their own grit and full engagement in the building process. Water-shed Revival is a 2000 square foot home designed for social engagement, inside-outside living, the joy of cooking, and soaking in the sun and mountain views. The lofty space under the shed roof speaks of farm structures, but with a twist of the modern vis-à-vis clerestory windows and glass walls. Concrete floors act as a passive solar heat sink for a constant sense of thermal comfort, not to mention a relief for muddy pet paw cleanups. Cost-effective structure and material choices, such as corrugated metal and HardiePanel siding, point this home and this couple toward a renewed future.

The inspiration behind this room for our George to the Rescue project was a beautiful, vivacious little girl who loves to perform, describes herself as "not a 'pink' girl," and has been through more in the last few years than any 9-year-old should. This room is now a happy place where she can feel comfortable and inspired. Enter the cherry print. Bright and bubbly, like the young girl herself, the cherries are the perfect centerpiece for this bedroom. New baseboard and trim were added, and bringing the ceiling color (@farrowandball's Cinder Rose!) down to meet the new picture rail moulding gives the room a special, unique feel. Simple furniture with touch-sensor light features in the vanity and side table were donated by the fabulous @homeandkidz Furniture Gallery in Paramus. The white beaded mini chandelier and whimsical multi-hued rug add beautiful texture and movement to the space.

The railing in composed of branches we picked out of a pile downstream of a local beaver dam, they're all nibbled by the beavers. Summer 2014 I've built my boys a tree house! The tree house is big enough to fit 4 campers. 2/3 of the material was scrap wood from other projects or recuperated from the side of the road (windows) and beams from an area barn that was dismantled. A big big thanks to Martin Bouvier de MB Reno-Deco for helping me raise the structure and do the roof! Also a big thanks to my kids grandfather who donated the green rocket slide. It was a crazy mish mosh of pieces and styles. When my clients decided to sell their parent's beloved home the task of making the craziness look welcoming seemed overwhelming but I knew that it was not only do-able but also had the potential to look absolutely amazing. We did a massive, and when I say massive, I mean MASSIVE, decluttering including an estate sale, many donation runs and haulers. Then it was time to use the special pieces I had reserved, along with modern new ones, some repairs and fresh paint here and there to revive this special gem in Willow Glen, CA for a new home owner to love.

This past winter, PTS staff volunteered time at Mercy Street School in West Dallas. To create a safe environment in which to learn, our skilled climbers and tree care staff donated time and effort to take care of a lot of pruning and clean up so that their trees can be healthy and the property safe for all the staff and students. The property has many very large established trees that were much in need of proper pruning and care. By cleaning up the property, we hope to not only help preserve their beautiful trees, but also give the kids a safe place to play and learn. When trees are neglected, especially on a property where there is a lot of traffic such as a school, it is important to properly prune and maintain trees so they don’t become a hazard. Falling limbs damage buildings and could harm passersby. We love supporting our Dallas community and schools!
