This 1950’s mid century ranch had good bones, but was not all that it could be - especially for a family of four. The entrance, bathrooms and mudroom lacked storage space and felt dark and dingy. The main bathroom was transformed back to its original charm with modern updates by moving the tub underneath the window, adding in a double vanity and a built-in laundry hamper and shelves. Casework used satin nickel hardware, handmade tile, and a custom oak vanity with finger pulls instead of hardware to create a neutral, clean bathroom that is still inviting and relaxing. The entry reflects this natural warmth with a custom built-in bench and subtle marbled wallpaper. The combined laundry, mudroom and boy's bath feature an extremely durable watery blue cement tile and more custom oak built-in pieces. Overall, this renovation created a more functional space with a neutral but warm palette and minimalistic details. This home’s noteworthy steel shipping container construction material, offers a streamlined aesthetic and industrial vibe, with sustainable attributes and strength. Recycled shipping containers are fireproof, impervious to water and stronger than traditional building materials. Inside, muscular concrete walls, burnished cedar beams and custom oak cabinetry give the living spaces definition, decorative might, and storage and seating options. Kitchen flows easily into breakfast area, den and outside patio. Cabinetry design includes Brookhaven frameless cabinetry in maple wood with an opaque finish and cherry wood in dark stain with black glaze. Appliances used in this space include (2) refrigerator/freezer units, 60" range, custom wood hood, microwave drawer, trash compactor, dishwasher, refrigerator drawers & wine refrigerator. Countertops are Statuario White Extra Marble in a honed finish.

When this family moved to Lafayette, the objective was to create an inviting living space that combines a relaxed lifestyle with a few sleek elements to reference their past urban life in San Francisco. The color palette was influenced by the lush garden setting and the saturated colors of a summer garden. The kitchen has shades of dark grey, charcoal for its countertops, kithchen island, and cabinets. The charcoal glass backsplash completes the dark look. Equipments, devices and food products are ingeniously hidden behind the charcoal lacquered panels. All the appliances are integrated and the fridge is panel-ready.
