I was honored to work with these homeowners again, now to fully furnish this new magnificent architectural marvel made especially for them by Lake Flato Architects. Creating custom furnishings for this entire home is a project that spanned over a year in careful planning, designing and sourcing while the home was being built and then installing soon thereafter. I embarked on this design challenge with three clear goals in mind. First, create a complete furnished environment that complimented not competed with the architecture. Second, elevate the client’s quality of life by providing beautiful, finely-made, comfortable, easy-care furnishings. Third, provide a visually stunning aesthetic that is minimalist, well-edited, natural, luxurious and certainly one of kind. Ultimately, I feel we succeeded in creating a visual symphony accompaniment to the architecture of this room, enhancing the warmth and livability of the space while keeping high design as the principal focus.

After years of dedication and anticipation, our clients embarked on their dream renovation project as they approached retirement. Their vision? A cozy yet elegant space nestled in the picturesque coastal town of Ipswich, MA. With the help of Betsy at Hutton Home Design, our skilled team, and many trade partners, our client’s vision became a reality. We built them a custom, one-bedroom accessory dwelling unit (ADU) over the garage of their daughter and son-in-law's home. The heating and cooling system consisted of mini split units. We cantilevered the second floor to add space to the kitchen, making the room seem larger. We created a functional and beautiful space within the zoning constraints of 900 square feet. All the while, careful consideration was given to scale and ensuring the addition looked like an extension of the existing home. Small plaster stamps featuring intricate engravings or intaglios were all the rage for tourists of the 18th century. Our example faithfully reproduces the bust of Roman goddess Aurora ussuing from the clouds. This plaster treasure is mounted on muslin, accented with an inner gold filet, matted and placed in a gold-leaf frame. Following the sale of their engineering business and the acquisition of Sisters Airport, the owners embarked on a journey to rejuvenate their beloved sanctuary. Preserving the intimate footprint of their empty nest, the focus was on redefining spaces with practical sophistication. A once-dark entryway was artfully reimagined to introduce light and flow, seamlessly integrating a functional mudroom, laundry amenities, and a welcoming powder room.

Our clients have lived in their Tysons Corner-area home since the 1980s. A small kitchen fire was just the spark they needed to embark on a complete kitchen renovation. We relocated the double ovens and refrigerator on opposite walls near the dining room entrance. This allowed for more uninterrupted counter space, which they lacked in the original footprint. Additionally, we replaced an under-utilized closet with a floor-to-ceiling cabinet pantry. The rolling island offers flexibility -- additional storage and a large workspace for baking. The refinished oak hardwood floors are the perfect balance to the creamy painted cabinetry. Cambria quartz countertop, crackled glass backsplash, and oil rubbed bronze hardware complement the traditional design.
