"BAHIA stool: comfortable, cosy, colourful. A ""bio-inspired, organic shape"" as described by designers Dondoli and Pocci.
The stools feature a shell in polypropylene plastic material, reminiscent of two large, conjoined petals, and the slot where they meet gives the stools a greater sense of harmony and lightness.
Wooden base with 4 tapered legs, with elegant round chrome footrest.
Calligaris: Italian Smart Design since 1923
What does ""smart"" mean for us?
Smart is harmony between technique and aesthetics, between reason and emotion, because each Calligaris piece encloses the know-how of our experienced designers and our creativity applied to contemporary living."

This project was a part of the 2017 Decorators' Showhouse in Columbus, Ohio. Twelve designers each created a room within the Columbus Museum of Art, making this the first showhouse to take place within a museum. Each designer was allowed to use a piece of artwork from the museum's collection in their space.
The intent of this design was to create a contemporary, gender-neutral nursery with touches of mid-century modern style. Mid-century modern design is sleek, simple, functional and bright. Here, the combination of vintage and contemporary furnishings and accessories all come together to create a space that is calm, yet inspires creative play.
The artwork, California Landscape by Stanton Macdonald-Wright, sets this tone. His modern abstract, devoid of illustration uses blocks of color to create space and form. This idea of geometric abstracts is repeated throughout the design of the room. Interesting shapes that can be manipulated with eye or hand are very fitting for a nursery. This is a space where a child can dream and play, grow and learn, and also rest. It is a room that could evolve over time while continuing to inspire a child for many years.
“I strive to divest my work of all anecdote and illustration and to purify it to the point where the emotions of the spectator will be wholly aesthetic, as when listening to good music…”

Incorporating organic-shaped lighting into monochrome interior design is a transformative strategy that adds depth, character, and warmth to spaces that might otherwise feel flat or overly structured.
Monochrome interiors, often defined by their clean lines and uniform tones, can sometimes feel too stark or clinical. Organic-shaped lighting, like the sculptural woven pendants in the coastal kitchen you provided, introduces visual softness and fluidity, gently breaking up the monotony without disrupting the minimalist color story.
Lighting with irregular, nature-inspired forms becomes an instant conversation piece. In a monochromatic setting, where variation is subtle, organic lighting stands out as a focal element, guiding the eye and adding architectural intrigue without the need for bold color contrasts.
Monochrome designs rely heavily on texture to evoke emotion and interest. Organic lighting—especially when crafted from natural materials like rattan, wicker, or woven fibers—adds a tactile dimension that contrasts beautifully with sleek countertops, smooth cabinetry, and polished finishes.
Designers aiming to create serene, grounding environments can use organic lighting to subtly reference the outdoors. The flowing, shell-like shapes in the image evoke the natural rhythm of the sea—perfectly complementing the ocean view. This connection to nature fosters a calming, biophilic effect within even the most curated, color-restricted spaces.
Beyond aesthetics, organic-shaped fixtures often diffuse light in a more gentle, ambient manner due to their irregular forms and natural materials. This soft lighting effect supports the calm, cohesive tone of a monochrome interior while making the space feel more inviting and livable.
For designers striving to balance form, function, and feeling within a limited color range, organic lighting is a powerful tool. It’s not just decorative—it’s atmospheric, sculptural, and emotionally resonant. In short, it’s the poetic contrast every monochrome room needs.

"Jacquard-woven rug with a rectangular shape, made from mixed cotton and chenille yarns with plush effect and featuring a close net of triangles in the shades of sky blue on a light grey background.
The pureness and rigour of classic geometry laws turn into a decorative pattern drawing inspiration from the origami Japanese paper, reinterpreted in a modern twist thanks to the colour palette recounting spaces and times of contemporary living.

Calligaris: Italian Smart Design since 1923
What does ""smart"" mean for us?
Smart is harmony between technique and aesthetics, between reason and emotion, because each Calligaris piece encloses the know-how of our experienced designers and our creativity applied to contemporary living."

“Tropical. Victorian. Gothic.”
This is the vibe my client wanted for the living room in their 1800’s farmhouse, and this is what I delivered. Admittedly though, I had to do a deep dive into inspiration pictures for a general direction, because, what an unusual ask in terms of concept! Ultimately, my goal for this project was a very moody, overly saturated space that evoked emotion and started a conversation.
To start, I specified a heavily textured grasscloth wallcovering in teal and contrasted that with high gloss fuchsia and teal paint to trim out the entire room. This included the doors, fireplace, all window and door casings, and the wall area below the chair rail. Covering the shelter-armed, dramatic tufted sofa in a matching shade of fuchsia velvet is the centerpiece of the whole room and a true “wow” feature. The two French-inspired chairs are covered in a “drippy” teal damask with a contrasting black painted frame, giving a gothic vibe, while the crock embossed leather on the bench is exotic, playing to the tropical element of the space.
Finishing off the space is the eclectic mix of lighting, pillows, and decorative accents used throughout. Although all elements seem to be pulled from different eras and genres, they all speak to each other through finish and scale, adding to the Victorian, eclectic, and collected design of the room.
The color-drenched walls, lush textures, and eclectic accents are dramatic and a little over the top… but what else would you expect in a project that is tropical, Victorian, and gothic?
