THIS TRANSITIONAL KITCHEN AND AND BATH REMODEL IN NORTH ASHEVILLE HAS CLEAN LINES AND A SLEEK LOOK.
HomeSource Builders completed the demolition and subcontracted the installation, under the expert guidance of Project Manager Corey Rogers. A striking feature, he relates, is the tiling installed by Mosaic Custom Tile.
“In my opinion,” he said, “the tile setters really made the kitchen stand out with the clean lines and sleek look the clients were trying to achieve.”
In addition to the backsplash tile, HomeSource installed the kitchen and bathroom cabinets as well as the kitchen and bath quartz countertops.
It’s extraordinarily helpful when clients have well-defined goals. “These clients were ideal, and made my job much easier,” Corey said. “They were very detailed and knew exactly what they wanted.”
Since the clients were renovating all bathrooms in the house, a challenge to overcome was phasing the project so that the client had a working bathroom at all times. This hurdle was easily overcome, though, with skillfully choreographed scheduling.
Designer Christy Dunlap of HomeSource Design Center led the design charge. “Besides the pleasure of working with two delightful people,” she said, “it was great to design a beautiful navy kitchen with walnut accents.”
Subcontractors employed to complete the remodel were French Broad Plumbing, Wired Right Electrical, Mountain Air Mechanical Contractors, Inc., Mosaic Custom Tile, Haywood Appliance, New Image Home Improvement, and Victor Chapina Painting.

This new 1,560 square foot, three bedroom, two bath residence replaces a Paradise, CA home destroyed in the 2018 Camp Fire. The owners wanted an attractive and modest house to live in while they built their dream home on an adjacent lot. The house will later be used as rental income and provide much needed housing in Paradise.
The back of the house faces west towards an excellent view of a stand of oaks that survived the fire. The large rear porch roof provides protection from unwanted glare and the setting summer sun, so the house does not overheat in the summer. The porch also extends the living space and provides excellent year round indoor/outdoor living. It is open framed with rafters so there is an expansive view to the forest and ample diffused daylight throughout the year. It also protects the home from prevailing weather patterns.
The open floor plan provides an outstanding space for entertaining guests with large windows bringing in the outdoors.
Even though the house is built on a sloped lot it is fully barrier free and employs universal design principles throughout including a curbless shower in the Primary Bath.
Several energy efficient materials and methods were used while staying within a modest construction budget. The roof uses a 12” energy heel to allow a consistent insulation blanket in the attic and blown-in blanket (BIB) insulation was used in the walls to provide an R-23 wall assembly, much better than code requirement and better than standard construction. A cool roof, foil backed roof sheathing, heat pump HVAC system, heat pump water heater, and a whole house fan round out the energy efficiency measures of this house.

For their award-winning terrace design, the landscape architects created a relaxing setting using the same materials they employed on their client’s beachfront hideaway (as part of this Dialogue, attendees visit the terrace where they’ll also get a presentation about the beach property). Contrasts in texture and color are carefully arranged. Cedar, weathered to a buff grey, is used throughout for decking and set off in places with borders of dark round stones. The wood is carefully treated so it’s smooth underfoot. Two bow front metal perimeter planters overflow with grasses, which soften the edges. Strategically placed cedar planters with amelanchier, also known as juneberry, are used as a screening device, to frame dramatic views from the apartment and provide some canopy. A single pine, together with the juneberry, provides sculptural interest. All the plants, which are either native or naturalized, weather the harsh winter winds and temperatures. "Revival” implies a retread of an old idea—not our interests at Axis Mundi. So when renovating an 1840s Greek Revival brownstone, subversion was on our minds. The landmarked exterior remains unchanged, as does the residence’s unalterable 19-foot width. Inside, however, a pristine white space forms a backdrop for art by Warhol, Basquiat and Haring, as well as intriguing furnishings drawn from the continuum of modern design—pieces by Dalí and Gaudí, Patrick Naggar and Poltrona Frau, Armani and Versace. The architectural envelope references iconic 20th-century figures and genres: Jean Prouvé-like shutters in the kitchen, an industrial-chic bronze staircase and a ground-floor screen employing cast glass salvaged from Gio Ponti’s 1950s design for Alitalia’s Fifth Avenue showroom (paired with mercury mirror and set within a bronze grid). Unable to resist a bit of our usual wit, Greek allusions appear in a dining room fireplace that reimagines classicism in a contemporary fashion and lampshades that slyly recall the drapery of Greek sculpture.

The Brass Wine Room is part of our Frankford Panel System, but being used as a more elevated application. Fabricated from solid bronze and holding insulated glass, this custom wine room showcases four large bronze and glass doors, each with a strong, custom machined pull. Inside of the wine room are two Collector’s wine storage units with integrated lights. These units showcase the Amuneal’s two standard wine display systems… one employing our custom machined wood wine shelves and one made from alternating diameters of solid brass rods. Using our Collector’s Wine Shelves and introducing a new shelf allowing the wine bottle to lay horizontal with the label visible and facing out.

Do not be deceived by the thin wires; we use taut, aircraft-strength cables that keep the chandelier stable in virtually any weather condition. Please again note the closeup photo of this chandelier, as it is exemplary of the world class quality we are so proud of in our glasswork.

Employing design elements that form distinct spaces was key; making a sleek and sophisticated first impression, the distinguished full height double sided fireplace separates the dining and living room without being overbearing. The impressive kitchen island offers a massive gathering and prep space as the pristine double sided waterfall edge draws your eyes to the center of the room. High-Gloss white cabinets reflect the light beaming from the cosmic panoramic door, framed in stately black compliments the living room’s acoustic slate wall. Matte and gloss glass tile randomly placed for texture flank the kitchen walls injecting the perfect balance of pattern and color in this show stealing L-shaped kitchen.

www.abedward.com | (847) 827-1605 -- Since 2003 A.B. Edward has an unblemished A+ Better Business Bureau rating, an Angie’s List Super Service Award Company, and also delivers top industry leading products such as GAF, James Hardie Siding Products, Pella Windows and Doors, DaVinci Roofscapes, Mastic Exterior Siding and more. Today, the family-owned and operated business proudly employs more than 30 people, and our services go well beyond roofing to include, masonry, insulation, decks, exterior painting, stucco, carpentry and more.

THE SETUP
This project was a natural extension of a nearby kitchen remodel, emphasizing seamless integration and enhanced functionality. By removing the wall between the kitchen and dining room, we transformed a previously underutilized space into a central hub for both daily living and vibrant social gatherings. This transformation capitalized on the dining room’s potential, turning it from a cluttered storage area to a key entertaining space.
Design Objectives:
Foster an open-air design that harmonizes with the adjacent kitchen, enhancing the flow of both spaces.
Infuse the dining room with design elements that reflect the client’s dynamic personality and make it ideal for large gatherings.
Integrate a multifunctional wet bar to elevate the room’s utility and entertainment capacity.
Design Challenges:
Rerouting necessary HVAC ductwork due to the removal of the wall shared with the kitchen.
Relocating essential appliances such as a fridge/freezer and double oven without compromising the room’s aesthetic.
Incorporating bar-specific appliances in a way that avoids a commercial appearance.
Retaining the client’s large, marble dining table while maintaining a cohesive design that aligns with the new kitchen aesthetics.
Introducing plumbing into a space previously devoid of such infrastructure.
THE RENEWED SPACE
Design Solutions:
Added a secondary HVAC unit on the upper floor and adjusted the ductwork to accommodate the open layout.
Strategically relocated the fridge/freezer to a more functional location in the kitchen and substituted the double oven with an oven/steam oven combination, placed near the kitchen for accessibility yet distanced from heavy traffic areas.
Employed wood paneling extensively along the new bar/appliance wall, concealing most appliances while tastefully displaying essential ones. The wall now features a sophisticated ensemble of a wine dispenser, wine fridge, ice maker, refrigerator drawers, and the new oven duo.
Meticulously designed the bar/appliance wall to parallel the large marble dining table, ensuring it complemented the table’s grandeur while enhancing functionality. The wall is not only aesthetically aligned with the kitchen’s new look but also offers ample counter space to support dining and social activities at the table.
Installed new plumbing lines to support the wet bar and sink installation, ensuring all new fixtures were fully operational and aesthetically integrated into the design without disrupting the room’s overall style.
The new dining room/wet bar has quickly become the centerpiece of the home, captivating guests upon entry and drawing them into its stylish and inviting ambiance. Designed for versatility, it excels in hosting both intimate dinners and large-scale gatherings. The client is thrilled with this transformation, which not only meets but surpasses her expectations for a space that combines everyday functionality with exceptional hosting capabilities.

Onsite rainwater capture has become an issue of ever-increasing importance in semi-arid California, particularly as we realize the need to conserve water on a ongoing basis. This project employs the use of rainwater infiltration by diverting existing downspouts into a dry creek. Instead of being diverted into the storm drain system and wasted, the water is recharged back into the ground. Soils are able to hold the moisture and plant watering needs decrease. In addition to being functional, rock features such as dry creeks contribute to the aesthetic and create a beautiful contrast to the plant material.

I assisted the homeowners with all of their material and fixture choices while employed at Corvallis Custom Kitchens and Baths.
This mid-century modern home had a closed off and dated kitchen when our clients purchased this home. The homeowners wanted to open up the kitchen to the living room and dining room and remove the galley kitchen. They love mid-century modern styling and chose cabinetry to match the existing original cabinetry. We updated the pulls to add some clean, modern flair to the simple cabinetry. The unique ceiling-mounted vent hood kept the view into the living room unobstructed. To complete the transformation, LVT flooring from Karndean was installed in the kitchen, dining area and living room.

This residence for a young woman in the fashion industry consists of a new 2,400 square foot two story home on a steeply sloping site in the Hollywood Hills. Built on the existing one story home’s footprint, the new home’s second floor deck and upper roof deck provide uninterrupted 170 degree views south from the Santa Monica Bay to the Griffith Observatory. The rear yard consists exclusively of a 1,400 square foot multi-level deck incorporating trellised areas, an outdoor kitchen and a Japanese soaking tub on a raised plinth. A series of sliding exterior composite wood and steel screens help shade the extensive expanse of sliding glass doors on the west facade helping to protect the interiors from the intense late afternoon sunlight while still allowing the house to open up and integrate inside with outside.
The exterior surfaces employ a balanced palette of smooth stucco, recycled timber from the original house, composite wood cladding and a subtly striated vertical cement board composition in varying widths.

Maximum Interior Doors in Wenge color have a noble classical look, yet would be a perfect addition to different kinds of Interior. Thin layers of a natural wood veneer are carefully placed on a core. This type of finish is the most environmentally friendly and easily restored. Moreover, the Collection combines the balance of reasonable price and excellent quality. Aluminum moldings are also employed in this line to add some unique accent to the series.
