This Mod Nursery was designed to inspire joy and creative play in the daylight hours with plenty of soft spaces to encourage quiet coziness in the sleepy time hours. The sunny yellow walls provide a cheerful foundation for etsy artwork in crisp white frames. A bold and bright animal printed fabric was selected for the drapery and blackout lining was added to ensure room darkness when needed. The gunmetal finished open shelves (secured to the wall as a safety measure) house toys, books and baby supplies. The Oeuf crib and portable changing table were the perfect solution for this small space. A sheep skin layered over a chevron area rug adds a dimension of graphic boldness to the room. An electric blue pouf adds a great pop of color and functions as both foot stool and play prop. We at Jennifer Gardner Design have great hope that this room will inspire beautiful childhood memories and the happiest of dreams!

The site is located on the Mitchell House preparatory school campus in Polokwane. The client's brief
called for an early childhood development centre which would accommodate 122 learners and
requested that the building be evident of it's young and playful users.
Curiosity, wonder and intrigue would become defining criteria in an attempt to create a conducive
learning environment for young learners to grow, a building where children would be encouraged to
interact with their environment. The construction methodology of the building would remain apparent,
allowing its users to analyse the assembly of components.
Due to the age group of the users, the building would need to function semi-autonomously from the
rest of the school, while allowing for controlled interaction and inclusivity as is the norm for Mitchell
House. A linear plan which coincides with the developmental progress of the learners was identified
as the appropriate building typology. The spatial constraints of the site required this plan to be
moulded into the available space between the existing infrastructure, however the linear process was
maintained.
From the access-controlled reception and administration area one would move past the creative arts
and exhibition space towards the Northern wing where the youngest learners are taught. These would
share connected ablutions and storerooms between classes to enable fluid movement and
assistance throughout the teaching and service spaces. The East wing of the centre would house the
elder learners who would be in the process of being integrated with the fabric of the main school
campus. These classrooms include storage areas, however, have separate ablution facilities. The two
wings of the building surround a courtyard where play and interaction are in abundance.

The exquisite transformation of the kitchen in Silo Point Luxury Condominiums is a masterpiece of refinement—a testament to elegant design and optimized spatial planning.
Jeanine Turner, the creative force behind Turner Design Firm, skillfully orchestrated this renovation with a clear vision—to harness and amplify the breathtaking views that the condominium's generous glass expanses offer from the open floor plan.
Central to the renovation's success was the decisive removal of the walls that previously enclosed the refrigerator. This bold move radically enhanced the flow of the space, allowing for an uninterrupted visual connection from the kitchen through to the plush lounge and elegant dining area, and culminating in an awe-inspiring, unobstructed view of the harbor through the stately full-height windows.
A testament to the renovation's meticulous attention to detail, the selection of the quartzite countertops resulted from an extensive and discerning search. Creating the centerpiece of the renovation, these breathtaking countertops stand out as a dazzling focal point amidst the kitchen's chic interiors, their natural beauty and resilience matching the aesthetic and functional needs of this sophisticated culinary setting.
This redefined kitchen now boasts a seamless balance of form and function. The new design elegantly delineates the area into four distinct yet harmonious zones. The high-performance kitchen area is a chef's dream, with top-of-the-line appliances and ample workspace. Adjacent to it lies the inviting lounge, furnished with plush seating that encourages relaxation and conversation. The elegant dining space beckons with its sophisticated ambiance, while the charming coffee nook provides a serene escape for savoring a morning espresso or a peaceful afternoon read.
Turner Design Firm's team member, Tessea McCrary, collaborated closely with the clients, ensuring the furniture selections echoed the homeowners' tastes and preferences, resulting in a living space that feels both luxurious and inviting.

The child in all of us loves natural swim ponds. This photo was published originally by a homeowner who wrote an Aquascape Inc. blog “Growing Up Around a Pond.” She captured her son in the photo encouraging a friend to join him in the pond.
A Note on Recreational Pond Maintenance
Eco-friendly recreational ponds require expertise to create a natural swimming environment to be enjoyed much like swimming holes were in years past. It takes, for example, the correct underlayment, liner, Biofalls (from Aquascape Inc.), bog filtration, as well as the ideal water plants.
As Aquascape said on Facebook, “The proper amount of filtration and aeration is included in the installation so that maintenance is kept to a minimum.”

Eichler X-100 Office: A Workspace Designed for Clarity and Inspiration
The office in the Eichler X-100 is a study in focus, light, and intentional simplicity—a space where work and design exist in perfect balance. Conceived by A. Quincy Jones and Frederick Emmons for Joseph Eichler, it reflects the same forward-thinking philosophy found throughout the home: that environment shapes how we think, create, and live.
A Place for Focus
Unlike traditional enclosed offices, the X-100 workspace is designed to feel open yet controlled. Clean lines and minimal visual clutter allow for uninterrupted concentration, while the architecture quietly frames the experience.
It’s a space that encourages productivity without pressure.
Light That Enhances, Not Distracts
Natural light plays a central role in the office’s atmosphere:
Skylights introduce soft, diffused daylight from above
Glazing provides visual connection without overwhelming the space
Light shifts gently throughout the day, keeping the environment dynamic yet calm
The result is a workspace that feels energized but never harsh.
Connected, Yet Private
Positioned within the home’s thoughtful layout, the office maintains a sense of separation from main living areas while still feeling connected. Views toward interior gardens or adjacent spaces provide visual depth without sacrificing focus.
You’re part of the home—but in your own zone.
Architecture as Backdrop
Subtle structural elements—such as exposed steel and clean geometric lines—serve as a quiet backdrop, reinforcing the modernist language without dominating the space.
Everything is intentional. Nothing is excessive.
A Forward-Thinking Workspace
Long before “work-from-home” became the norm, the X-100 anticipated the need for spaces that could support both professional and personal life. The office is flexible, adaptable, and integrated—perfectly aligned with how we live today.
Where Ideas Take Shape
The Eichler X-100 office is more than a functional room—it’s a creative environment, shaped by light, proportion, and connection to nature.
It’s a place where ideas can form, evolve, and take shape—within a home that was designed to do exactly that.
In the X-100, even work becomes part of the architectural experience—proving that great design doesn’t just support living, it elevates thinking. Image Sabrina Huang

There is always an easy way out. A simple, uninteresting solution that neither challenges nor engages the mind or the soul. The 50s rambler is a simple structure that lacks character and charm. Its greatest contribution to architecture was the single floor living concept. We came to this project because the homeowners believed their home had the potential to be something more and had invested their time and creativity into developing ideas for what it could become. We embraced the opportunity to collaborate with the homeowner to create a home that was unique, thoughtful, customized for their use, and cared for.
The curved exterior shell of this addition wraps around to accommodate a screen porch under a lifted peak. Inside, the new kitchen follows the curve with custom cabinets and honed granite creating a dynamite space for a chef. Shade tree, bamboo and honed slate flooring weave the living room, dining room, bathroom and kitchen together. Walls jog and jump with color and dimension.
One of the major challenges was to ensure that the space could accommodate large family gatherings of 12 – 16 people yet still feel intimate and comfortable for two people when guests were not present. As you move through the home you will notice that none of the spaces feel cavernous or restrictive. Careful attention was paid to mapping out the space to create areas that were cozy and appropriate while taking traffic patterns into consideration. The dining room entrances are staggered which creates the illusion of two separate spaces. The warm red halogen lights further encourage a sense of scale. One can easily extend the dining room table to accommodate a large crowd without causing guests to feel uncomfortable or confined.
The use of color is an often noted feature in our projects. Our philosophy is that the selection of color for the walls is as important as the selection of all the other materials. Color influences everything we do and gives us direction for how to feel, where to go, where to stop, and how to interact. It is the binding component between all the elements in a design. It bends, bounces, twists, manipulates light and the eye, and is required to fully develop and design a space.
This project was an exciting and rewarding challenge, and we are grateful to the homeowners for asking us to be a part of it and to opening up their home to the public. We hope that you will enjoy your time visiting this remarkably transformed home.

Santa Monica Modern is a stunning single family residence perched atop a hill overlooking Santa Monica Bay. Featuring All Weather custom aluminum windows and doors throughout, this gorgeous project was a recipient of a 2024 AIA Los Angeles Residential Architecture Award, which exemplifies the highest standards of design excellence, creative execution, and transformative impact on urban landscapes.
Designed by Dimster Architecture, the 3 bedroom, 5 bath, 3,550 sq. ft. Santa Monica Modern residence sits on a 7,200 sq. ft. corner lot and stands out for its meticulous attention to detail and elegant curvature of its designs. An L-shaped scheme maximizes privacy towards the streets while exposing the interior to the garden and afternoon sun, encouraging indoor/outdoor living. The building mass is divided between two separate structures and is both articulated and accentuated with curved carvings.
The sunken living room features 10-foot tall All Weather Series 8100 multi slide doors in stacking and pocketing configurations on two sides for a pavilion feeling and serves as both passive cooling and a direct connection to the yard and pool. By combining the kitchen, dining room and den, the home offers flexible spaces for entertaining, meditation, work and hobbies and the potential for future multi-generational living.
A simple stair, concealed behind an open screen, leads to the second floor. The master suite spans the building’s width, while other bedrooms enjoy unique treetop views and expansive daylighting with All Weather Series 6000 operable and fixed windows.
Throughout the house, a cohesive and calming palette of materials and textures, the natural wood siding, and the beige concrete block wall adds an unconventional element and completes the concept.

The foyer continues with a hall table, a fun piece of contemporary art and simple greens keeping the space open and encouraging you to continue into the living spaces of the home.
