We titled this project Fortitude as a description of the incredible couple to whom it belongs. In August 2016 a large area of the state was devastated by a flood that shattered records not reached in over 30 years. This home was one of the many affected. After having to endure less than professional contractors and a some medical emergencies. the couple completed the project three years later. The beautiful images you see today are a testament to their extreme fortitude and perseverance amid trying circumstances. To those who never give up hope, the results are sweeter than you can imagine.

This kitchen remodeling project in Woodbridge, is part of a whole house remodel Kitchen and Bath Shop did recently. In this kitchen, we used quartz countertops, a farmhouse sink, open shelves, and white, long-endurance cabinets made in the U.S.A. by WellKraft Cabinetry.

When Tom and Michelle Stien decided to remodel their kitchen, they chose Advance Design Studio to make it happen. They were looking for an innovative design that would open up an awkward wall, and we're hoping to remove some half walls that closed off their family room. "Of all the people we had come and give us quotes for our project, ADS/Scott, was the only one who came in with an idea right off the bat for what we could do. His knowledge of design and code was evident from the start," said the Stiens. The new design increased the seating area with a large peninsula, and the cooking area was expanded to accommodate Tom's cooking skills. A warming drawer was incorporated beneath a nearly hidden microwave drawer, along with a clever pull out for increased pantry storage. A built in message board area was custom designed for kids art and family communication. Roll out trays grace every base cabinet for easy pull out storage and a single floating shelf ties the contemporary kitchen design together. Starlight quartz countertops create ease of clean up, and the look is finished off with sharp gray and white mosaic backsplash tiles. The Stiens really liked a clean modern look, so the new crisp transitional kitchen design incorporated bright white shaker cabinetry from Medallion with gray and metal accents along with a modern feel. "Scott's presentation of what we could expect with ADS was clear and concise. He gave us a great deal of confidence in how the project would be handled". Homeowners are frequently concerned about project budgets that get quickly get out of control. "Scott's quote was well thought out, organized and offered options based on our budget," said Michelle. "I was worried about the project budget changing as we went through the process, but they did a good job managing the situation and minimized change orders as much as possible." When asked about their overall experience with their kitchen renovation he Stien's said; "Scott, Justin, Matt and Jason were great! They were all very friendly, personable, responsible and trustworthy. Advance Design definitely met and exceeded our expectations. Remodeling is a very challenging process to endure, but ADS minimized discomfort and inconvenience as much as possible and kept on schedule. With its enduring architectural lines, our Bingham Bath Collection makes a structural statement in any bath. Inspired by the St. John's Bridge in our very own Portland, this uniquely engineered look fits cohesively in any classic or contemporary environment.

Filled with symbolic shapes, this living room is a room with meaning. The Gothic arch is an adaptation of the rounded arch, modified during the renaissance period, now as a shape that points towards heaven and to God. We made a round, velvet upholstered ottoman with quatrefoil cut outs. The circle is an endless line, having no beginning and no end, which symbolizes the eternity of God.The quatrefoil symbolizes the four evangelists of the Bible: Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. The accent table is made of iron, hand forged in our iron shop, and stone. Iron is one of the elements that represents immutability and rigid strength; stone was used in temples for its enduring, solid strength. Stones were used to build alters anywhere one happened to experience a strong spiritual encounter. Soft lighting was achieved by creating a light feature. We built a piece that has art work, finished in our art department, of the apostles and over fifty lighted, hand dripped candles that can be dimmed to set the ambiance of the room. Carved on the front of the piece, as a blessing to the reader, is a portion of Numbers 6:25 "May the LORD make His face shine upon you, And be gracious unto you." To showcase treasured pieces we made a three piece armoire, three representing the Trinity, with hand forged iron insets in the doors. As our colors, we chose gold and red. Gold symbolizes the refinement of the Spirit, royalty and transcendence. Red speaks of the sacrifice given for us. Above the ceiling is painted as a dark sky with the Jerusalem cross. This Jerusalem cross represents Christ's command to spread the Gospel around the world, a mission that started in Jerusalem. It was part of the coat of arms of the short-lived Jerusalem Kingdom (1099-1203 AD). Our choice of dark colors as the background was intentional as it represents the dark sky on Good Friday.
