Daniel Contelmo Architects
Westchester Whimsy
This project was a two phase addition to a simple colonial house in Chappaqua, NY. Challenges for Daniel Contelmo included the hilly site, as well as the fact that the front entry lacked presence and the garage was the primary entry. Phase one added a family room, kitchen and breakfast room to the main level, and renovated a bedroom. New overhangs and brackets draw the eye away from the garage and place the focus on the house. Phase two completed the renovation and added space to the front of the house; this was an opportunity to add character to the bedrooms with a turret, and a vaulted ceiling in the bedroom over the entry. A new car pulloff allows visitors to view the front door rather than the garage. An open-air pool cabana with an outdoor fireplace and kitchen serves as a space for year-round activities. The final product was an exquisitely detailed and tastefully decorated home that integrates colonial and shingle style architecture with whimsical touches that give the house a more animated feel.

Think Outside Gardens
This walled Woollahra courtyard garden was built as an entry to a recently renovated house but also as a private relaxation space.
Through a laser cut corten steel entry gate you get glimpses of a private oasis beyond. Its rich warm brown colour is perfectly matched with the new spotted gum decking on the porch and the feature downlight by the front door. Soft gravel and steeping stones outside and through the gate draw the visitor in adding a soft and organic feel. Three steps lead to a generous deck wrapping around a corner to reveal more space for entertaining and an outdoor lounge.
Planted here is some Boston ivy that will grow up the wall and further green up the space creating a seasonal element with its autumn leaves.
An eclectic and varied planting palette of different leaf shapes and colours creates texture and stands out against the white walls. Plants were also chosen for their hardiness and low maintenance requirements.
Two Olives planted within the gravel provide a light canopy and a frangipani near the lounge will be great to sit under as it grows taller over the years.
The resulting garden is not only a lovely entry for the residents and their visitors but also a spot where they can sit and relax.

Ziegler Doors Inc.
This modern style home built by Rodeo Homes in Emerald Bay near Los Angeles CA was accentuate with Ziegler custom wood garage doors and front entry systems made from solid Mahogany. This rich hardwood garage door combined with dark bronze laminate glass is the perfect way to accentuate this home that from street level is made up predominately of garage doors. The use of glass breaks up the monotony of solid wood as well as creating the illusion of more space. Perhaps the greets advantage of using a glass garage door concept is the addition of natural light into the homes garage.
Designing modern garage doors requires keeping in mind the basics of modern architecture. A rich complimentary stain was selected to enhance the natural grain and color of the mahogany. Combining the design of your entry doors and garage doors as a single-time project can prove to be efficient or at least using the same company. In this way, the design transfer from one to the other is swift, elegant and true to the original design concept. Avoid using two different companies when possible. Fortunately, Ziegler Garage Door specializes in designing modern garage doors and front door systems. Contact us today and see what the difference is when you're not limited to selecting designs from a pre-established brochure. Our best designs are usually a collaboration from our client’s unique requests.

Structure Home
4,945 square foot two-story home, 6 bedrooms, 5 and ½ bathroom plus a secondary family room/teen room. The challenge for the design team of this beautiful New England Traditional home in Brentwood was to find the optimal design for a property with unique topography, the natural contour of this property has 12 feet of elevation fall from the front to the back of the property. Inspired by our client’s goal to create direct connection between the interior living areas and the exterior living spaces/gardens, the solution came with a gradual stepping down of the home design across the largest expanse of the property. With smaller incremental steps from the front property line to the entry door, an additional step down from the entry foyer, additional steps down from a raised exterior loggia and dining area to a slightly elevated lawn and pool area. This subtle approach accomplished a wonderful and fairly undetectable transition which presented a view of the yard immediately upon entry to the home with an expansive experience as one progresses to the rear family great room and morning room…both overlooking and making direct connection to a lush and magnificent yard. In addition, the steps down within the home created higher ceilings and expansive glass onto the yard area beyond the back of the structure. As you will see in the photographs of this home, the family area has a wonderful quality that really sets this home apart…a space that is grand and open, yet warm and comforting. A nice mixture of traditional Cape Cod, with some contemporary accents and a bold use of color…make this new home a bright, fun and comforting environment we are all very proud of. The design team for this home was Architect: P2 Design and Jill Wolff Interiors. Jill Wolff specified the interior finishes as well as furnishings, artwork and accessories.
