The goal of this kitchen remodel was to create a more functional and enlarged kitchen because the owner is an avid cook. Expanding the available space for the kitchen involved moving the patio doors to the family room to access the backyard under a newly constructed porch roof. The owners stand at different heights and the goal of the overall kitchen design was to be a comfortable workspace for all the residents. They opted to eliminate upper cabinets, since they are hard to reach and instead incorporate tall pantry-style cabinets at the north wall, complete with a very important breakfast coffee, smoothie, and juice station that is "hidden" behind tuck-away doors. Every inch of the kitchen was considered to store all their essentials, including a designated spot for a step-stool. This kitchen design also incorporates double dishwashers. This self-described style is New Traditional with a West coast cool-casual with some east coast English antiques and that are reflected in the home elsewhere, The home also reflected a slightly French design style, so Factor Design Build aimed for a clean, classic, and timeless look with a custom Venetian plaster hood, Quartzite countertops, and inset cabinets. The view to the backyard was enhanced by flanking the hood with large windows. The clients felt that it was important that most-touched items be high-quality and unlacquered metal, so the cabinet hardware is by Ashley Norton, and the plumbing fixtures from Waterworks. The clients had a special affinity for the Chamonix quartzite for the countertops and splash.

We added paneling to the walls, archway, door frames, and around the fireplace for a special and unique look throughout the home. To create the entry with convenient built-in shoe storage and bench, we cut an alcove an existing to hallway. The deep-silled windows in the kitchen provided the perfect place for an eating area, which we outfitted with shelving for additional storage. Anchored by the red oak hardwood floor inlayed with mahogany that runs throughout the house, this bright and open kitchen has gray granite counters and white shaker cabinets with chrome knobs and cup pulls. The microwave and oven set into the wall give the room and clean, modern and distinctive look. The kitchen’s peninsula separates the prep and eating areas. This kitchen also has an office nook, with a custom built-in desk. What started as an addition project turned into a full house remodel in this Modern Craftsman home in Narberth, PA. The addition included the creation of a sitting room, family room, mudroom and third floor. As we moved to the rest of the home, we designed and built a custom staircase to connect the family room to the existing kitchen. We laid red oak flooring with a mahogany inlay throughout house. The large shower has white Carrera marble subway tiled walls, gray marble basketweave tile floor, and a luxurious oil rubbed bronze rainfall shower head. The two vanities are made of solid cherry wood and are topped with a blue-gray quartzite. French gold and oil rubbed bronze fixtures add a warm and polished detail. The bathroom’s window seat is special spot, providing extra storage and lots of light. Entering the back yard is like entering an English garden. To ensure a seamless look between the original new parts of the house, we built the covered patio using the same German schist stone and timber framed stucco. Further, the stone’s pointing matches the original historic stone, and we used a gray grout for a weathered, aged look. The space is finished off with spiraled lattice iron works and all slate roof. At the end of the roof is an open truss timber frame in a cathedral design. Copper flashing at the joints protects the wood from water sitting in the spaces and eventually rotting the joints. The patio itself features a flagstone floor, built in gas grill, and the other side of the Rumford fireplace found in the family room. This colonial home in Penn Valley, PA, needed a complete interior renovation. Working closely with the owners, we renovated all three floors plus the basement. Now the house is bright and light, featuring open layouts, loads of natural light, and a clean design maximizing family living areas.
