The mahogany newel posts and handrails was a perfect contrast material to use to go along with the reclaimed oak flooring. The stair tread lights finished the space off perfectly.

The experiences and lessons learned in building some of the most exclusive projects in Northern Virginia, while creating an industry benchmark in customer satisfaction, helped create the foundation upon which Fisher Custom Homes was established. In 2010, Rob decided to turn his passion for building homes into a personal business, and Fisher Custom Homes was born. An excellent example of complimenting an already existing structure. This beautiful Rich Sequoia attached DIY pergola kit is attached to the top of the pre-existing timber railing posts and —by all appearances— one would think the deck and pergola were the same structure, built at the same time. The pergola covers an outdoor kitchen and dining area and features the integrated power posts wherein the power lines run through the length of the posts —fully protected and pre-wired for convenience.

When a Historic District home was renovated in Fort Myers, a dream kitchen was created: open plan enough for gathering, with clearly delineated areas for cooking, reading and entertaining. Challenge Bill and Alison’s existing kitchen was small and dysfunctional. Each room seemed independent, and there was no flow through the house. The house felt small, with one entry and exit point. As a planning consultant, Bill was no stranger to construction. He was a general contractor himself and had built several custom homes in years past. As a gardening enthusiast and professional educator, Alison also had an eye for design. They started with design, layout and planning on their own, but soon realized they needed help. After interviewing several contractors who seemed overwhelmed and unenthused by their project, they reached out to Progressive Design Build. Solution Mike was not only enthused about the project, but he established trust with Bill and Alison. Within a few short weeks he was hired to begin the planning phase, conducting thorough research on the project, meeting key subcontractors and establishing a realistic budget. When the project began, internal walls were removed to open up the kitchen/dining areas and an island was built, giving the space an open and modern functionality. The eating area was enlarged, and a visual connection to the outside was established using Marvin insulated glass windows with Low E coatings—which rejects solar heat gain without reducing visible light passing through the glass. In order to allow for the open concept layout that Bill and Alison desired, we built new structural beams to transfer the live load. The sliding patio doors opened onto a small terrace with a wrought iron handrail creating access to the private courtyard and garden area. Finishing details included custom cherry cabinets and wood trimming, 16” x 32” natural stone flooring, granite countertops and historically correct plaster finishes. Result The project was completed within budget and two weeks ahead of schedule. “That planning phase was the best money we spent on the project,” exclaimed Bill. “It was incredibly gratifying being able to watch the subcontractors and suppliers come and go with shared leadership and attention to details.”

Bridle Path Residence — Luxury Wellness Bathroom & Hydrotherapy Suite This Bridle Path Residence bathroom is conceived as a private hydrotherapy retreat, bringing a resort-like wellness experience into the home while maintaining the architectural detailing and craftsmanship of the residence. The design is less about creating a conventional bathroom and more about establishing a dedicated space for relaxation, recovery, and ritual. The hydrotherapy tub becomes the central sculptural element of the room. Its generous curved profile creates a soft, organic focal point against the highly detailed wall treatment, while the integrated jets and ergonomic form emphasize the room's wellness-driven purpose. Positioning the tub within the main architectural composition gives it the presence of a luxury amenity rather than treating it as a standard fixture. The walls are enveloped in a small-format decorative mosaic with an intricate, almost textile-like pattern. This repeated surface creates remarkable visual depth and gives the room a distinctly crafted quality. The subtle variation within the mosaic prevents the predominantly light palette from feeling flat, while its fine geometry provides a counterpoint to the smooth, sculptural tub. A particularly thoughtful feature is the integrated sauna viewing window, which creates a visual relationship between the hydrotherapy area and the warm timber sauna beyond. The opening turns the sauna into part of the overall composition and establishes a clear sequence of wellness experiences—hydrotherapy, heat, and showering—within one cohesive suite. The adjacent shower introduces a contrasting material language. Large-format marble-look surfaces create a cleaner, more serene backdrop, while the vertical patterned accent strip adds a strong decorative moment. This controlled use of pattern prevents the space from becoming visually overwhelming and gives the shower its own identity. The sauna itself introduces warmth through natural timber, creating an immediate sensory contrast with the cool, pale surfaces surrounding it. The wood adds depth and reinforces the feeling of a private spa retreat, while the glass enclosure maintains openness and allows the different wellness zones to remain visually connected. The flooring continues the decorative approach with a carefully patterned layout that complements the wall mosaic without simply repeating it. This creates a layered surface treatment in which scale, geometry, and texture work together to give the room a highly customized character. Even the circulation area is treated as part of the design experience. The glass door and open stair connection allow light to move through the space, while the traditional architectural detailing visible beyond the bathroom establishes continuity with the broader residence. The overall concept is residential wellness with an emphasis on craftsmanship and sensory experience. Decorative mosaic, natural timber, glass, stone-inspired surfaces, sculptural plumbing, and carefully integrated wellness features create a room that feels more like a private boutique spa than a conventional home bathroom.
