Living Room in Bronco | Key Feature: A Scottsdale new-build rooted in sculptural modernism, Bronco Revival balances bold black-and-white contrast with organic textures, natural wood elements, and statement lighting. As a groundbreaking “Live Lab” designer residence, it’s a first-of-its-kind space where luxury furnishings are tested in real-world conditions before being introduced into high-profile client homes.
Challenge: Because Bronco Revival was the designer’s personal residence, the project carried a unique level of pressure and intention. The challenge was creating a Scottsdale new-build that felt elevated and editorial while still functioning as a true family home. Every selection had to balance bold sculptural modernism (high contrast, statement lighting, architectural furnishings) with durability, comfort, and day-to-day livability. In addition, the home served as a “Live Lab,” meaning new vendors, materials, and luxury furnishings needed to be tested in real-life conditions before being trusted for future high-profile client projects.
Solution: We approached the project with a highly curated, test-and-refine design strategy, treating each space as both a finished interior and a real-world evaluation environment. Key furnishings, textiles, and materials were selected to support the modern organic vision while also standing up to the demands of everyday family life. We worked through selections intentionally, layering in bold contrast, natural woods, and sculptural statement pieces, while prioritizing performance materials, pet-friendly durability, and timeless foundational elements. By using the home as a lived-in showroom, we were able to validate what truly performs beautifully, refine our vendor relationships, and confidently carry those proven selections into future client designs.

The client, a sculpture artist, and his wife came to J.P.A. only wanting a studio next to their home. During the design process it grew to having a living space above the studio, which grew to having a small house attached to the studio forming a compound. At this point it became clear to the client; the project was outgrowing the neighborhood. After re-evaluating the project, the live / work compound is currently sited in a natural protected nest with post card views of Mount Sopris & the Roaring Fork Valley. The courtyard compound consist of the central south facing piece being the studio flanked by a simple 2500 sq ft 2 bedroom, 2 story house one the west side, and a multi purpose guest wing /studio on the east side. The evolution of this compound came to include the desire to have the building blend into the surrounding landscape, and at the same time become the backdrop to create and display his sculpture.

I love this totally renovated luxury bungalow In Baie d'Urfe Quebec. The walls were removed to allow for entertaining while working in the kitchen.
The beautiful blue found in the island cabinets and mudroom is very striking against the white quartz countertops and walls. Definitely a gorgeous house!
I incorporated the blues, white and greenery into the staging. With all the windows and light, you feel like the outdoors has come in.

Designing and building a kitchen addition is a complex process that involves multiple steps and considerations. Here is a general outline to help you get started on your kitchen addition project:
Define Your Goals and Budget:
• Determine the purpose of the kitchen addition. Is it for more cooking space, a dining area, or a combination of both?
• Establish a realistic budget for your project. Consider all costs, including construction, permits, materials, and furnishings.
Hire a Design Professional:
• Seek the services of a design build company who specializes in kitchen additions.
• Discuss your vision, needs, and budget with the design professional to create a design concept.
Site Evaluation:
• Assess the existing space and structural condition of your home to ensure it can support the addition.
• Consider factors like zoning regulations, setbacks, and building codes.
Design Development:
• Collaborate with your design professional to refine the concept, including the layout, size, and architectural style.
• Choose materials, finishes, and fixtures that fit your design and budget.
Obtain Permits:
• Consult with your local design build contractor to determine the necessary permits and approvals.
• Prepare and submit all required documents, including architectural drawings and engineering plans.
Create Construction Documents:
• Work with your design build professional to develop detailed construction drawings and specifications.
• These documents will serve as a guide for contractors during construction.
Hire a design build contractor:
• Check references, credentials, and licenses before selecting a contractor.
• Sign a detailed contract that outlines the scope of work, timeline, and payment schedule.
Construction Phase:
• Demolition: If needed, remove any existing structures or walls.
• Foundation: Construct the foundation for the addition.
• Framing: Build the structural framework of the addition.
• Plumbing, Electrical, and HVAC: Install or update utilities as required.
• Insulation: Ensure proper insulation for energy efficiency.
• Drywall and Finish Work: Complete the walls and ceilings.
• Flooring and Cabinetry: Install flooring and kitchen cabinets.
• Appliances and Fixtures: Add appliances, plumbing fixtures, and lighting.
• Paint and Finish: Apply paint and finishes to achieve the desired look.
• Final Inspection: Schedule inspections to ensure compliance with building codes.
Final Inspections and Approvals:
• Arrange for final inspections to ensure the addition meets all safety and code requirements.
• Obtain any necessary certificates of occupancy or compliance.
Move In and Enjoy:
• Once all inspections and approvals are received, you can move into your new kitchen addition and start enjoying it.

PRE-TEEN BEDROOMS
Time Frame: 6 Weeks // Budget: $10,000 // Design Fee: $2,500
Here is a small project I took on over the summer to help a past client design her young son’s bedrooms. She didn’t want to spend a lot of money, knowing that someday her boys will want to change their rooms, but also wanted to create something that they would like now, and could grow in to. She had a Feng Sui expert evaluate the space first. Going off of the expert’s advice, I came up with space plans for each room that adhered to Feng Sui. I designed the rooms based off the boy’s favorite colors. New furniture, custom window coverings, paint and decor were selected to give the boy’s each a special room of their own.

The owners of this property approached LB LounsBury Group to request information on an addition to their corner lot property and re-finishing of their existing home, which would accommodate their growing family. Upon conversations that determined budgets and schedules and the necessary permit approvals, LB LounsBury Group began construction. This involved the tearing down of the small existing rear addition to the original house. Finishes throughout the house were aged and outdated. Electrical and mechanical systems were in need of upgrades, basement apartment had low ceilings and limited light distribution.
LB LounsBury Group lowered, underpinned and added radiant heat to the basement floor, created a legal basement apartment with 7ft. + ceilings, built the new 1000 sq. ft. addition around the tree root, protecting the natural element existing in the property. By the use of a helical pile, we cantilevered the addition to allow for the desired size. We installed new electrical and mechanical systems, built new staircases and installed a 14 ft. x10 ft. feature window in the new addition to allow natural light to penetrate the home. A new roof was built and siding was added to the addition for a profession finish look. Upon completion of the project, we assisted our clients with their move back into the home. The property was then estimated to have 2700 sq. ft. not including a basement apartment, and was evaluated to have increased in value by 40%.

Even though it is one of the smallest rooms in the house, having a high-quality bathroom shouldn't be an afterthought; this remodel is one of the most worthwhile home investments you can make. It might not be cheap, but adding updates — like a new bathtub, walk-in shower and double sinks — will increase the overall value, quality and comfort of your home. When you're ready to start the renovation process, it is important to consider popular trends as well as your own family's needs. Evaluate how much storage you’ll need, and how it will affect the overall feel of the space. With a creative use of materials, bathrooms can be both stylish and functional.

The cost of kitchen cabinets is a major consideration when designing a new kitchen. There are so many things that need to be evaluated including the materials, the color and finish. What most kitchen designers don't mention are all of the issues relating to the fit and use of your new cabinets. At Performance Kitchens & Home, our roots come from fine craftspeople like George Nakashima and George Brauntrager, who pioneered many of the techniques that we integrate into our kitchen cabinets.
We believe that every kitchen deserves cabinets that are beautiful, well-built, functional and that are designed to stand up to the test of time. We hope that some of these finely crafted kitchen cabinets will spark some ideas for you!

THE SETUP
This remodeling project transformed a catchall room into a cinema-style theater designed for family entertainment and relaxation. The original space, which housed a small TV, older furniture, and various children’s toys, was reimagined to create a sophisticated, adult-friendly home theater with ample seating and modern amenities.
Design Objectives:
Create a Dark Theater Space: Ensure the room mimics a traditional movie theater environment.
Provide Comfortable Theater Seating: Include enough seating for the family and guests.
Integrate a Dry Bar Area: Include a space for snacks and drinks.
Optimize Space Utilization: Maintain an open area for additional activities.
Design Challenges:
Natural light: The room was too bright for a theater setting.
Seating: Accommodating six theater seats without obstructing views.
Lighting: Ensuring the lighting does not interfere with the viewing experience.
AV: Finding a clutter-free solution for AV equipment.
Dry Bar: Incorporating a dry bar area without overcrowding the space.
Viewing: Ensuring the TV placement allows for comfortable, optimized viewing.
THE RENEWED SPACE
Design Solutions:
Natural Light Control: Installed blackout remote shades on the back window and painted the walls dark charcoal to reduce natural light infiltration.
Seating Arrangement: Built a second level for the back row of seating to ensure unobstructed views for all movie watchers.
Lighting Design: Installed sconces on either side of the window that shine from the sides (to avoid interfering with the viewing experience).
AV Equipment Storage: Utilized existing recess areas with custom shelves matching the cabinetry and concealed cables using a PVC pipe system.
Dry Bar Integration: Created a dry bar area on the back wall with a refrigerator, candy storage, and a small counter space for a popcorn machine and ice maker, with locked drawers to prevent unsupervised access.
Optimal Viewing Distance: Evaluated multiple floor plans and placed the TV on the most suitable wall to ensure optimal viewing and comfortable reclined seating.
Final Thoughts:
The completed home theater has been a resounding success, providing a versatile space for the entire family. The thoughtful design and meticulous attention to detail have created a functional and enjoyable home theater that meets diverse needs, from watching movies and playing video games to relaxing and reading. The areas to the sides of the theater seats can accommodate spillover seating or activity zones. The area housing the AV equipment also includes extra shelves for storing snuggle-grade movie viewing blankets. This theater space has become a favorite hangout spot, offering comfort and entertainment for everyone.
These hone in on the chairs the homeowner decided on with personalized charging and comfort settings.
