Pool House in Bronco | Key Feature: A Scottsdale new-build rooted in sculptural modernism, Bronco Revival balances bold black-and-white contrast with organic textures, natural wood elements, and statement lighting. As a groundbreaking “Live Lab” designer residence, it’s a first-of-its-kind space where luxury furnishings are tested in real-world conditions before being introduced into high-profile client homes. Challenge: Because Bronco Revival was the designer’s personal residence, the project carried a unique level of pressure and intention. The challenge was creating a Scottsdale new-build that felt elevated and editorial while still functioning as a true family home. Every selection had to balance bold sculptural modernism (high contrast, statement lighting, architectural furnishings) with durability, comfort, and day-to-day livability. In addition, the home served as a “Live Lab,” meaning new vendors, materials, and luxury furnishings needed to be tested in real-life conditions before being trusted for future high-profile client projects. Solution: We approached the project with a highly curated, test-and-refine design strategy, treating each space as both a finished interior and a real-world evaluation environment. Key furnishings, textiles, and materials were selected to support the modern organic vision while also standing up to the demands of everyday family life. We worked through selections intentionally, layering in bold contrast, natural woods, and sculptural statement pieces, while prioritizing performance materials, pet-friendly durability, and timeless foundational elements. By using the home as a lived-in showroom, we were able to validate what truly performs beautifully, refine our vendor relationships, and confidently carry those proven selections into future client designs. During the design process it grew to having a living space above the studio, which grew to having a small house attached to the studio forming a compound. At this point it became clear to the client; the project was outgrowing the neighborhood. After re-evaluating the project, the live / work compound is currently sited in a natural protected nest with post card views of Mount Sopris & the Roaring Fork Valley. The courtyard compound consist of the central south facing piece being the studio flanked by a simple 2500 sq ft 2 bedroom, 2 story house one the west side, and a multi purpose guest wing /studio on the east side. The evolution of this compound came to include the desire to have the building blend into the surrounding landscape, and at the same time become the backdrop to create and display his sculpture. “Jess has been our architect on several projects over the past ten years. This luxury transitional residence was visualized to help the client evaluate and finalize the exterior material palette and landscape design before construction. The project focused on exploring various combinations of finishes, allowing the client to compare different design directions and understand how each choice would influence the overall character of the home. Throughout the design process, multiple options were tested for the roofing materials, exterior wall finishes, and window trims. These visualizations provided a clear representation of the subtle differences in texture, color, and architectural expression, helping the client make confident design decisions. The version presented here is the final selected scheme, combining timeless materials with refined detailing to create a sophisticated and elegant appearance that perfectly complements the home's transitional architecture. The project was modeled in SketchUp and rendered using D5 Render, delivering high-quality visuals that streamlined the material selection process and brought the design vision to life.

To move or not to move — that is the question many homeowners are asking as they consider whether to upgrade their existing residence or pack up and find a new one. It was that exact question that was discussed by this homeowner as they evaluated their traditional two-story home in Fontana. Built in 2001, this cedar-sided 3,500-square-foot home features five bedrooms, three-and-a-half baths, and a full basement. During renovation projects like the these, we have the ability and flexibility to work across many different architectural styles. Our main focus is to work with clients to get a good sense of their personal style, what features they’re most attracted to, and balance those with the fundamental principles of good design – function, balance, proportion and flow – to make sure that they have a unified vision for the home. After extensive demolition of the kitchen, family room, master bath, laundry room, powder room, master bedroom and adjacent hallways, we began transforming the space into one that the family could truly utilize in an all new way. In addition to installing structural beams to support the second floor loads and pushing out two non-structural walls in order to enlarge the master bath, the renovation team installed a new kitchen island, added quartz countertops in the kitchen and master bath plus installed new Kohler sinks, toilets and accessories in the kitchen and bath. Underscoring the belief that an open great room should offer a welcoming environment, the renovated space now offers an inviting haven for the homeowners and their guests. The open family room boasts a new gas fireplace complete with custom surround, mantel and bookcases. Underfoot, hardwood floors featuring American walnut add warmth to the home’s interior. Continuity is achieved throughout the first floor by accenting posts, handrails and spindles all with the same rich walnut.

Designed by Marc Jean-Michel of Reico Kitchen & Bath in Bethesda MD, this converted bedroom remodeled as transitional style inspired primary bathroom features Ultracraft Cabinetry in the Piper door style with Raw Cotton finish. The bathroom vanity are MSI Q Quartz in the color Shell White. The bathroom also features products not supplied by Reico but considered during the design process. The products include Loft Lilac 3/4” Penny Round Glass Tile, Pergola Wood White 12.5” Hexagon Matte Porcelain Tile and Highwater Blanco Fishscale Matte 2x5 Ceramic Tile from Tile Bar; Kohler sinks and medicine cabinets; Delta plumbing fixtures and cabinet hardware in Champagne Bronze; and a Duchess Acrylic Double Slipper Clawfoot Tub painted Plum Luck from Restoria Bathtub. “Our new primary bathroom is a dream come true. Marc at Reico was a huge help in laying out the vanities, as the design is a unique corner shape. He used his immense knowledge to help space the drawers and cabinets and helped me visualize the final product throughout the design phase,” said the client. “We brought our tile samples to our appointment and took time to evaluate all potential finishes before making selections. San Francisco Master Bath Remodel

Kaplan Architects, AIA Location: San Francisco, CA, USA This project was the third remodel for this client which involved a complete reorganization and renovation of their existing master bathroom. We were hired evaluate the existing layout of the space, take measures in the redesign to mitigate a persistent leak in the space below the bathroom, and develop a complete and detailed interior design of the remodeled bathroom. The client was also interested in develop any aging in place measures we could implement with the new design changes. We developed a new layout which reorganized the space. The project includes a separate tub and walk in shower area. We created various storage areas which included custom built in medicine cabinets, storage over the wall hung toilet, and a vanity cabinet custom designed for the new space. We also developed the lighting design for the renovated space which included custom lighting between the mirror areas above the vanity. Phi Delta Theta

The Phi Delta Theta house in Davis, California has been rooted in generations of use. The home was originally occupied in 1916 by the Calpha Agricultural Fraternity that eventually evolved into the California chapter of Phi Delta Theta. The original building was evaluated for renovation in the early 2000’s and it was determined renovation was impractical. The building was demolished and design was completed to maintain the original character of the building’s deep historical roots. Monley Cronin was selected and completed full reconstruction of the facility in 2013. Much of the exterior appearance and character of the building was maintained in the new facility.
