After completion: Flagstone patio planted with a mixture of thyme varieties and irrigated with subsurface drip throughout creates an inviting space for entertaining. Raised beds built from redwood are planted with a mixture of cool-season vegetable crops. An espalier Meyer lemon will eventually cover the bare wall space. Boarder plantings consist of perennials, California natives, and Mediterranean shrubs.

This Cincinnati home was transformed with a limewash application that gives it the historic look. Originally generic brick, the new look is complimented by the copper trim. The eventual patina of the copper will be a beautiful compliment to the historic look of the limewashed brick.

A spacious seaside house was created for a family to vacation in and eventually retire to. A blend of transitional details, nautical accents, and textures were chosen to create this calming and serene coastal escape.

The color palette for the plants going into a built in planter on the upper patio. The curved shaped in the background was found on the property, and will eventually become a sculptural element.

This is after I applied black in recessed areas and also slightly along flat surfaces, with a semi gloss topcoat for protection. Hardware was also eventually replaced but not shown on this photo.

When the Eucalyptus collapsed of its own accord, the Aoyagi's replaced it with this still-young Sycamore. They planted it quite small to ensure its success, and in just three years effectively shades the patio. As it grows, it will eventually reach the heights of the Eucalyptus it has succeeded.

Housewright took this client's second home, a log cabin, and turned it into a suitable place for big family gatherings. The home is a retirement plan for the client, where they intend to live full-time eventually. Before they move in full-time they asked us to create more space for entertainment, with a more modern and inviting look and feel.

Corner shot that shows all the transitions and layers I built in to deal with all the levels in the garden. A design fits together like a puzzle and I obsess over the way these levels can become functional and house nooks for eating, sitting, BBQs etc. It's an important part of using the whole space.
