The objective for the exterior of this 5000 sq ft residence was to create a classical shingle-style home that reflected the surrounding prevalent architecture. For the interiors, the owners envisioned a modern European elegance providing a stage for the ever-changing plants, flowers, and sculptural containers. Overly traditional trim packages were eliminated and a furnishings package, along with finishes and lighting, were chosen specifically to complement this vision. The combination of floral motif stair runners, modern furniture pieces, custom millwork, and antique pendants therefore creates a bounty of an era gone by, while breathing a fresh perspective into this modern home. Mauve colored bricks, grayish natural stone pavers and grey & pink boulders were selected to marry the landscape features of the house. A selection of tumbled clay bricks and reclaimed bluestone were used for the front walk, foyer space, driveway, patio, pond & waterfall, adding an aged look to the property. In order to maintain a historic appearance to the site, great emphasis was placed on the preservation and care of two majestic Horsechestnut trees, three flowering Crabs and several mature groupings of Yews. This project was a highly enjoyable project to both design and deliver with Bonsai Group. The client gave a clear idea of his design aspirations, budget and timeframe, which made delivery of this straight forward. The brief was for a timeless, hotel-like, luxury apartment with a neutral colour palette. Except for a delay on made-to-order pieces from Italy, I’m pleased to say we met and exceeded those expectations. Experiencing the enchanting and ever changing views over Herm, Jethou and Sark was an additional project bonus.

What started out as demonstration gardens with rambling paths and open gathering spaces and transformed into a magical outdoor venue. We have had the please of designing and installing the initial concept, along with the modifications throughout the years to meet the ever changing needs of this space.
