Allegretti Architects, Inc.This lakefront home is located on a small plateau in Forest Beach Estates, high above the lake and beach. The design of the home resulted from the Department of Environmental Qualities Critical Dunes Build-able area requirement. The resulting footprint created a flowing curved surface in plan and a curving perimeter that was covered by a curved roof. The views are spectacular from the three viewing levels of this home and allow the plan to provide multiple point panoramic vistas wherever you are in the spaces.
We designed this home to be like a land ship with its ports of call the four seasons. Immersed in the waves and the ever changing surrounding landscape of Forest Beach, the beauty and qualities of the outdoor life can quickly transform your view of life.

The structure, hidden in the boxed ceiling, compliments the original details as they were woven into this new great room. New sliding doors replacing the relocated bathroom at the rear beckon one to the garden. This created the palette for the owner to tailor the finishes exquisitely. The resplendent marble counter top is the heart of their tasteful new living space, ideal for entertaining.
For phase two, the owner commissioned ONE Design to flood the upper level of the home with light. The owner, inspired by her rural upbringing in Humboldt, wished to draw inspiration from this and her Eichler-like grandparent’s home. ONE Design vaulted the ceilings to create an open soaring roof and provide a clean three dimensional canvass. Adding skylights which bathe the clean walls in an ever changing light show was the centerpiece of this transformation. Transom windows over the bedroom doors offer additional light to the interior circulation space. Enlarged windows combine the owner’s desire to live in a “glass house,” while paying respect to the Edwardian heritage of the home and providing expansive views of the meadow-like garden oasis. The cherry on top is the attic retreat, adding a north facing dormer that peeks at the Golden Gate Bridge offers a serene perch — perfect escapism for a creative writer!

Rohlfing, ENR architectsThe family of a local firefighter purchased a raw 15.7 acre ranch in the woody, rolling hills of Thousand Oaks to build their 4ksf, 1-story home with a view of the valley to the NE beyond. The husband and wife team, with an abundance of energy and fortitude, tackled every hurdle with optimistic determination and persistence, including the myriad of agency regulations, construction supervision, and material selections & purchases.
They came to ENRarchitects with a developed seed of an idea and a manila file full of handmade sketches. Together we continuously refined the ideas and produced the final design, documents and engineering to obtain timely permits and competitive bids from subcontractors and suppliers. The owner’s diligence in research and negotiation paid off significantly in a completed budget that was less than half the typical general contracting rate.
The welcoming home, features 4 bedrooms, 3-1/4 baths, kitchen, laundry & pantry, living, dining & family rooms, office, and a 3-car garage with a stall for the speedboat. With the latest in high-density insulation, foil-backed roof sheathing, energy efficient windows, the energy usage is very low, especially considering a whole house fan keeps the usage of the A/C system to a minimum, and a pellet-burning iron stove supplements the furnace.

William Lyon Designs LLCBari, the client’s youngest daughter, has always been very creative so her mother and I wanted to work with her to create a space where she could fully and unapologetically be herself! Everything was removed from the space including the carpet tiles and the walls were painted white. She wanted a clean industrial-style space so we had a whole wall dedicated to sketches and doodles (the wall is white chalk paint). We also had a custom life-size pegboard custom made with adjustable peg shelves for her ever-changing needs. The 86x46 drafting table with a zink top and swivel stools was custom-made by a carpenter in Georgia. Personal touches were a must so pieces of Bari's art were framed in white for inspiration. The 1950's easel was found by her mother on Etsy and the tv logos were hand-painted by a local artist for her “chill zone”.

Kitchen Designs by Ken Kelly, Inc. (CKD, CBD, CR)For this Vermont home, the family wanted an open kitchen concept where they could have a fire crackling in the hearth while they cook and watch kids play board games at the dining table. They knew they wanted a kitchen in the country that would draw people together. Depending on the season, one could look out and see an ever-changing view from the oversized glass windows. Imagine a snowy winter wonderland, brilliant fall foliage, or summer trees so lush and green you feel like you are in a treehouse. That’s what we wanted to capture in their kitchen. We decided to add a beadboard ceiling with black accent beams for a cottage appeal, which matched the open beams in the rest of the house. We varied the cabinetry colors (grey and white), countertop surfaces (walnut butcher block and white quartz) and textures (mixed metals and glazed wood) to give the space character and height. The cabinet’s millwork includes a coffee bar, wet bar, and bead detailing around the cabinet frame with a white finish with hand-painted brushstrokes for a classic and timeless look. High-end appliances include a column refrigerator/freezer, gas range, steam convection oven, microwave, and a wet bar with wine refrigeration and refrigerator drawers.
Reico Kitchen & BathDesigned by Jeff Rizzi of Reico Kitchen & Bath in King of Prussia, PA in collaboration with Mariani Builders, this transitional style two-finish kitchen design features Merillat Classic in the Portrait door style with slab drawer front in Chiffon on the kitchen perimeter and Graphite on the kitchen island. The countertop (provided by others) is Calacatta Classique Q by MSI.

(CKD, CBD, CR)For this Vermont home, the family wanted an open kitchen concept where they could have a fire crackling in the hearth while they cook and watch kids play board games at the dining table. They knew they wanted a kitchen in the country that would draw people together. Depending on the season, one could look out and see an ever-changing view from the oversized glass windows. Imagine a snowy winter wonderland, brilliant fall foliage, or summer trees so lush and green you feel like you are in a treehouse. That’s what we wanted to capture in their kitchen. We decided to add a beadboard ceiling with black accent beams for a cottage appeal, which matched the open beams in the rest of the house.
