This Dining room was designed for a young Hip family that loves to entertain. This is an oversized dining room with great coffered ceilings. We were inspired for this room when we found the fabulous color in the drapery. We kept the furniture traditional, timeless and classic but allowed the lighting and art work to keep things fresh and youthful by lending a more modern element. The elegance of the brass and silver details are counter balanced with a casual grass rug that was custom sized to fit the table allowing the room to remain casually elegant. The white chairs are upholstered in an umbrella fabric to allow their small children to enter and mingle in this fabulous space. The white bar cabinet allows for adult entertaining. And the Trefoil cache pot in the center of the dining table allows for an ever-changing opportunity to bring fresh seasonal fauna inside.

In architecture, a folly is a design wherein aesthetic extravagance transcends function. In other words, they're a hoot. Land+Shelter’s pond pavilion and swing elevates the humble swimming hole to new heights of design. With this graceful arched pond swing we offer visitors the chance to choose their own level of excitement. Choose your step, then jump! In the pond pavilion, a simple steel frame and dark neutral curtains frame the landscape beyond as an ever changing painting. The compact pavilion plan combines a fireplace, water, and shade - all the essential elements of pond enjoyment in one sleek package. Swimming holes aren’t supposed to be elegant; we beg to differ! This fun pavilion and swing project offered us the chance to combine landscape and architecture in a custom steel design package truly unique to this family estate.

Completed in two phases, the kitchen in this home was first overhauled and the wall separating it from the dining room was torn down. The structure, hidden in the boxed ceiling, compliments the original details as they were woven into this new great room. New sliding doors replacing the relocated bathroom at the rear beckon one to the garden. This created the palette for the owner to tailor the finishes exquisitely. The resplendent marble counter top is the heart of their tasteful new living space, ideal for entertaining. For phase two, the owner commissioned ONE Design to flood the upper level of the home with light. The owner, inspired by her rural upbringing in Humboldt, wished to draw inspiration from this and her Eichler-like grandparent’s home. ONE Design vaulted the ceilings to create an open soaring roof and provide a clean three dimensional canvass. Adding skylights which bathe the clean walls in an ever changing light show was the centerpiece of this transformation. Transom windows over the bedroom doors offer additional light to the interior circulation space. Enlarged windows combine the owner’s desire to live in a “glass house,” while paying respect to the Edwardian heritage of the home and providing expansive views of the meadow-like garden oasis. The cherry on top is the attic retreat, adding a north facing dormer that peeks at the Golden Gate Bridge offers a serene perch — perfect escapism for a creative writer!

What started out as demonstration gardens with rambling paths and open gathering spaces and transformed into a magical outdoor venue. We have had the please of designing and installing the initial concept, along with the modifications throughout the years to meet the ever changing needs of this space.
