The comfortable but eclectic space showcases a group of Charlie Harper prints, a George Nelson Ball Clock, a colorful abstract painting, a re-purposed clarinet floor lamp, an Eames chair and a Calder inspired mobile. The level of trim detail and color on this Victorian home accentuates and echoes the home’s accents throughout the landscape. Mauve colored bricks, grayish natural stone pavers and grey & pink boulders were selected to marry the landscape features of the house. A selection of tumbled clay bricks and reclaimed bluestone were used for the front walk, foyer space, driveway, patio, pond & waterfall, adding an aged look to the property.
In order to maintain a historic appearance to the site, great emphasis was placed on the preservation and care of two majestic Horsechestnut trees, three flowering Crabs and several mature groupings of Yews. There are a series of paths and sweeping panels of lawn installed to create inviting linkages through various spaces. Lastly, the crown jewel of the property is the waterfall, pond and its cottage garden plantings, which throughout the season provide a whimsical garden, with ever-changing sights and sounds.

The mission: turn an unused back patio into a space where mom and dad and kids can all play and enjoy being together. Dad is an avid video gamer, mom and dad love to play board games with friends and family, and the kids love to draw and play.
After the patio received a new enclosure and ceiling with recessed LED lights, my solution was to divide this long space into two zones, one for adults and one for kids, but unified with a sky blue and soothing green color palette and coordinating rugs.
To the right we have a comfortable sofa with poufs gathered around a specialty cocktail table that turns into a gaming table featuring a recessed well which corrals boards, game pieces, and dice (and a handy grooved lip for propping up game cards), and also has a hidden pop-up monitor that connects to game consoles or streams films/television.
I designed a shelving system to wrap around the back of a brick fireplace that includes narrow upper shelving to store board games, and plenty of other spots for fun things like working robotic models of R2D2 and BB8!
Over in the kids’ zone, a handy storage system with blue doors, a modular play table in a dark blue grey, and a sweet little tee pee lined with fur throws for playing, hiding, or napping gives this half of the room an organized way for kids to express themselves. Magnetic art holders on the wall display an ever-changing gallery of finger paintings and school crafts.
This back patio is now a fun room sunroom where the whole family can play!

Perched on a 16-acre property in Norther Minnesota, this home offers expansive views of Lake Superior’s rugged coastline.
A single view takes precedence: During storm events, a micro-island of solid rock experiences dramatic cross-currents and explosive waves. In fair weather the island is a picturesque monolith emerging from dark waters. Core living spaces (Entry, Kitchen, Dining, Living) share this view by establishing lower relative floor planes; rooms step down in reverence to this ever-changing landscape feature.

For this Vermont home, the family wanted an open kitchen concept where they could have a fire crackling in the hearth while they cook and watch kids play board games at the dining table. They knew they wanted a kitchen in the country that would draw people together. Depending on the season, one could look out and see an ever-changing view from the oversized glass windows. Imagine a snowy winter wonderland, brilliant fall foliage, or summer trees so lush and green you feel like you are in a treehouse. That’s what we wanted to capture in their kitchen. We decided to add a beadboard ceiling with black accent beams for a cottage appeal, which matched the open beams in the rest of the house. We varied the cabinetry colors (grey and white), countertop surfaces (walnut butcher block and white quartz) and textures (mixed metals and glazed wood) to give the space character and height. The cabinet’s millwork includes a coffee bar, wet bar, and bead detailing around the cabinet frame with a white finish with hand-painted brushstrokes for a classic and timeless look. High-end appliances include a column refrigerator/freezer, gas range, steam convection oven, microwave, and a wet bar with wine refrigeration and refrigerator drawers.

This airy living room was conceived around the homeowners love of art and nature. A palette derived from sea and sand, natural elements were brought in both literally and figuratively.
Warm wood and earthen accents are countered by sleek, modern accent chairs. The embroidered linen draperies draw the eye up and serve as a dramatic backdrop to the serene conversation area. Oversized mirrors transfer the ambient light throughout the room.
The centerpiece of the room is a silk and copper aerial sculpture by artist Jan R. Carson (www.janrcarson.com) that is accented by a halogen spotlight. The lighting casts an ever-changing shadow, creating life and whimsy to the room. The homeowners have even been known to move the furniture back, spotlight the mobile, and use the room as a salsa dance floor!
A reclaimed hand-carved door was repurposed as a coffee table. Modern elements such as the lucite "Ghost" chair, the Gus rocker, and impressionist original oil painting balance out the rustic elements of the room.

Named for the original homestead, the Aspen Leaf Ranch blends early ranch history with modern sensibility. The owner, an outdoorsman and native plant enthusiast, and former project manager of notable Seattle buildings (including the Olympic Sculpture Park and the Bullitt Center), tasked Best Practice Architecture with designing a modest yet comfortable home reflective of valley cabins and farmsteads. He desired a small home that was ‘light on the land’, yet flexible enough to accommodate visiting friends and family. Located in a quiet river valley 10 miles from the nearest town, the result is a humble compound firmly rooted in the rural vernacular.
The Methow Valley was familiar to the owner from childhood ski and camping trips and he now has family who live in the area. The Valley is hot and dry in the summer and on average receives over 70 inches of snow each winter. Set in a narrow river valley below high mountain peaks, the owner wanted the new home to have a strong visual and physical connection to the surrounding landscape. For many years, the homestead was operated as a horse packing guide service, and an old agricultural barn remains that will eventually be repurposed into a ski waxing room, shop, and sauna. Two new structures make up the residential retreat: a one-bedroom main house and a carport with an adjoining guest suite, small office, and storage for outdoor equipment. Best Practice’s design prioritizes natural light and optimizes dramatic views of the surrounding meadow, forest, hills, and mountains
“I wanted both the design and scale of the new buildings to reflect traditional ranch homes and cabins in the remote river valley with all the creature comforts of modern living,” said the homeowner. “Ensuring a strong connection to the outside throughout the seasons was a primary goal. Windows on all sides and three exterior doors allow me to track the many species of birds and wildlife that move through the property and access the ever-changing light and weather.”
Best Practice carefully positioned the new structures to frame important vistas while minimizing disturbance to the native forest and meadow. The exterior finishes and details are consistent with historic cabins and barns in the area but stylized to acknowledge the new structure’s place in time. Metal roofing, siding, and a gravel skirt were chosen to reduce wildfire risk, and native plantings attract and support local birds and wildlife. Best Practice simplified the interior detailing with a nod towards a rural cabin aesthetic, incorporating painted beadboard, extensive built-in cabinetry, warm woods, a sizeable kitchen, and an open nook for daytime lounging and overnight guests. The design also took into account the owner’s collection of art, family heirlooms, and furniture gathered over many years.
Best Practice designed this Methow Valley home to respect the history and beauty of the historic Aspen Leaf Ranch while embracing modern comforts. The design successfully meets a well-considered program for 4-season use and serves as a full-time rural retreat for the owner as well as a gathering place for friends and family.

The Mid-Levels of Hong Kong Island is one of the most prominent luxury residential areas. This project - Estoril Court in Mid-Levels Central is one of the rare heritage mansions in Hong Kong with a "thousand-year lease," comprising a total of 240 units.
The young couple, with their two daughters, have settled here. For the wide experience husband, the most important aspect of a home is that it carries the "depth of love." His wife's preferences and the children's interests were frequently mentioned during this project. "I hope the design can break through conventions and avoid falling into the trap of popular but clichéd styles. Kyle and I resonate deeply on this point; we both pursue a 'more personal expression.' Family life should be relaxing, natural, and bringing joy to my family members."
This residence features a square layout and excellent natural lighting, with a practicality rate of nearly 90%. However, its over 40-year-old structure poses numerous constraints on renovations. Adhering to the existing structure and the wisdom of geomancy, Karv One Design has re-examined the relationship among the landscape, windows, and functional flow within the home. They have integrated practicality, beauty, and self-expression into every corner, enhancing the happiness of living.
Once stepping into the living room, you are greeted by Hong Kong's most spectacular vistas. The ever-changing scenery of Victoria Harbour, both day and night, the immense skyscrapers of different banks and commercial buildings and the panoramic views of the Peak are all within sight. The expansive dimensions of the living room are a response to the surrounding environment, providing ample space for family bonding and companionship, while also allowing the breathtaking skyline views to seamlessly integrate into daily life.
Unlike traditional whole-house decoration, the design of Hong Kong homes emphasizes collage and customization. The minimalist aesthetic of the space corresponds to the luxurious craftsmanship and time costs involved. Elements such as natural stone, artistic paint, parquet flooring, wood veneer, and leather have all been meticulously coordinated in terms of color and proportion, while a significant amount of storage space has been cleverly concealed within the walls.
The study room is deliberately positioned to one side of the living room, embracing the gentle stretch of sunlight. The arched iron partition, exuding a vintage flavor and traces of time, not only serves as a natural divider of space but also becomes a highlight of the interior decoration with its unique artistic form, creating a serene yet stylish atmosphere. It ensures privacy without compromising on openness, allowing the home owner to work in the study room while still keeping an eye on the children playing in the living room.
Custom-made artisanal furniture offers a whole new expression of comfort and practicality to the space. The Giorgetti HUG armchair combines a sculptural sense of form with a flowing sense of shape. When natural light filters in, a rich artistic atmosphere permeates and grows within, making the home a place of tranquility and peace of mind.
The original open-plan layout of the master bedroom has been reconfigured and divided. The ultimate goal of the enclosed space is to provide comfort and ease of sleep. The pale green color is also carefully coordinated, focusing on creating a serene and pleasant atmosphere. The combination of "green," "wood," and "metal elements" is based on Feng Shui considerations, serving to stabilize and concentrate the energy flow.
The children's room is simple yet cozy, where sunlight awakens the space and transparent glass windows bring in the ocean view. The palette of pale blue and white adds warmth and vitality to the space, inspiring children's boundless imagination about the unknown world and giving them the courage to see mountains, seas, and the world beyond.
The moment when the door is open, the magic of lighting begins. What greets the eye is an elegant and tastefully designed artistic foyer. The pace of work in Hong Kong is fast and efficient, often causing people to overlook family time. Therefore, the entrance is adorned with a large area of gentle ivory white, featuring sculptural-like display stands and flowers and vignettes that can be arranged according to the owner's mood. As night falls, the panoramic view of the Victoria Harbour's night scene comes into view, elevating the enjoyment to the utmost.
The lighting system in the space brings more enjoyable experiences to "living as you desire." The smart system caters to various states of living scenarios at different times, as well as to the subtle needs of ambient temperature, brightness, and tactile atmosphere. Whether it's solo time or family moments, day or night, everyone has a comfortable place to be.
The "Estoril Court" project is a full-service case that last for 12 months. We had hundreds of communications and exchanges with the home owner, and continuously coordinated and collaborated with the property management, on-site construction and installation workers, manufacturers, and various suppliers, striving for perfection in craftsmanship and meticulous attention to detail in execution. Finally, seeing the satisfied expressions of the home owner and their family, we felt that it was an ideal conveyance.

The traditional dining room at Villa Bella Vista is a refined and elegant space designed to fully embrace its breathtaking mountain setting. Positioned to overlook the rolling peaks of the Asheville mountains, the room is framed by generous windows that capture sweeping views while filling the space with soft, natural light. The ever-changing landscape becomes a living backdrop, enhancing both everyday meals and formal gatherings with a sense of grandeur and calm.
Designed by architect Brad Wright of Wright Design, the dining room reflects the home’s European-inspired character through classic proportions, graceful archways, and rich, timeless materials. The traditional detailing pairs beautifully with the dramatic scenery beyond, creating a seamless connection between refined interior design and the natural beauty of The Cliffs at Walnut Cove. Elegant yet welcoming, this dining room is a true centerpiece of the home—where craftsmanship, tradition, and spectacular mountain views come together effortlessly.

The back deck and garage was designed to accommodate an active families needs. Dining and grilling space close to the house for every day use, and an open rooftop space with plenty or serving and flexible space for the families ever changing needs. The deck was made with IPE decking, and the clients are going to let it grey out rather than try to oil it yearly. The grey color will contrast perfectly with the polished stainless steel cable railings. The pergola has two areas with permanent shade panels. One area is completely covered with aluminum roofing to keep the young area dry, while the other side has loved shade panels made out of cedar to let light and air through, while also blocking the to afternoon sun. The planters are position to bock unwanted views and also to define exterior rooms.
