This vacation home in Falmouth, MA needed lots of TLC inside and out when the family bought it. One of the first projects they completed was replacing the roof. Being by the ocean, it was important that this roof could withstand snow, driving rain, temperature fluctuations and wind gusts up to 130mph – so they chose a GAF Timberline HD roofing system. We completely removed the old roof and started fresh by inspecting deck boards for any rot or insect damage. The boards are then re-nailed before applying underlayment to the whole roof deck. GAF Cobra Ridge Vent, ice and water shield, and drip edge – our roofing systems prevent ice dams and water intrusion from driving rain. A properly vented roof allows air to circulate in the attic to maintain both a constant temperature and prevents excessive moisture buildup.

In the living room in combination with the accent orange color of furnishings, the color takes on a sophisticated aura as it makes for a befitting partner for the warmth of wood. This home is not a design of the excess. The design fabric is extremely simple and minimal. But we'd like to clarify one thing here. Simple, in no way means or translates into being uninteresting or less intriguing. It's easy to create a layered space when take the maximalist route. But to ensure that a minimalist, almost bare is space is equally layered and intriguing is the real challenge .

The tiles shown in the photographs below are classic distressed Black and White Italian Marble installed in the kitchen of a property in Bamber Bridge which is South of Preston. Some of the tiles had an issue with loose grout which I suspect was due to the suspended wooden floor and a small amount of movement had resulted in the grout cracking.
Ideally more support would be needed under the floor to prevent this, in the meantime however I recommended removing the grout and replacing with a flexible grout product that could cope with the movement. The tiles also needed a clean, polish and reseal so it made sense to address the issue with the grout as part of the work.
Working as a two-man team we started by cleaning the floor with a set of diamond burnishing pads starting with a coarse 400-grit, followed by 800 and 1500 grit. Water was used to lubricate the process and the floor was rinsed with water between pads with the fine slurry generated by the process extracted using a wet vacuum. These pads remove ingrained dirt and then slowly refine the appearance of the Marble building up its polished appearance in the process.
The next step was to rake out all the grout which as discussed was compromised and needed replacing. We had to be very careful when removing the grout due to the electric heating mat under the floor, any damage to that would require ripping the floor up. With the old grout removed and the floor cleaned the floor was then grouted using Mapei Ultra-colour which is a flexible and fully waterproof grout more than suitable for this situation.
Between us we managed to pack a lot into day one which was tough, however with the hardest tasks out of the way day two should be a lot easier.
Day two started with an initial clean making sure to remove any excess grout smeared on the surface that can affect the look of the tile if not removed. This was followed by the application of the last of the set of burnishing pads which is a 3,000-grit pad that really brings up the polish on the marble. You only need a small amount of water sprayed onto the floor when applying this last pad so by late morning the floor was dry and ready for sealing. The customer wanted a better sheen appearance than they previously had, fortunately we find the Diamond burnishing pads do this well, they also tighten up the pores of the stone as well which means less sealer is needed.
The floor was then sealed with Tile Doctor Colour Grow which is an impregnating sealer that improves colour and soaks into the stone occupying the pores and thereby preventing dirt from becoming ingrained. Once complete the floor looked great and the client was very happy.
Sealers and Polish do wear down with use over time so before leaving I discussed our annual maintenance plan option which will ensure the appearance of the Marble floor always looks good. The plan involves returning once a year to further polish the floor with a high-grade burnishing pad and to add more sealer if required. We also discussed the use of Tile Doctor Stone Soap for regular cleaning, it is a pH neutral cleaner which is ideal for stone floors like Marble which are acid sensitive.

The #LakesideLeisure Project was a comprehensive redesign of a lakefront property that transformed various challenges into stunning solutions. Initially, the property featured a small, high-maintenance cedar deck with minimal lake views, poorly placed stairs, limited flat yard space due to extensive tiered landscaping and excessive plantings, obstructed lake views, and privacy concerns from a neighboring home.
The client’s vision was clear: they wanted a large, flat yard for family activities and hosting, enhanced outdoor living spaces for dining and lounging, increased privacy from neighbors, more shaded hangout areas, improved “curb appeal” from the lake, and reduced maintenance.

We place a lot of care and experience into each one of our pieces for years of memories to come. Our slabs are sustainably sourced from different regions in the US, Central & South America and we work closely with our clients to select them.
**Handmade item - Each piece is Custom Built To Order and finishes can vary, hence your piece will have a slight variation from the item shown in the photo as every piece of wood is different.
We ship to all US via truck freight and all our tables are wrapped carefully and placed inside a wooden crate with high-quality insulation to ensure safe arrival.
LEAD TIME: Our lead time varies from time to time but it is approximately 3-5 weeks plus 7-10 transit. We will let you know prior to placing the order. Rush orders are available for an additional fee depending on the project.
FINISH: We work with different options for Residential and Commercial use such as Rubio Monocoat, Osmo Polix Hardwax oil, and Commercial Grade Conversion Varnish. Our finish maintains the natural look and feel of the wood, all while offering protection and durability.
Here are some recommendations for keeping your countertop beautiful for a good time. Like every wood, maintenance depends a lot on how it is used. No matter what kind of sealant we apply liquids always win (with only one exception, an epoxy coating that looks like plastic, not very attractive).
- I recommend always using coasters, keeping hot pans away from the surface, and never letting water sits on them.
- For cleaning just a light mixture of soap and water and NEVER use harsh products like comet or Scotch Bright pads.
If you follow the recommendations the countertop will look fresh and clean for at least 2 years and then you may want to consider re-sanding and coating again which is super easy with Rubio Monocoat oil finish.
There is also a great maintenance oil developed by Rubio Monocoat - “Rubio Monocoat Renew” that refreshes, restores, and protects surfaces treated with Rubio Monocoat Oil Plus 2C (the one we use for all our furniture).
It’s recommended whenever the surface feels too dry or rough and it is super easy to apply in 3 steps:
1- Clean and dry the surface
2- Apply the oil using cloth rags, brush, or sponge
3- With kitchen tissue or cotton cloth remove all the excess oil within 10-15 min.
The surface should be dry after 6-8 hours.

Caring for aging parents is both a joy and a challenge. The clients wanted to create a more aging-in-place friendly basement area for their mother. The existing kitchenette was more of a glorified bar and did not give her the option of cooking independently, and definitely not stylishly.
We re-configured the area so it was all open, with full kitchen capabilities. All appliances were selected to cater to the mother's limited reach, so all functional storage and product usage can be done without raising arms excessively.
Special storage solutions include a peg-system for a dish drawer, tiered silverware trays, a slide-up appliance garage, and pivoting pantry storage.
The cabinets also give ample display space for her collection of antique glassware.
In lieu of an island, we created a solid-surface top for a standard table so food can be prepped while sitting and without damaging the table top.
All items reflect the mother's tastes and existing furniture so she can truly feel like this basement is her space, while still being close to her son and daughter-in-law.

It’s always a good idea to double-check any tile cleaning advice you receive with a professional. Sometimes advice can be inaccurate and cause more problems than good. Such was the case with this customer, who lives in the small town of Appleton near Warrington. He had been advised by his builder to use brick acid to remove carpet glue from a newly discovered Quarry tiled floor. Taking the advice, he had washed the floor several times with a solution of brick acid diluted with water. But while this seemed to successfully remove the carpet glue, it also severely discoloured the grout lines, leaving the entire floor looking grubby and unappealing.
The customer was just about to go on holiday, and asked me to see what could be done to restore the floor’s appearance while he was gone. With the house to myself, I got to work.
My first job was to strip the floor property to remove old sealers present on the tile using a strong dilution of our high alkaline cleaner, Tile Doctor Pro Clean. We use this cleaner on all types of tile and natural stone due to its versatility and consistency.
I spread the solution onto the floor and left to dwell for twenty minutes before scrubbing with a black pad fitted to a floor rotary machine. This process also removed the years of dirt and dust that had penetrated through the recently removed carpet. I also paid attention to the grout lines giving them a good scrub with a stiff grout brush, but the acid staining proved to be impossible to remove completely.
While I’m not sure exactly how long the floor had been covered by carpet, it’s safe to say a deep clean had been long, long overdue. Once I had cleaned the floor to a high standard, I used a wet-vac to remove the now dirty cleaning solution from the floor, before leaving it to dry off completely overnight.
Upon my return to the property the next day, I tested to make sure the floor was dry enough to seal, which is important as excess moisture can cloud the sealer and damage its performance.
Once satisfied, I applied one coat of Tile Doctor Colour Grow, which is our impregnating sealer designed to really bring out the natural colours in the tile, followed by two coats of Tile Doctor Seal and Go to give the tiles a stain resistant, low-sheen finish.
After this was dry I coloured the grout lines with a matching Tile Doctor Grout Colourant to cover and hide the damage the acid had caused to the grout lines. Finally, I gave the floor three more coats of Seal and Go to add the finishing touches.
My customer returned from holiday to find a completely transformed floor. Looking at the before and after photos, it is easy to see why he was more than happy with the result! Another satisfied customer.

Our clients wanted a modern mountain getaway that would combine their gorgeous mountain surroundings with contemporary finishes. To highlight the stunning cathedral ceilings, we decided to take the natural stone on the fireplace from floor to ceiling. The dark wood mantle adds a break for the eye, and ties in the views of surrounding trees. Our clients wanted a complete facelift for their kitchen, and this started with removing the excess of dark wood on the ceiling, walls, and cabinets. Opening a larger picture window helps in bringing the outdoors in, and contrasting white and black cabinets create a fresh and modern feel.

Cleaning Mold with Bleach is Hazardous, Don't use bleach, Mold,
Using chlorine bleach to kill mold is probably one of the worst things you can do.
As a matter of fact, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), stopped recommending the use of bleach for dealing with mold issues. And, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) updated their guide as well, removing the suggestion to use bleach to kill mold.
The problem is, it’s true that bleach can kill some mold in some places, some of the time. But, bleach only works to remove mold on hard, impermeable surfaces like bathtub and shower surrounds or tiles. However, on porous surfaces like drywall or hardwood floors, it won’t work to kill mold or keep it from coming back.
Mold spreads its roots deep into porous surfaces.
Simply spraying a bleach solution on the surface won’t kill mold spores at their roots.
Here are some reasons Why you should NOT to Use Bleach to Kill Mold:
1) Bleach is Caustic, with High VOC's and can cause Burns to your Eyes, Nose and Throat and Skin. Your Pets paws, can get burned, and Pets lick their paws.
2) Bleach encourages toxic mold growth on porous surfaces because it provides excess moisture.
3) Bleach is extremely corrosive, and corrodes Metal Fastners, such as Screws and Nails, Water Pipes, Waste and Drain Pipes.
4) Bleach only removes the color from mold.
5) Chlorine bleach is extremely harmful to surfaces.

I love the deep puddle on this custom drapery. The fabric is Dupioni Silk, and nothing says luxury more than this deep flowing, puddled fabric. Excess is sometimes necessary!

Built in 1910, this charming DC row house is located in the historic Bloomingdale neighborhood. At some point, the home had been converted into two separate apartments and, in doing so, the previous owners had removed the connecting stairs and made some other problematic design decisions. When our clients purchased the home in 2017, it required a full gut renovation in order to bring it up to code and return it to a single family residence. One of the initial challenges was to address the excessive bulkheads, soffits and ceiling height changes that made the rooms feel off kilter. Reconfiguring the HVAC system and ductwork allowed us to minimize bulkheads and raise the ceilings which, in turn made the spaces feel larger and more open. In the kitchen, the extra height meant we could install taller upper cabinets which provided much needed storage. By expanding the kitchen we were able to reconfigure the layout and create additional prep space and a more functional location for the range.
