A detached office structure plus a large fully covered patio completely transforms a small yet still underutilized backyard space into a functional and lush oasis.
Xeriscaping with drought tolerant succulents create an ultra-low maintenance landscape that still feels teeming with life and excitement.
Earthen boulders, water features, fire pits, and windchimes shaped as birdhouses complete the family's request to incorporate the 4 Natural Elements into the design.

The Nakamoto siding was selected specifically for the way it plays into that aesthetic. The horizontal shou sugi ban cedar provided the perfect weathered, timeless effect the team wanted. The homeowner was particularly excited about the siding’s slightly blue tint and how it plays off the water, and the pinkish hints throughout the wood grain were a perfect compliment to the color scheme of the home. The home is exposed to a lot of elements and insects on the water, so the durability of the siding was also key in their decision.

Our Louisville clients were proud new home owners who were excited to move into their home and start personalizing! We created a transitional design for their home that incorporates modern touches and classic lines to tie the spaces together. Our primary focus was to update the home and keep things feeling clean and fresh while making it comfortable for everyone in the family. We started by painting every room in their home, replacing all of their interior doors, and updating all of their light fixtures. One of the most transformative elements was the updated flooring throughout the home. We removed the oak floors and replaced them with a wide plank solid hickory which removed the yellow undertones and gave them a clean backdrop for the rest of the design. The clients really wanted to freshen up their kitchen and incorporate new appliances without starting from scratch, so we rearranged a few of their existing cabinets to make room for their new stove and range hood. We also lowered the original bar-height counter to make the kitchen feel more open to their family room. We then painted all of their cabinets a crisp white, replaced the crown molding, updated the hardware, replaced their counter top with a marble look quartz, and used a soft green mosaic tile on their backsplash. This home has a large family room, and the original fireplace was far too small and seemed to disappear under the 20 foot ceilings. So we removed the old square fireplace, replacing it with a linear gas fireplace and a floor-to-ceiling tiled surround with a custom wood mantle. This created a real focal point and helped to anchor the space. We then brought in a cozy blue sectional and a soft new rug to make this the perfect place for a family movie night. The clients have a real love of music, and wanted to create a space where they could lay back and enjoy their vinyls. So in their family room we created a custom stereo wall with floating cabinets and shelves to house all of their audio equipment and showcase a few of their favorites. We then furnished the room with clean and classically inspired pieces to tie in with the aesthetics in the rest of the home.

A happy east coast family gets their perfect second home on the west coast.
This family of 6 was a true joy to work with from start to finish. They were very excited to have a home reflecting the true west coast sensibility: ocean tones mixed with neutrals, modern art and playful elements, and of course durability and comfort for all the kids and guests. The pool area and kitchen got total overhauls (thanks to Jeff with Black Cat Construction) and we added a fun wine closet below the staircase. They trusted the vision of the design and made few requests for changes. And the end result was even better than they expected.

This was the Master Bedroom - some romantic details.
DTSH Interiors selected the furniture and arrangement, as well as the window treatments.
DTSH Interiors formulated a plan for six rooms; the living room, dining room, master bedroom, two children's bedrooms and ground floor game room, with the inclusion of the complete fireplace re-design.
The interior also received major upgrades during the whole-house renovation. All of the walls and ceilings were resurfaced, the windows, doors and all interior trim was re-done.
The end result was a giant leap forward for this family; in design, style and functionality. The home felt completely new and refreshed, and once fully furnished, all elements of the renovation came together seamlessly and seemed to make all of the renovations shine.
During the "big reveal" moment, the day the family finally returned home for their summer away, it was difficult for me to decide who was more excited, the adults or the kids!
The home owners kept saying, with a look of delighted disbelief "I can't believe this is our house!"
As a designer, I absolutely loved this project, because it shows the potential of an average, older Pittsburgh area home, and how it can become a well designed and updated space.
It was rewarding to be part of a project which resulted in creating an elegant and serene living space the family loves coming home to everyday, while the exterior of the home became a standout gem in the neighborhood.

Located in a private residence in Rochester, NY; the owners commissioned this piece to bring personal interests to the design of their home in a unique colorful way. Their love of music, nature and various cultures informed the foundation the design using bold color and abstracted patterns to enhance the experience of the couple's passions in their home environment.
The front entry was replaced with a wider side light to one side designed to be in harmony with the contemporary architecture. The new glass configuration accentuates the space by providing a broad palette for the artwork to breath.
This project utilizes a new technique most known in Germany called Laminated Glass, offering a more contemporary aesthetic to the traditional stained glass application. This technique has been used on large glass facades of buildings, but it can also be used to create windows, doors, shower doors, railings, table tops, wall treatments and large scale sculptures covering partial or whole areas for interior and exterior applications.
On sunny days, color transforming shadows add energy and excitement to the home that are ever transforming throughout the seasons and time of day.

The clients were excited to experiment stylistically, while incorporating their own personal style into the space. While mixing modern and mid-century elements throughout the home, the end result was exactly what the couple was looking for.
Take a look at renderings, plans and before & after photos to see how the process was executed from start to end.

This three home project in Seattle was a creative challenge we were excited to tackle. The lot sizes were long and narrow, so we decided to create a compact contemporary space. Our design team chose light solid surface elements and a dark flooring for a warmer mix.

This project was so fun! A young family wanted us to help all the way down to the final touch for their Canmore recreational property. In a 3 bedroom home, they wanted to have enough space for their family of 5 and a guest room…so we did a unique bunk style room for the kids. We love the mountain feel that this home has, with the cherry staircase, cabinetry and wood floors. All of the wood used throughout in the baseboard, casing and doors drives home that mountain modern aesthetic. We used pops of color in the art to give it some fun and life. As well as some unique rustic elements like the skiis to add that cabin feel. We love how this home turned out and we were so excited to help this client down to the final touch!

This setting evokes a cozy dinner with family and friends in a country somewhere between Europe and Africa blending it's elegantly mysterious cultural elements with dramatic colors and exciting style.

This teenage girl's bedroom is a stylish and energetic space that blends soft, feminine touches with a pop of bold color for an exciting yet cozy atmosphere. The primary palette centers around blush pink, creating a warm and welcoming foundation, while mustard yellow accents add an unexpected pop of energy and creativity.
Two feature walls are adorned with a subtle watercolor motif wallpaper in blush hues, to create visual interest without overwhelming the room. Artwork and decorative elements like framed prints, motivational quotes, or abstract art in mustard yellow, blush pink, and touches of gold create a personalized feel, bringing the entire room together.

Once again, we have had the pleasure of working with this outstanding builder on another project. Aaron Mauk not only designed but supplied and installed all the cabinetry in this new home which definitely utilizes an "open" design concept throughout. Unique lighting elements are found in every room which keeps every space fun and exciting. The kitchen uses grey tones to create a cool, clean environment that showcases the breathtaking ceilings. Most of the cabinetry in the house is shown in Marsh’s “Graphite” stain on maple wood, which is a beautiful way of tying the whole home together. This home is not only beautiful, but it is functional as well. The pull down closet rods found in the laundry room extend over the washer and dryer so it can be used when needed, but easily stored out of the way when not in use.

With much excitement the existing home was demolished before their eyes to make way for their custom dream home. Incorporating mostly traditional elements with a few modern touches they were able to create a stunning and inviting dwelling for their family to enjoy together for many years to come.

Design:
For this young Boulder family, the goal was simple: bring their home in Old North Boulder into alignment with their day-to-day.
The spaces were generous, but they felt dated and inefficient. The primary bathroom, in particular, had plenty of square footage but lacked intention. The mudroom functioned, but barely. As part of this Boulder home remodel, the focus wasn’t on adding more space; it was about using the space they already had more thoughtfully.
In the primary suite, the vision centered on creating a retreat that felt restorative and refined. A freestanding tub and shower brought softness and openness, but the true focal point was the custom sauna, a feature the homeowners were especially excited about. The design blends aesthetic warmth with everyday function, transforming what was once an oversized, underutilized bathroom into a spa-like escape.
Throughout the remodel, the guiding principle was balance: elevated design paired with real-life durability for a busy family household.
Build:
Because the rooms already existed, we maintained the original footprint and focused on improving flow and efficiency. This approach allowed us to modernize the home without unnecessary structural changes–a strategic move within this Boulder home remodel, and one that kept costs under control.
In the primary bathroom, we reworked the layout to better utilize the expansive square footage. The sauna was seamlessly integrated alongside the freestanding tub and shower, creating a cohesive, calming environment rather than disconnected features. Every element was positioned with purpose, turning a previously inefficient plan into a highly functional and luxurious daily retreat.
The mudroom was approached with equal intention. Designed for everyday transitions like coming in from the garage, managing backpacks, shoes, dog gear, and Colorado weather, the updated space prioritizes smart storage and organization. It now supports the rhythm of family life rather than working against it.
The result is an interior transformation that feels fresh, efficient, and deeply personal, a Boulder home remodel that proves meaningful change doesn’t always require expanding walls, just rethinking them.
