Goals The clients main goal was more space. They desired a new kitchen that was large enough to fit their growing family and to update other rooms in their home to fit their contemporary style. Our Design Solution In order to enlarge the kitchen, we had to build a new addition. The original kitchen was just too small and had no where to expand to within the house. With moving the entire kitchen into the addition, there was now room to create a mudroom and a new bathroom. Above the new kitchen, we gave the client a new master suite. We used white cabinets, a custom wood counter, and gray back splash tile, to give the kitchen the contemporary feel the clients were seeking. C.J South Photography

The Jackson II Expanded adds 353sf of living space to the Jackson II floor plan. This spacious four bedroom home has a downstairs study/guest suite with walk-in closet, which can be configured with a full bath and a bay window option. A mudroom with storage closet opens from the garage, creating a separate entry to the guest suite. A large pantry is added to the kitchen area in the Expanded version of the plan. Space is also added to the family room and dining room in this plan, and the dining room has a trey ceiling. The relocated utility room offers the convenience of second floor laundry and a folding counter. Bedrooms two and three share a private hallway access to the hall bath, which is designed for shared use. The primary bedroom suite features a large bedroom, a reconfigured bath with dual vanity, and a room-sized closet. A garden tub and separate shower are included, and additional luxury bath options are also offered on this plan. Like the original Jackson II plan, the two story foyer has a railed overlook above, and encompasses a feature window over the landing. The family room and breakfast area overlook the rear yard, and the centrally located kitchen is open to all main living areas of the home, for good traffic flow and entertaining. Nine foot ceilings throughout the first floor are included. Exterior plan details include a metal-roofed front porch, shake siding accents, and true radius head windows.

Custom built-in bunk beds: We utilized the length and unique shape of the room by building a double twin-over-full bunk wall.

This kitchen was designed for a client who has a passion for cooking and baking, and spends a lot of time there. The original kitchen had a wall at the end of the left cabinets, separating it from an unused music room. After demoing the wall, the kitchen was expanded into this space and the dining room was moved into the new open plan kitchen. Two small spaced windows were turned into a new double window above a wide farmhouse sink, flooding the kitchen with light. Simple, modern pendants over islands, plus recessed and under cabinet lighting provide ample lighting. To achieve a clean, timeless look we paired white shaker style cabinets with a pop of the “new neutral”, blue, on two islands. The island closest to the stove and sink is the main workstation, with plenty of storage on one side and an overhang with seating (for hanging out while cooking or just eating) on the other. Thoughtfully designed features include a vertical cabinet to store sheet pans, and a mixer installed inside the cabinet that swings up when the door is opened - no lifting or bending required. The second island is also multi-use - serving as a versatile work space as well. Additional unique features include lit upper cabinets, and (one of our favorites) to the right of the range wall, under drawers, is a built-in step stool that can be pulled out to assist with reaching higher shelves. This kitchen went through a remarkable transformation to become highly functional, bright, beautiful and perfect for our client!

This charming Lyon Park house was built in 1925, when the typical kitchen was small, modest and closed-off from the rest of the home. For a family that loves to cook and bake, the cramped, outdated and dysfunctional kitchen was a source of constant frustration. Our new design expanded the kitchen into an adjacent sunroom, opening it up to the rest of the home and creating a spacious, light and updated kitchen that now serves as the heart of the home. We more than doubled the amount of countertop space and added much needed pantry storage as well as a dedicated coffee nook. The bold blue herringbone backsplash, honed black granite, white shaker cabinets and substantial matte black pulls complement the rustic modern style of the adjoining living space.

This was a renovation project that expanded the kitchen by using the space that was an adjacent laundry room. Contemporary kitchen with large 'waterfall island' as the centerpiece to dine, storage beneath and refrigerator/freezer drawers along with microwave drawer. Quartz was used for the island,counter and stove backsplash as a slab.in calacutta pattern, perimeter is also a quartz in a coordinated darker color. stainless steel hood with textured grayish white cabinetry. breakfast area is used mostly as a sitting area to watch TV and be a part of the kitchen but the cocktail table converts to dining height as well as expands for additional dining table space and seating is then becomes a dining banquette.area. Klopf Architecture, Arterra Landscape Architects, and Flegels Construction updated a classic Eichler open, indoor-outdoor home. Expanding on the original walls of glass and connection to nature that is common in mid-century modern homes. The completely openable walls allow the homeowners to truly open up the living space of the house, transforming it into an open air pavilion, extending the living area outdoors to the private side yards, and taking maximum advantage of indoor-outdoor living opportunities. Taking the concept of borrowed landscape from traditional Japanese architecture, the fountain, concrete bench wall, and natural landscaping bound the indoor-outdoor space. The Truly Open Eichler is a remodeled single-family house in Palo Alto. This 1,712 square foot, 3 bedroom, 2.5 bathroom is located in the heart of the Silicon Valley. Weil Friedman designed this small kitchen for a townhouse in the Carnegie Hill Historic District in New York City. A cozy window seat framed by bookshelves allows for expanded light and views. The entry is framed by a tall pantry on one side and a refrigerator on the other. The Lacanche stove and custom range hood sit between custom cabinets in Farrow and Ball Calamine with soapstone counters and aged brass hardware.
