Built in 1979, this home in Pittsburgh’s Bradford Woods borough snuck in at the very tail end of Mid-Century Modern architecture. As lovers of that era, you can imagine our excitement when our clients explained their vision to lean in to that style with their planned kitchen renovation. We collaborated to design a beautiful and functional space that not only better suits this young family’s lifestyle, but truly feels like it has always been a part of the home.
Starting with the layout, we opened the kitchen up to neighboring dining room and eat-in spaces, allowing for a more cohesive main level floorplan. Along with some slight reconfiguring of the refrigerator and pantry locations, a new island created an opportunity for the main kitchen workspace to stay connected for both entertaining and day-to-day activities. Custom open shelving anchors the end of the island without blocking sightlines from the front of the home into the kitchen.
New light oak flooring throughout adds a contemporary nod, integrating two adjoining family rooms. It also creates a nice contrast for the kitchen and dining room’s custom cabinetry in a rich walnut finish. Slab style doors with minimal brass hardware help deliver the streamlined Mid-Century aesthetic. Custom radial edges at the island and coffee bar add a whimsical flair, highlighting the matte green solid surface countertops. To coordinate with the original tile found in the entryway, a neutral choice with rustic handmade detail adds warmth and texture to the backsplash and island base.
Rounding out the rest of this sunny space, Mid-Mod inspired light fixtures, bold patterned wallpaper, a mix of the client’s new and vintage furniture, plus curated textiles and accessories lend the “just right” amount of personality.

Bathroom in Ironwood Drive | Warm Modern Home in Scottsdale, AZ |
Room Type: Whole Home Remodel and Furnishings |
Project Name: Ironwood Drive Residence |
Key Feature: A Tuscan home transformed into a warm modern interior through a full remodel and furnishings, highlighted by a custom hand-painted terracotta tile backsplash, custom cabinetry, and a new fireplace clad in basalt black stone that anchors the living space with drama and elegance.
Challenge: Tuscan homes in Scottsdale are everywhere, and the design language that defined them, heavy wood, ornate details, dark iron, and rustic stone, does not transition gracefully on its own. The goal was to shed that Old World weight and move the home into something warmer and more current without losing the character that makes a remodeled home feel intentional rather than generic.
Solution: Living with Lolo led the full remodel and furnishings as a single integrated project, which meant every decision from the custom cabinetry to the final throw pillow was made in service of the same design vision. The hand-painted terracotta tile backsplash brought artisan character into the kitchen in a way that felt fresh rather than Tuscan, and the basalt black stone fireplace gave the living space a bold focal point that reads as distinctly modern. Because Lauren holds both an interior design credential and an active Arizona ROC general contractor license, the construction and design were managed under one roof with no gap between the two.
Materials: Custom hand-painted terracotta tile backsplash, custom cabinetry, basalt black stone fireplace, curated warm modern furnishings and textiles sourced through Living with Lolo's trade relationships.
Budget: $250,000 to $550,000 |
Timeline: Approximately 5 to 9 months from design through completion.

Guadalajara, San Clemente Coastal Modern Remodel
This major remodel and addition set out to take full advantage of the incredible view and create a clear connection to both the front and rear yards. The clients really wanted a pool and a home that they could enjoy with their kids and take full advantage of the beautiful climate that Southern California has to offer. The existing front yard was completely given to the street, so privatizing the front yard with new landscaping and a low wall created an opportunity to connect the home to a private front yard. Upon entering the home a large staircase blocked the view through to the ocean so removing that space blocker opened up the view and created a large great room.
Indoor outdoor living was achieved through the usage of large sliding doors which allow that seamless connection to the patio space that overlooks a new pool and view to the ocean. A large garden is rare so a new pool and bocce ball court were integrated to encourage the outdoor active lifestyle that the clients love.
The clients love to travel and wanted display shelving and wall space to display the art they had collected all around the world. A natural material palette gives a warmth and texture to the modern design that creates a feeling that the home is lived in. Though a subtle change from the street, upon entering the front door the home opens up through the layers of space to a new lease on life with this remodel.

Master Suite /Dance Studio Addition Exterior
With home prices rising and residential lots getting smaller, this Encinitas couple decided to stay in place and add on to their beloved home and neighborhood. Retired, but very active, they planned for the golden years while having fun along the way. This Master Suite now fosters their passion for dancing as a studio for practice and dance parties. With every detail meticulously designed and perfected, their new indoor/outdoor space is the highlight of their home.
"We found Kerry at TaylorPro early on in our decision process. He was the only contractor to give us a detailed budgetary bid for are original vision of our addition. This level of detail was ultimately the decision factor for us to go with TaylorPro. Throughout the design process the communication was thorough, we knew exactly what was happening and didn’t feel like we were in the dark. Construction was well run and their attention to detail was a predominate character of Kerry and his team. Dancing is such a large part of our life and our new space is the loved by all that visit."

When you see the before photos of this kitchen, the finished product is nearly unrecognizable! This is because the original kitchen was 10x10, and wall separated the kitchen area from the eating area. Opening up the 2 spaces was exactly what this new kitchen needed!
Since the dining area was directly adjacent to the family room, the designer at Advance Design created a low wall of matching decorative book case cabinets with a granite top to create separation needed between the spaces. This bank also eloquently held a beautifully wood appointed supporting column necessary for the structural ceiling load.
The focal point of the new kitchen is the hand-painted backsplash centered under a wooden hood in the chef’s special cooking area. A completely functional island now has space for several stools, and even has a decorative touch with the shelving unit facing the eating area.
The space next to the refrigerator became an efficiently organized bill paying area for the lady of the house, complete with pull out file drawers hidden behind matching kitchen cabinets. Replacing the “black hole” of a pantry; pull out shelves grace the interior of new pantry units suitable for the family of five busy people.
Existing hardwood oak was repaired and refinished on the entire first floor. A light patterned gold granite works effortlessly with the tumbled marble backsplash that enjoys hints of weathered iron looking details that coordinate nicely with the cabinetry hardware.
What makes this kitchen special is how elegant it appears despite the rustic feel of the knotty alder cabinetry. Clean design lines lend an air of sophistication to the otherwise “rustic” looking materials. Now this active family can enjoy the open space, cooking and hanging out together is now an enjoyable pastime.

A unique combination of stone, siding and window adds plenty of charm to this Craftsman-inspired design. Pillars at the front door invite guests inside, where a spacious floor plan makes them feel at home. At the center of the plan is the large family kitchen, which includes a convenient island with built-in table and a private hearth room. The foyer leads to the spacious living room which features a fireplace. At night, enjoy your private master suite, which boasts a serene sitting room, a roomy bath and a personal patio. Upstairs are three additional bedrooms and baths and a loft, while the lower level contains a famly room, office, guest bedroom and handy kids activity area.

After: We reimagined the space with frameless beveled shaker cabinetry in ‘Pearl Bliss’, paired with a stunning engineered quartz countertop in a Pearl Jasmine finish. The new kitchen island, painted in rich ‘Hale Navy’, adds contrast and style, while under-cabinet LED lighting enhances brightness. The relocation of the refrigerator opened up more wall space for additional upper cabinetry, greatly improving functionality. Modern matte black fixtures, a touch-activated pull-down faucet, and sleek pendant lighting complete the transformation, making the space feel brighter, more open, and endlessly inviting.

This Historical Home was built in the Columbia Country Club in 1925 and was ready for a new, modern kitchen which kept the traditional feel of the home. A previous sunroom addition created a dining room, but the original kitchen layout kept the two rooms divided. The kitchen was a small and cramped c-shape with a narrow door leading into the dining area.
The kitchen and dining room were completely opened up, creating a long, galley style, open layout which maximized the space and created a very good flow. Dimensions In Wood worked in conjuction with the client’s architect and contractor to complete this renovation.
Custom cabinets were built to use every square inch of the floorplan, with the cabinets extending all the way to the ceiling for the most storage possible. Our woodworkers even created a step stool, staining it to match the kitchen for reaching these high cabinets. The family already had a kitchen table and chairs they were happy with, so we refurbished them to match the kitchen’s new stain and paint color.
Crown molding top the cabinet boxes and extends across the ceiling where they create a coffered ceiling, highlighting the beautiful light fixtures centered on a wood medallion.
Columns were custom built to provide separation between the different sections of the kitchen, while also providing structural support.
Our master craftsmen kept the original 1925 glass cabinet doors, fitted them with modern hardware, repainted and incorporated them into new cabinet boxes. TASK LED Lighting was added to this china cabinet, highlighting the family’s decorative dishes.
Appliance Garage
On one side of the kitchen we built an appliance garage with doors that slide back into the cabinet, integrated power outlets and door activated lighting. Beside this is a small Galley Workstation for beverage and bar service which has the Galley Bar Kit perfect for sliced limes and more.
Baking Cabinet with Pocket Doors
On the opposite side, a baking cabinet was built to house a mixer and all the supplies needed for creating confections. Automatic LED lights, triggered by opening the door, create a perfect baker’s workstation. Both pocket doors slide back inside the cabinet for maximum workspace, then close to hide everything, leaving a clean, minimal kitchen devoid of clutter.
Super deep, custom drawers feature custom dividers beneath the baking cabinet. Then beneath the appliance garage another deep drawer has custom crafted produce boxes per the customer’s request.
Central to the kitchen is a walnut accent island with a granite countertop and a Stainless Steel Galley Workstation and an overhang for seating. Matching bar stools slide out of the way, under the overhang, when not in use. A color matched outlet cover hides power for the island whenever appliances are needed during preparation.
The Galley Workstation has several useful attachments like a cutting board, drying rack, colander holder, and more. Integrated into the stone countertops are a drinking water spigot, a soap dispenser, garbage disposal button and the pull out, sprayer integrated faucet.
Directly across from the conveniently positioned stainless steel sink is a Bertazzoni Italia stove with 5 burner cooktop. A custom mosaic tile backsplash makes a beautiful focal point. Then, on opposite sides of the stove, columns conceal Rev-a-Shelf pull out towers which are great for storing small items, spices, and more. All outlets on the stone covered walls also sport dual USB outlets for charging mobile devices.
Stainless Steel Whirlpool appliances throughout keep a consistent and clean look. The oven has a matching microwave above it which also works as a convection oven. Dual Whirlpool dishwashers can handle all the family’s dirty dishes.
The flooring has black, marble tile inlays surrounded by ceramic tile, which are period correct for the age of this home, while still being modern, durable and easy to clean.
Finally, just off the kitchen we also remodeled their bar and snack alcove. A small liquor cabinet, with a refrigerator and wine fridge sits opposite a snack bar and wine glass cabinets. Crown molding, granite countertops and cabinets were all customized to match this space with the rest of the stunning kitchen.

The space is elevated with sleek Brizo Odin widespread matte black faucets and matching accessories, offering both elegance and durability. Framed by dual RH black oval mirrors and Visual Comfort Studio sconces, the vanity wall feels clean, curated, and high-end. Inside the frameless walk-in shower, large-format honed Carrara marble tile wraps the walls, accented by dual shampoo niches with mosaic inlay. The overhead Grohe Rainshower SmartActive 310 and matte black handheld kit provide a luxury shower experience that balances form and function.

This rectangular, sun-drenched pool area is flawlessly integrated into the vast, open landscape, offering a feeling of luxurious escape. The design features a clean-lined pool with an elegant water feature that adds a gentle, soothing ambiance. An adjacent raised, square spa, clad in warm-toned natural stone, provides the ultimate spot for year-round indulgence and relaxation.
The expansive, light-colored decking defines the outdoor living space, thoughtfully sectioning areas for activity. Central to the lounge area is a square fire pit, also finished in coordinating stone, perfect for evening gatherings. Comfort is paramount, with elegant, suspended cantilever umbrellas providing shade for the tanning loungers, while a row of classic wooden rocking chairs lines the perimeter, offering a picturesque spot to take in the unobstructed views of the surrounding countryside. This design beautifully balances modern amenities with the tranquility of a rustic setting.

Light cabinets, maintenance free Cambria counter tops, a bright overall feel, and to create cohesiveness within these two significant areas of their home was the criteria of this active retired couple.

This two-toned kitchen was designed by Paula Greer, CKD of Bilotta Kitchens with Robin Zahn of Robin Prince Zahn Architecture. The u-shaped space has perimeter cabinets in Bilotta’s own line, the Bilotta Collection in a custom gray paint. The island is Wood-Mode Cabinetry in cherry with a stain. Countertops are Caesarstone’s London Grey with a built-in walnut cutting board on one corner of the island from Brooks Custom. The custom Madison Hood by Rangecraft is in a Dark Antique Steel finish and extends up accentuating the high ceiling above the cooking triangle. Two of the most interesting elements of this space are the banquette area and the coffered ceilings. By far, the most frequent installation of banquettes is tucking them into a corner of the room, regardless of how much seating is available at the island. In this kitchen, the island provides enough space for four to five stools. But because the space is separated from the rest of the house, the client wanted to ensure there was sufficient seating for their frequent entertaining. Also, the house is situated in a secluded wooded area; the new kitchen includes an abundance of unobstructed windows to fully experience the beautiful outdoor surroundings. The corner banquette (under more windows!) makes it feel like you’re dining in the trees. The bonus feature is that there’s extra storage below for table linens or seldom-used serving pieces. This really functions like a couch, complete with throw pillows and a TV, where the empty-nesters love spending time even when it isn’t mealtime. As for the ceiling, coffers don’t necessarily have to be large and intricately detailed with layers of moldings in order to be effective. This kitchen features two different ceiling heights: a small section of an addition contains a vaulted ceiling, while the larger island and eating area are tucked under a 2nd floor balcony and bedrooms. The client wanted to distinguish the lower area from the vaulted section, but in a subtle manner. The architect chose to implement shallow coffers with minimal trim for a softer result. The geometric pattern also reflects the floor tile and other lines within the room. The most interesting aspect, though, is that the vaulted area is actually concealed from view when you’re standing in the breakfast area; but as you approach the sink and window, the ceiling explodes above you for a visual surprise. And lastly, of course during this time of “work from home” the desk tucked in a nook opposite the banquette creates the perfect space for Zoom meetings, email checking and just the day-to-day activities we used to go into the office to do. The kitchen is an all-around perfect space for cooking, entertaining, relaxing or working!

With a new baby on the way, this new young couple bought a fixer upper in Castro Valley. The couple really envisioned a peaceful, open, modern oasis that withstands the rigors of an active new child, along with a dog and cats. Every surface of this house was touched. Everything old was replaced with new surfaces and finishes. We created a focal point with function by using a dramatic wall color and wall of shelving. Using a soothing color palette that calls to mind the natural surroundings we achieved the tranquil vibe they were looking for. Yoko used clean multifunctional furniture to create zones and provide welcoming spaces for family and friends, while the warm light wood floors that expand throughout the home make it still feel cohesive. We can’t wait for this new family to make many memories in this beautiful space.
