This terraced landscape in Vermont flows from a high perch on a contemporary home’s second-story viewing deck through a grassy play space with a fire pit terrace, past mown fields to a swimming pond with a small lake house and on through a wet meadow to a beaver pond beyond. Here behind the house, four Adirondack chairs are gathered around a fire pit terrace of Goshen stone. Low shrubs and colorful perennials hug the top of a retaining wall that drops off toward a view of the pond. This Client in Newton, Massachusetts needed more space for entertainment as well as provide their children with a hard and dry surface to play. David Hancox of Landscape Oasis used the otherwise "dead space" under the deck by lowering the grade using a field stone retaining wall and installing this blue stone patio.

Working in conjunction with the architect handling the house remodel, this Los Altos yard turned into an entertainment mecca for the entire family. Year round use of the covered patio ties together with the outdoor dining area. The kitchen window has a view of the play structure which was placed on artificial turf for smooth transitions to other games and toys for the boys. To handle the grade, we created a retaining wall which doubles as a seat wall for large crowds. Unfortunately, we had to remove a large ailing tree but were able to replace the tree with a 60" box tree for instant shade against hot afternoon heat. For chilly nights, we added infrared heaters in both pergolas. We used Connecticut bluestone for the patio and tied it in with grey concrete in less visible areas of the yard, In the front yard, we created a welcoming walkway, which signs with the style of the house. By adding steps with lighting in the risers, the house is elevated from the street.

This master bathroom renovation transforms a builder-grade standard into a personalized retreat for our lovely Stapleton clients. Recognizing a need for change, our clients called on us to help develop a space that would capture their aesthetic loves and foster relaxation. Our design focused on establishing an airy and grounded feel by pairing various shades of white, natural wood, and dynamic textures. We replaced the existing ceramic floor tile with wood-look porcelain tile for a warm and inviting look throughout the space. We then paired this with a reclaimed apothecary vanity from Restoration Hardware. This vanity is coupled with a bright Caesarstone countertop and warm bronze faucets from Delta to create a strikingly handsome balance. The vanity mirrors are custom-sized and trimmed with a coordinating bronze frame. Elegant wall sconces dance between the dark vanity mirrors and bright white full height mirrors flanking the bathtub. The tub itself is an oversized freestanding bathtub paired with a tall bronze tub filler. We've created a feature wall with Tile Bar's Billowy Clouds ceramic tile floor to ceiling behind the tub. The wave-like movement of the tiles offers a dramatic texture in a pure white field. We removed the existing shower and extended its depth to create a large new shower. The walls are tiled with a large format high gloss white tile. The shower floor is tiled with marble circles in varying sizes that offer a playful aesthetic in an otherwise minimalist space. We love this pure, airy retreat and are thrilled that our clients get to enjoy it for many years to come!

This modern farmhouse bathroom has an extra large vanity with double sinks to make use of a longer rectangular bathroom. The wall behind the vanity has counter to ceiling Jeffrey Court white subway tiles that tie into the shower. There is a playful mix of metals throughout including the black framed round mirrors from CB2, brass & black sconces with glass globes from Shades of Light , and gold wall-mounted faucets from Phylrich. The countertop is quartz with some gold veining to pull the selections together. The charcoal navy custom vanity has ample storage including a pull-out laundry basket while providing contrast to the quartz countertop and brass hexagon cabinet hardware from CB2. This bathroom has a glass enclosed tub/shower that is tiled to the ceiling. White subway tiles are used on two sides with an accent deco tile wall with larger textured field tiles in a chevron pattern on the back wall. The niche incorporates penny rounds on the back using the same countertop quartz for the shelves with a black Schluter edge detail that pops against the deco tile wall. Photography by LifeCreated.

Design ideas for a mid-sized side yard landscaping in San Francisco.

ForeverLawn of Puget Sound has been involved in several projects with the city of Seattle as part of the Yesler renovation project. So when it came time to transform this hillside playground, the heads of the project turned to ForeverLawn® artificial grass. They were looking for a superior surfacing solution that would work with the elevation of the space and look great all year long. The angles and elevation of the playground made this installation a bit of a challenge, but our expert team was able to pull it off. Plus, the elevation gives park-goers a beautiful view of the city, and kids are loving the hills covered in artificial grass that they can roll and play on. Using a total of 10,000 square feet of Playground Grass™ Ultra, the team created a soccer field, hillside playground, and an additional landing area playground.

Despite its diamond-mullioned exterior, this stately home’s interior takes a more light-hearted approach to design. The Dove White inset cabinetry is classic, with recessed panel doors, a deep bevel inside profile and a matching hood. Streamlined brass cup pulls and knobs are timeless. Departing from the ubiquitous crown molding is a square top trim. The layout supplies plenty of function: a paneled refrigerator; prep sink on the island; built-in microwave and second oven; built-in coffee maker; and a paneled wine refrigerator. Contrast is provided by the countertops and backsplash: honed black Jet Mist granite on the perimeter and a statement-making island top of exuberantly-patterned Arabescato Corchia Italian marble. Flooring pays homage to terrazzo floors popular in the 70’s: “Geotzzo” tiles of inlaid gray and Bianco Dolomite marble. Field tiles in the breakfast area and cooking zone perimeter are a mix of small chips; feature tiles under the island have modern rectangular Bianco Dolomite shapes. Enameled metal pendants and maple stools and dining chairs add a mid-century Scandinavian touch. The turquoise on the table base is a delightful surprise. An adjacent pantry has tall storage, cozy window seats, a playful petal table, colorful upholstered ottomans and a whimsical “balloon animal” stool. This kitchen was done in collaboration with Daniel Heighes Wismer and Greg Dufner of Dufner Heighes and Sarah Witkin of Bilotta Architecture.
