jeri houseworth photography just completed a complete remodel of my 1930 farmhouse kitchen using all of the elements i love...old barnwood island top, hood trim and shelves, white shaker cabinets, chalk painted server which covers an off center radiator, a brick herb wall which ties into the brick fireplace in the family room off the new kitchen and allows us to have fresh herbs at our fingertips, as well as the white shiplap walls, professional appliances ...it turned out just as i had hoped...airy, bright, open but not an open concept which i feel is inappropriate in an older home, cozy, warm and extremely functional...oh and oh so pretty!

A bachelor in the city needs a great closet. Meshberg Group outfitted this masculine walk in closet in bleached white rift oak built-in custom cabinetry and milled steel flat bar hardware. With a pocket door leading to the master bath, everything our bachelor client needed to get ready for a night out on the town or a day at the office was at his fingertips.

This beautiful and tranquil kitchen was enlarged without adding square footage to the room. By relocating the kitchen table closer to the wall and adding a banquette for seating, we were able to gain 18" of cabinet space which allowed for the wall oven and rotation of the island with seating for 3. The island also contains a wine cooler and extra storage for things every cook needs. Double paneled doors on the cabinets with seeded glass inserts break up the row of cabinets without loosing the symmetrical balance of the design. Drawer space abounds and each cabinet is outfitted with custom interior accessories. A pull out pantry located next to the Sub Zero refrigerator keeps everyday food at the cooks fingertips. A custom wood hood with a large ventilation system tops a 36" professional style range. We used the same fabric on the window treatment over the sink as on the chair cushions. This Lakeville, MA home is now maintenance free and ready for New England weather with vinyl siding & replacement windows! Our crew started by stripping off the old siding and replacing all rotted wood. The entire house was then wrapped with Typar and 19 Harvey Classic replacement windows were installed. Mastic Carvedwood 44 vinyl siding in Granite Gray was installed on the whole home along with 17 Harvey Classic replacement windows and 2 picture windows. Aluminum trim was installed on all windows, doors, soffit, and fascia as well as white corner posts, and all new gutters and downspouts. The homeowner eliminated the need to paint every 3-4 years with Mastic’s Carvedwood 44 vinyl siding. Manufactured to look like a natural, painted cedar clapboard, this vinyl siding is both durable, fade-resistant and maintenance free! The windows throughout the home were replaced with Harvey Classic vinyl replacement windows (We’re also a Harvey Elite Series Window Dealer!). The homeowner chose the 8 over 8 grid pattern. Each window is energy star rated and filled with low E argon gas to reduce cooling and heating costs. The Harvey Classic also features easy fingertip operation and tilt-in sashes for easy cleaning.

This medium sized bathroom had ample space to create a luxurious bathroom for this young professional couple with 3 young children. My clients really wanted a place to unplug and relax where they could retreat and recharge. New cabinets were a must with customized interiors to reduce cluttered counter tops and make morning routines easier and more organized. We selected Hale Navy for the painted finish with an upscale recessed panel door. Honey bronze hardware is a nice contrast to the navy paint instead of an expected brushed silver. For storage, a grooming center to organize hair dryer, curling iron and brushes keeps everything in place for morning routines. On the opposite, a pull-out organizer outfitted with trays for smaller personal items keeps everything at the fingertips. I included a pull-out hamper to keep laundry and towels off the floor. Another design detail I like to include is drawers in the sink cabinets. It is much better to have drawers notched for the plumbing when organizing bathroom products instead of filling up a large base cabinet. The room already had beautiful windows and was bathed in naturel light from an existing skylight. I enhanced the natural lighting with some recessed can lights, a light in the shower as well as sconces around the mirrored medicine cabinets. The best thing about the medicine cabinets is not only the additional storage but when both doors are opened you can see the back of your head. The inside of the cabinet doors are mirrored. Honey Bronze sconces are perfect lighting at the vanity for makeup and shaving. A larger shower for my very tall client with a built-in bench was a priority for this bathroom. I recommend stream showers whenever designing a bathroom and my client loved the idea of that feature as a surprise for his wife. Steam adds to the wellness and health aspect of any good bathroom design. We were able to access a small closet space just behind the shower a perfect spot for the steam unit. In addition to the steam, a handheld shower is another “standard” item in our shower designs. I like to locate these near a bench so you can sit while you target sore shoulder and back muscles. Another benefit is cleanability of the shower walls and being able to take a quick shower without getting your hair wet. The slide bar is just the thing to accommodate different heights. For Mrs. a tub for soaking and relaxing were the main ingredients required for this remodel. Here I specified a Bain Ultra freestanding tub complete with air massage, chromatherapy and a heated back rest. The tub filer is floor mounted and adds another element of elegance to the bath. I located the tub in a bay window so the bather can enjoy the beautiful view out of the window. It is also a great way to relax after a round of golf. Either way, both of my clients can enjoy the benefits of this tub. The tiles selected for the shower and the lower walls of the bathroom are a slightly oversized subway tile in a clean and bright white. The floors are a 12x24 porcelain marble. The shower floor features a flat cut marble pebble tile. Behind the vanity the wall is tiled with Zellage tile in a herringbone pattern. The colors of the tile connect all the colors used in the bath. The final touches of elegance and luxury to complete our design, the soft lilac paint on the walls, the mix of metal materials on the faucets, cabinet hardware, lighting and yes, an oversized heated towel warmer complete with robe hooks. This truly is a space for rejuvenation and wellness.

Intentional. Elevated. Artisanal. With three children under the age of 5, our clients were starting to feel the confines of their Pacific Heights home when the expansive 1902 Italianate across the street went on the market. After learning the home had been recently remodeled, they jumped at the chance to purchase a move-in ready property. We worked with them to infuse the already refined, elegant living areas with subtle edginess and handcrafted details, and also helped them reimagine unused space to delight their little ones. Elevated furnishings on the main floor complement the home’s existing high ceilings, modern brass bannisters and extensive walnut cabinetry. In the living room, sumptuous emerald upholstery on a velvet side chair balances the deep wood tones of the existing baby grand. Minimally and intentionally accessorized, the room feels formal but still retains a sharp edge—on the walls moody portraiture gets irreverent with a bold paint stroke, and on the the etagere, jagged crystals and metallic sculpture feel rugged and unapologetic. Throughout the main floor handcrafted, textured notes are everywhere—a nubby jute rug underlies inviting sofas in the family room and a half-moon mirror in the living room mixes geometric lines with flax-colored fringe. On the home’s lower level, we repurposed an unused wine cellar into a well-stocked craft room, with a custom chalkboard, art-display area and thoughtful storage. In the adjoining space, we installed a custom climbing wall and filled the balance of the room with low sofas, plush area rugs, poufs and storage baskets, creating the perfect space for active play or a quiet reading session. The bold colors and playful attitudes apparent in these spaces are echoed upstairs in each of the children’s imaginative bedrooms. After living in this home for a decade, Crystal Lake residents Ken & Bonnie needed an update to their tired original kitchen to meet the needs of their busy family. Together with the expertise of designer Scott Christensen at Advance Design Studio they planned to completely reconfigure the entire space. They began by removing the restrictive peninsula and replaced it with a generous island designed to house an expansive farmhouse sink, convenient pull out trash receptacles, and a hidden dishwasher. Now there was ample room to add island seating to accommodate family gatherings, or for just “hanging out” with teenagers. A dramatic new focal point was created with the design of an elegant range area featuring a beautiful custom wood mantle hood detailed with crushed glass handmade tile. Hidden storage houses every spice imaginable right at the cook’s fingertips. Double-stacked glass cabinetry emphasizes the impressive height of the room that was a wonderful architectural element that previously went unnoticed in the original kitchen. The entire kitchen and breakfast nook was opened up to the 2 story family room by integrating enlarged arched openings. An outdated desk area was transformed into a beautiful breakfront bar with beverage refrigeration, glass display cabinets and plenty of new storage for entertainment pieces. An espresso nook was tucked neatly between tall cabinetry, and an old fashioned closet with shelves was converted into an efficient chef’s dream of organized custom pull out pantries. “I am the leader of the Scott Christensen fan club,” says Bonnie. “With my busy family and a full time career, Scott made the process of designing this space so easy for me. He didn’t overwhelm me, but carefully determined what I liked and offered me two thoughtful solutions for just about everything - complete with his expert opinion that I really respected.” Bright white Jay Rambo custom made maple cabinets are accented by Cambria quartz counter tops and simple subway tiles. Original hardwood floors were refinished and stained a darker shade, and stair risers and balusters were painted white to coordinate with the smart wainscot details throughout the first floor. The end effect is a cohesive first floor that flows together with grace and a level of elegance perfectly suitable for this stately Crystal Lake home.
