Feature of note: We appreciate functional space, and that's exactly what the kitchen designers did here. What would normally be a fake front under the cooktop was ingeniously turned into a handy spice rack, making additional flavor less than an arm's length away.

This vintage style bathroom was inspired by it's 1930's art deco roots. The goal was to recreate a space that felt like it was original. With lighting from Rejuvenation, tile from B&W tile and Kohler fixtures, this is a small bathroom that packs a design punch. Door style: Pendleton RSP | Species: Rustic Hickory | Finish: Amber with Ebony glaze
The spirit of the great outdoors is expressed perfectly in this rustic hickory creation. The understated Pendleton door style has a historic flavor, while the subtle accent of a sleek Charcoal molding treatment adds an up-to-date touch. The flowing, free-form layout is both functional and inviting. The large, two-level peninsula offers prep and eating spaces, and also creates a boundary with the adjacent great room. Note how the beaded panel and Charcoal corbels add texture and contrast to the peninsula, and look great with the peeled-log stools. Granite-like laminate counter tops and a tile backsplash contribute to a subtle and warm palette of textures and colors, right down to the rustic hickory hardwood floor.

Door style: Horizon | Species: Red Oak SG | Finish: Coffee
Island: Red Oak Driftwood
Slab door styles are most often associated with modernist or contemporary settings. But this homeowner had a distinct vision for an eclectic theme that combines sleek with comfortable. The historic flavor of the pulls and handles is an example of this "shabby chic" melding of genres. Note also that base cabinets do not follow the more-common mode of upper drawers, with lower doors. The designer opted for either all-doors, or all-drawers on base cabinets, adding still more individuality to the room.

Living room - rustic dark wood floor living room idea in Seattle with white walls, a two-sided fireplace and a stone fireplace

Vigilant Floral in Delft strikes the right refined yet playful note in this artistic Dallas townhouse designed by Alice Cottrell. Photography by: Stephen Karlisch.
At first glance a traditional floral, but upon deeper investigation you realize you’re not alone. You’re being watched. A fantastic take on today’s big brother culture, Dan Funderburgh uses security cameras to reveal how we have become impervious enough to the presence of cameras that we don’t even notice them immediately when in such a contradictory scenario such as this floral wallpaper. Birds and butterflies on razor is another less than subtle comment on humans entrap themselves and nature on a daily basis. Yet the serious nature of the commentary loses out to the overall humor behind the way the elements have been combined and that is exactly why Vigilant Floral is destined to become a classic. This handscreened pattern is available in four colorways with customization offered.

The new owners opted to replace the aging, historically inappropriate vinyl siding on this Wicker Park single family home with double-dipped McNear “Limehouse" thin brick. Believe it or not, there's a red brick under those two coats of limewash!
Initially, these easy-going homeowners sought out a pure white brick, but ended up using this rustic alternative instead. Notes of the red brick subtly peek through the lime, giving the residence an old world flavor. These bricks were attached using Glen Gery ThinTech panels, and will be sealed soon to protect the wash and allow for easy maintenance. Contrary to popular belief, siding is actually more expensive to take care of over time than masonry!
A special shoutout goes to woman-owned business D. Jones Construction, whose interest in learning all about this unique product before install was welcomed and appreciated!

This early 20th century Poppleton Park home was originally 2548 sq ft. with a small kitchen, nook, powder room and dining room on the first floor. The second floor included a single full bath and 3 bedrooms. The client expressed a need for about 1500 additional square feet added to the basement, first floor and second floor. In order to create a fluid addition that seamlessly attached to this home, we tore down the original one car garage, nook and powder room. The addition was added off the northern portion of the home, which allowed for a side entry garage. Plus, a small addition on the Eastern portion of the home enlarged the kitchen, nook and added an exterior covered porch.
Special features of the interior first floor include a beautiful new custom kitchen with island seating, stone countertops, commercial appliances, large nook/gathering with French doors to the covered porch, mud and powder room off of the new four car garage. Most of the 2nd floor was allocated to the master suite. This beautiful new area has views of the park and includes a luxurious master bath with free standing tub and walk-in shower, along with a 2nd floor custom laundry room!
Attention to detail on the exterior was essential to keeping the charm and character of the home. The brick façade from the front view was mimicked along the garage elevation. A small copper cap above the garage doors and 6” half-round copper gutters finish the look.

Three generous benchtops deliver ample useable space. The custom-laminated bamboo tops provides warmth and a distinctive grain, while the triple-panel rhythm and furniture-style island and dresser add a subtle French flavour.
